Urban Martial Saint

Zhao Chengshuang and Ye Qing, although not blood brothers, have a bond that surpasses one. As soon as Zhao Chengshuang got out of the car, his first concern was Ye Qing’s condition, fearing that Ye Qing might have been at a disadvantage or injured.

”No worries!” King of Explosives said: ”None of us are hurt, it’s just that Miss Ou, Ke Ren, got bitten by a poisonous snake, and the situation is somewhat complicated.”

”Miss Ou is here too?” Zhao Chengshuang’s eyes widened as he said: ”Good heavens, what are you doing here in the wilderness in the middle of the night with Miss Ou? And you got ambushed, even bitten by a poisonous snake, aren’t you just asking for trouble?”

King of Explosives shrugged his shoulders and said: ”Miss Ou had some matters to take care of, so we came here. Forget about that for now. The Toxic Eel Mercenary Corps left three mercenaries behind, but they are dead. You take their bodies back first. Oh, does bringing back the bodies count as meritorious service?”

”Of course, it does!” Zhao Chengshuang had just remembered this matter and immediately said with excitement: ”Hahaha, we just finished the meeting this afternoon, the provincial department gave the order, we must solve this case. The city bureau also issued a strict order for me to cooperate with the Xiangjiang Police in handling the case. It’s only been a short time, and I’ve already killed three mercenaries, now damn, I’m in the spotlight again!”

King of Explosives glanced sideways at Zhao Chengshuang, who was getting a bit carried away in his excitement.

Feeling King of Explosives’ gaze, Zhao Chengshuang toned it down a bit and said with a sheepish grin: ”Of course, it was mainly thanks to your help. But you know, you wouldn’t get credit for bringing back the bodies, better let me take them back and claim the reward. Buddy, I really owe you one for this time!”

”Don’t thank me, go thank Ye Zi!” said King of Explosives: ”He was the main one who took care of it!”

”Absolutely, definitely!” Zhao Chengshuang chuckled and led his men into the woods, a group of them went directly to clean up the site, gather clues, and handle the corpses. Zhao Chengshuang, with the others, went straight to where Ye Qing was.

Seeing Zhao Chengshuang coming over, Ye Qing let out a sigh of relief and quickly stood up, saying: ”Cheng Shuang, where’s the ambulance?”

”It’s on its way!” Zhao Chengshuang hurriedly said upon seeing Ke Ren at the back: ”Miss Ou, how are you? Are you okay?”

”Much... much better...” Ke Ren’s voice was still weak, but her complexion was visibly more rosy than before.

”Then that’s good, it doesn’t seem too serious!” Zhao Chengshuang said: ”The ambulance is almost here, and it has all kinds of serums onboard, you’ll be fine once you get the serum.”

Ke Ren glanced at Ye Qing, her well-being was due to Ye Qing sucking out all the poison for her. Otherwise, how could she have the strength to sit up now?

Zhao Chengshuang came over, put his arm around Ye Qing’s shoulder, and said: ”Ye Zi, why on earth did you come here in the dead of night? Don’t tell me you were trying to lure out these mercenaries? Hey, that’s not very fair of you. If you wanted to draw them out, you should have given me a heads-up. Had I known about this earlier, I would have brought people here to ambush. If they really dared to show up, we could have taken them all out this time!”

”I reckon you wouldn’t have been able to hold them!” Ye Qing shook his head and said gravely: ”These mercenaries are particularly ruthless and act swiftly with advanced equipment and strong combat capabilities. In this kind of terrain, even if Shenchuan City Police sent one hundred officers, I bet they would be walking into their own demise!”

”Damn it!?” Zhao Chengshuang’s eyes bulged as he said: ”Ye Zi, don’t underestimate me, alright? According to what you said, are the police just a bunch of straw bags? One hundred can’t deal with them? You think they’re all Sylvester Stallone?”

”Ye Zi is right!” King of Explosives said from behind: ”These mercenaries really are powerful, especially in such encounter battles with good coordination, it can be quite terrifying. Moreover, these mercenaries’ abilities have all reached the level of elite Special Forces. A squad of elite Special Forces could infiltrate a military base, let alone your hundred inexperienced police officers!”

Zhao Chengshuang looked at King of Explosives and then at Ye Qing, helplessly saying: ”Nothing we can do, we’re police, not like soldiers who train all the time. Besides, those mercenaries are cold-blooded killers. Which one of us cops has ever killed someone? It’s normal if we can’t match them. But still, we have to solve this case. Ye Zi, King of Explosives, I’m counting on your help!”

”I must take care of these people as well!” Ye Qing said gravely, having these people unresolved posed an ongoing threat to his safety.

”By the way, what was that thing you threw earlier?” Ye Qing suddenly turned to King of Explosives and asked: ”It looked like a flash grenade, but it wasn’t as bright and didn’t last as long. However, it was very effective, allowing one to clearly see the surroundings, very useful indeed.”

”That’s a flash grenade I developed myself; it’s very handy when used in close-quarters encounters,” replied King of Explosives.

”If we could promote this thing in the military, it would really be great!” Ye Qing said.

King of Explosives smiled and replied, ”This thing is just a little gadget I personally use; it’s not much used by the military. The flashbangs and illumination rounds that the real military uses are quite different from mine.”

Ye Qing said, ”However, it would be very convenient to use this in small-scale encounters.”

King of Explosives replied, ”It’s only suitable for those kinds of small-scale encounters.”

Zhao Chengshuang, who was listening by the side, felt completely confused and said, ”What on earth are you two talking about? What flash grenades? Ye Zi, first make it clear, these three bodies are mine to claim!”

Ye Qing curled his lip and said, ”Of course, I’ll hand them over to you. Do you think I would take the bodies back with me?”

”Well, that would be unnecessary, but I can earn merit with them!” Zhao Chengshuang chuckled and looked toward Ou Keren, saying sheepishly, ”Miss Ou, this...”

Ou Keren knew what Zhao Chengshuang was about to say and directly said, ”Don’t worry, I won’t compete with you for the credit. We, the Xiangjiang Police, are mainly here to assist the Mainland police in handling the case. As long as the case is resolved well, it’ll be our merit when we return. As for who solves the case, it doesn’t make much difference to us!”

”That’s great!” Zhao Chengshuang was overjoyed and said, ”Miss Ou, I knew you were an understanding person; working with you is really pleasant. Alright then, let’s agree that the credit for this goes to me!”

”Hurry up and deal with the bodies, no one is competing with you!” Ye Qing curled his lip and said.

”Hehehe...” Zhao Chengshuang laughingly excitedly ran over to clear the site, this guy has really been racking his brains over his promotion recently. With such a huge merit in front of him, he thickened his skin and insisted on grabbing it.

Fortunately, Ye Qing and King of Explosives were on his side, and Ou Keren wasn’t competing with him, so the credit went straight to him. Undoubtedly, even these three corpses alone would give him a huge boost in stature. They had just finished a meeting that afternoon, and already had results in the evening; the municipal bureau would feel honored, and he would have something to report to the provincial level, accelerating Zhao Chengshuang’s promotion even more.

After a while, the ambulance finally arrived. Ye Qing helped Ou Keren onto the ambulance and followed it straight back to the city hospital. En route, the paramedic had already taken some blood for testing to determine what kind of snake venom it was. However, the test results surprised the doctor because Ou Keren’s blood contained no snake venom!

”How is this possible?” Ye Qing couldn’t help but exclaim in surprise as he pointed to Ou Keren’s wound, ”Look at this wound; it’s obviously a bite. Moreover, her complexion earlier definitely looked like she was poisoned, so how can there be no venom?”

The doctor nodded and said, ”Mr. Ye, you’re right. The condition of the patient’s wound does indeed resemble a venomous snakebite. According to the shape of the wound, it’s very likely to be from a Silver Ring Snake. However, it’s strange that there is no trace of venom in the patient’s blood. Furthermore, her blood is bright red and doesn’t resemble someone who has been poisoned. Mr. Ye, did you by any chance use some method to detoxify earlier?”

”Method?” Ye Qing thought for a moment and said rather sheepishly, ”I... I sucked the venom out for her, does that count?”

”Ah?” The doctor widened his eyes at Ye Qing and said, ”You... you sucked the venom out for her? Mr. Ye, do you realize how dangerous that is? When poison mixes with blood, it can poison a person. If you had any bleeding gums or similar issues in your mouth, your blood could mix with the venom. The most dangerous aspect is, being in the mouth and head area, once the venom mixes with blood, it can quickly paralyze the brain and can lead to death in a very short period of time, far more dangerous than being bitten directly by a venomous snake!”

”Is... is that so?” Before Ye Qing could respond, Ou Keren was already unable to sit still, urgently saying, ”Then... then please check Ye immediately, see if Ye is poisoned!”

”If Mr. Ye can sit here clearly awake, then he must be alright.” The doctor sighed and said, ”However, Mr. Ye, I must remind you, never do such a thing again in the future; it’s really dangerous. There have been many cases of people who have died from trying this method. It’s an absolute taboo in medicine!”

Hearing the doctor’s words, Ou Keren finally felt somewhat relieved, but her eyes reddened as she looked at Ye Qing by her side, unable to stop the tears. Although she knew that Ye Qing was taking a risk to save her, she did not expect him to take such a huge risk, which left her touched and frightened. Of course, what she felt even more was warmth, given that Ye Qing had risked his own life to save her.

”Still, this is very odd,” the doctor said, looking at Ye Qing. ”Mr. Ye, even if you sucked out the venom, there should be some residual venom inside the patient. Snake venom is very stubborn, and without medication, it cannot be completely cleared from the body. Yet, why can’t we detect any snake venom in Miss Ou’s blood?”
