Urban Martial Saint

Liang Zi stared at Old Han for a long while, suddenly his eyes widened, and he blurted out, ”Damn, could it be that Ye has been arrested by the police?”

Old Han replied, ”Could that be? Ye took down Hong Tianxiang last night. Wang Yuanbo, no matter how bold he is, probably wouldn’t want to get involved in this mess.”

”Damn, Ye doesn’t have any close ties with Wang Yuanbo, let alone the police. Who would invite him for a meal?” Liang Zi waved his hands hastily, adding, ”No way, we must tell Fifth Brother right away. Whether Ye was invited to dine or taken away, we need to let Fifth Brother know first!”

After saying this, Liang Zi hurriedly ran out to contact Old Fifth Yang and informed him about the situation.

Old Fifth Yang, upon receiving the message, was quite astonished and quickly called Pan Hongliang to find out what exactly had happened.

Pan Hongliang didn’t know what had transpired either, but he relayed a critical piece of information to Old Fifth Yang—that Municipal Police Chief Huang Feiming had personally led a team down. The personnel movements in Jiuchuan County right now were all arranged by Huang Feiming himself. Even he, the deputy chief, wasn’t included in these arrangements and had no idea what was going on.

Shocked by this information, Old Fifth Yang realized that Wang Yuanbo, that old fox, definitely wouldn’t get involved in the matter between Ye Qing and Hong Tianxiang. However, Huang Feiming was a different story. Could Ye Qing have been arrested by Huang Feiming? If that was indeed the case, then he, Old Fifth Yang, was helpless in this situation. He could not influence Wang Yuanbo, let alone Huang Feiming!

After much consideration, Old Fifth Yang decided to inform Da Fei about this. He didn’t know what connections Ye Qing had used to reach Wu Anping, but if they were to rescue Ye Qing, then they would need Wu Anping, and Da Fei, who had met Wu Anping with Ye Qing, was the best person for this.

Da Fei was in the hospital, mainly looking after Ye Qing’s father, Ye Changwen. Upon receiving Old Fifth Yang’s message, he too was greatly shocked. He could no longer stay to look after Ye Changwen and immediately went downstairs, preparing to find Wu Anping to handle the matter.

Just at that moment, a Toyota Prado slowly drove into the Jiuchuan County Hospital. Three people got out of the car, with Xu Changzhi leading.

Having learnt from Ye Qing last time that his father was hospitalized, Xu Changzhi had come to Jiuchuan County. Since he couldn’t contact Ye Qing, he decided to try his luck at the hospital.

Accompanied by two women, he was hesitating about which building to enter in search of people when he suddenly saw Da Fei hurriedly running down from upstairs. Xu Changzhi couldn’t help but feel relieved; he wouldn’t need to search any further.

Xu Changzhi hurried forward to stop Da Fei, saying, ”Hey, Fei, hello!”

Da Fei looked up at Xu Changzhi and exclaimed, ”Huh, what are you doing here?”

Xu Changzhi replied, ”I’m here to look for Ye. Where is he now?”

Da Fei sighed and said, ”Ah, your timing couldn’t be worse. Ye has been arrested by the police!”

”What?” Xu Changzhi felt a chill all over his body. Da Fei’s ambiguous words made him immediately suspect that Ye Qing was arrested because of his involvement in the Lu Family massacre.

”Alright, I won’t talk more; I need to think of a way to save Ye first.” Da Fei waved his hand and added, ”If you’re looking for Ye, go up to the luxury ward number three on the top floor in the meantime; Ye’s father is staying in the room there. I’ll see you later!”

After saying this, Da Fei hurriedly rushed out. Xu Changzhi, still in a daze, had only suspected that Ye Qing might be the killer before. Now that Ye Qing had indeed been arrested by the police, could it mean that his suspicion was correct, that Ye Qing was indeed the killer?

Seeing Xu Changzhi standing motionless, his sister couldn’t help but ask curiously, ”Brother, brother, where do we go now?”

Suddenly coming to his senses, Xu Changzhi furrowed his brows tightly, stood there silently for a long while, then suddenly turned around and got into the car, saying, ”To the police station!”

On the other side, Da Fei hurriedly drove to the military base but was stopped by the guards at the entrance. In fact, they had never entered before; Wu Anping had come to assist Ye Qing only after receiving a call from Chen Chunyang. Naturally, entering the military base gates was not something he could simply decide to do. No matter how much Da Fei pleaded at the entrance, the guard steadfastly refused him entry. Even though he mentioned Wang Qian’an’s name, the guard continued to block him, as it was ultimately a military facility.

Da Fei didn’t have the authority that Ye Qing had, nor did he dare to forcefully enter the barracks, so he could only pace anxiously at the entrance to the base.

What he didn’t know was that Wu Anping was also uneasy at that moment. In his office, Huang Feiming, accompanied by two deputy directors, was leisurely sitting on the sofa. Wu Anping’s brow was tightly furrowed, though he was known for his fiery temper and fearlessness. However, being approached by the Municipal Police Chief to release someone put him in a tough spot.

Huang Feiming had significant influence in the city, and if he didn’t release the person, he would definitely face trouble. If Huang Feiming escalated the issue, Wu Anping was highly likely to get punished. After all, his unit did not have the authority to arrest people, let alone detain police officers.

But, whether it was for Chen Chunyang’s sake or from a standpoint of justice and fairness, he was unwilling to release these police officers. His support for Ye Qing against Hong Tianxiang was not only because of Chen Chunyang but also because he had long disapproved of Hong Tianxiang’s actions. If he released the police now, and if something happened to Zhou Hongbin, then Hong Tianxiang might well escape justice.

Huang Feiming appeared very relaxed, looking at Wu Anping and said, ”So, Minister Wu, are you going to release him or not? Just say the word, and I’ll leave right away. You know, Jiuchuan County has just experienced a significant murder, and I don’t have time to waste. If this delays my investigation, I’ll have trouble explaining to the municipal and provincial authorities later on!”

Wu Anping’s frown deepened. Huang Feiming had even brought up the provincial authorities, clearly trying to pressure him. The implication was clear: if he didn’t release the person this time, then Huang Feiming would pin the inability to solve the case on him. It wouldn’t just be a simple matter of overstepping his authority then!

Seeing Wu Anping’s expression, Huang Feiming couldn’t help but sneer repeatedly, thinking, ”You refused to give me face, huh? Now, be arrogant again, say you won’t release them again. Damn, you’re still scared when you see me, huh!”

After a long silence, Wu Anping suddenly slammed his hand on the table and said, ”I’m sorry, Director Huang, I can release those officers you want. But Wu Jianbing and Zhou Hongbin, I cannot release these two people!”

”What do you mean?” Huang Feiming hadn’t expected Wu Anping to dare defy him and burst out in anger, rising from his seat: ”Wu Jianbing and Zhou Hongbin are deputy directors of the Jiuchuan County Police Department, key commanders in this operation. Setting aside whether your troops have the authority or qualifications to detain people, by holding them here, how am I supposed to solve the case?”

”Director Huang, these two people are simply worms and rats in the police force. I don’t even know how they became deputy directors. However, I feel that if you let them command the investigation, I reckon this case won’t be solved at all!” Wu Anping said, ”I mean this for your own good, these two simply aren’t capable of solving the case. Taking them would only hinder your progress, it’s better they stay here.”

Huang Feiming angrily said, ”Wu Anping, you can’t speak so bluntly. The court hasn’t passed judgment yet; everyone is just a suspect. What right do you have to call them worms and rats?”

Wu Anping coldly replied, ”Based on the evidence I hold and their testimonies!”

Huang Feiming said, ”You holding onto these things is useless; this is a military facility and you are not allowed to interfere in local affairs. You have already overstepped your boundaries, let me tell you, you must release them. Otherwise, I…”

”No need for otherwise!” Wu Anping, feeling threatened by Huang Feiming, immediately interrupted him in anger: ”I just won’t release them. If you have the ability, dismiss me then. If not, leave early. As you said, this is a military facility, it’s not your place to point fingers here!”

”You...” Huang Feiming was nearly enraged to explosion; he hadn’t expected Wu Anping to dare talk back to him. Opening his mouth wide, it took him a long while to utter a sentence: ”I… I will definitely complain about you to higher authorities... you abusing power, overstepping authority, disrupting local stability, just wait…”

”Director Huang, don’t pin so many charges on me, I’m afraid I can’t bear them!” Wu Anping coldly said, ”What abusing power, what overstepping authority, what disrupting stability. Let me tell you, I have always been like this. From the days when I fought in wars till now, we soldiers have been working for the people. Why else do we say people’s army, soldiers, all are children of the people. If you police can’t act on behalf of the people, then we will come out and eliminate the harm for them. I don’t see any overstepping or disrupting stability in that. Moreover, since I’ve arrested these people, quite a few civilians have applauded. Think about who is really disrupting stability, hm!”

Huang Feiming was momentarily stunned and, fuming, eventually flung his sleeves and said, ”Wu Anping, don’t try to paint yourself as noble. This country operates under the rule of law, this society has a system. Just wait, you will regret this!”

After that, Huang Feiming left furiously with his subordinates, incredibly incensed. He had thought that coming in person would suppress Wu Anping, but he had underestimated just how stubborn Wu Anping really was!

Watching Huang Feiming and his people walk away, Wu Anping couldn’t help but sigh. His personality was just like that, impulsive and easily angered, his hatred for wrongdoing made him prone to offending others. Offending the Municipal Police Chief this time, he didn’t know what his fate would be. But thinking of what Hong Tianxiang, Wu Jianbing, and Zhou Hongbin had done, he didn’t regret it at all.

All of a sudden, Wu Anping slammed the table and muttered to himself, ”If worse comes to worst, I will no longer be a soldier and go back home to farm. Hong Tianxiang, I’m willing to lose this uniform, but this time, I will take you down!”
