Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 210: Chapter 207: The Repaired Water Jar Chapter 210: Chapter 207: The Repaired Water Jar “`

Huang Chengyi was at home, so when Gu Xu entered the house, they naturally bumped into each other and chatted for a while, both of them feeling quite surprised in their hearts.

What surprised Huang Chengyi, of course, was the fact that Gu Xu knew Huo Sining.

After Gu Xu arrived at the house, he behaved as if he were right at home, and Huo Sining didn’t find it odd but seemed to treat it as normal.

This gave Huang Chengyi a deeper understanding of his niece’s granddaughter.

Huang Chengyi was very clear about the Gu Family’s status in the Imperial Capital; although he had never met Gu Xu in person, the younger son of the Gu Family’s fame had spread throughout the Imperial Capital seven or eight years ago, and Huang Chengyi had certainly heard of him.

Huang Chengyi didn’t look down on Huo Sining, but given the actual situation, it seemed unlikely that Huo Sining, an orphan girl newly arrived in S City from Rongcheng, would have access to the connections of the Gu Family in the Imperial Capital.

Yet to his surprise, his grand-niece actually had the ability to build a connection with the youngest son of the Gu Family.

Huang Chengyi felt unexpectedly impressed with Huo Sining and held her in higher esteem.

Previously, he had thought that whether or not Huo Sining would be recognized by the Huang Family Ancestral Hall, he couldn’t let the Liang Family discover her existence.

Now that he knew Huo Sining was acquainted with Gu Xu, his worries suddenly lessened considerably.

He thought that with the backing of the youngest Gu son, even if Si Ning was without parents, the Liang Family wouldn’t dare bully her.

Of course, Gu Xu’s surprise wasn’t as complex as Huang Chengyi’s; he was merely astonished by Huang Chengyi’s leg.

Gu Xu had been aware of the arrival of the two heads of the Huang Family in S City. After learning about the intricate blood ties between Huo Sining and the Huang Family from Wu Jun, Gu Xu had thoroughly investigated the Huang Family, and Huang Chengyi’s leg condition was also documented in the files on Gu Xu’s desk.

Hence, Gu Xu knew about Huang Chengyi’s leg affliction, which had been deemed incurable by many medical experts from both China and abroad. Yet, in just under two months, it had recovered to this extent!

After the treatment over this period, the sensation in Huang Chengyi’s leg had revived by thirty to forty percent, the atrophied muscles were gradually regrowing, and the severed neurons in his lower limbs had been completely repaired by Huo Sining using Spiritual Energy. As long as he continued to nourish it slowly with Spiritual Energy, standing up and walking again was not a problem at all.

This was after considering the half-month delay when Huo Sining went to Pingzhou for stone gambling; otherwise, Huang Chengyi might have already been able to stand up by now.

Nevertheless, Huo Sining was indeed deliberately slowing down the healing process. Curing the old gentleman’s decades-old chronic illnesses in an unusually short time was already somewhat beyond scientific logic. If he were to recover in just a month or two, it would be too conspicuous.

Huo Sining didn’t want to be too sensational or to attract attention, so it was better to keep a low profile.

Even so, such a rapid recovery ability was already astonishing; at least Gu Xu found it somewhat incredible.

However, this thought merely flashed through his mind and passed. Remembering the speed at which Huo Sining had removed bullets and treated gunshot wounds on that rainy night, Gu Xu felt a sense of relief.

Of course, Gu Xu was a man of delicate thoughts, and obviously, he considered much more than people like Huang Chengyi.

Having been in the army for many years, he was well aware of the undercurrents at play; some people, relying on their power and influence, were very arrogant, and they would stop at nothing to achieve their goals.

If Huo Sining’s abilities were known by those above, those people would probably become greedy, and then Huo Sining would be in danger.

Those were merciless types who would kill without blinking an eye and consume without spitting out bones. With Huo Sining’s stubborn nature, she would definitely refuse to be used and might even come to blows with them.

Thinking of this, Gu Xu’s eyes inevitably darkened.

He knew it was okay for him to be aware of Huo Sining’s special abilities, but this matter absolutely couldn’t be known by others. No matter what, he had to protect this girl’s safety!

Huo Sining was unaware of Gu Xu’s worries. At the moment, her mind was completely occupied by those two large jars.

Over there, Wu Jun had just unloaded the porcelain jars into the yard, and she was impatient to fetch a hose. As she was cleaning the interior and exterior walls of the huge jars, removing the dirt and mud, she was also feeling them to figure out what was going on.

Upon touching them, she discovered a problem. The two large jars looked exactly the same; the patterns, material, glaze, and even their markings were identical. They seemed to be mass-produced items. However, one didn’t elicit any response from the Azure Pearl while touching the other made the Azure Pearl flash wildly—an obvious sign there was more to it.

Huo Sining’s eyebrows furrowed involuntarily as she grabbed a brush and hopped inside the jar to scrub off the moss that had grown on the interior walls, all the while examining it closely, trying to find a clue on this problematic vessel.

But to Huo Sining’s disappointment, even after cleaning both jars until they were spotless, she could not find anything wrong with them. As products from the same kiln, no matter how one looked at them, they appeared no different.

“This is really bizarre!” Huo Sining muttered to herself. The Azure Pearl wouldn’t make an error in detection; could she have overlooked some crucial details?

On the other side, Gu Xu noticed Huo Sining’s ongoing scrutiny of one of the jars and suddenly remembered something. He spoke up, “Oh right, I forgot to tell you. The restaurant owner mentioned on the phone that one of these jars had been repaired; it’s at the bottom, but it doesn’t affect its use.”

“Repaired? What do you mean?” Huo Sining did not understand.

Gu Xu was puzzled. “You don’t understand? Do you know what a Porcelain Repair Craftsman is?”

Huo Sining shook her head.

Gu Xu laughed, “You must be too young then and haven’t seen a bowl maker. Back in the day in the Imperial Capital, there were a lot of them walking through the streets carrying their loads, specializing in repairing broken porcelain jars and bowls. Those people were incredibly skillful; if you kept the broken pieces of a chipped or cracked porcelain bowl or jar, they could fix it as good as new. Some crafters with superior skills could even use the patterns and designs to make the repair work seem lively and indistinguishable from the original, leaving no trace of the repair.”

It dawned on Huo Sining; she glanced at the porcelain jar by her feet and realization hit her, “Are you saying this jar has been fixed?”

Gu Xu nodded, “Yes, that’s what the restaurant owner said. He also mentioned that he doesn’t know the specific details. The jar had already been fixed when he took over, probably because the former owner broke the jar and didn’t want to spend more money to buy a new one, so they had someone repair the broken jar. Apparently, it doesn’t leak at all when filled with water.”

Huo Sining nodded, but inwardly she sneered. The owner was playing the rogue; knowing there was something wrong with the jar, why did he wait until she bought it to say so?

However, Huo Sining didn’t plan to fuss about it. As soon as she heard the jar had been repaired, she immediately realized there was an issue.

The two jars were identical, so why did only this one cause a reaction in the Azure Pearl?

Could it be that the problem wasn’t with the jar itself, but with the repaired scar?
