Urban Martial Saint

At that moment, Wang Yuanbo mentioned the incident where Wu Anping arrested the two deputy directors, not to have Huang Feiming rescue them, but to shirk responsibility.

He wanted the higher-ups to know that it wasn’t that he didn’t want to solve the case or that he was slow to act, but that Wu Anping had detained his two deputy directors, preventing him from setting up a special task force and adjusting personnel in time. If the case remained unsolved, it wouldn’t be his fault. If anyone was to blame, it would be Wu Anping for detaining those two, so he wouldn’t have to take the blame.

Wang Yuanbo made this call precisely to shift the responsibility onto Wu Anping first. Even if the case wasn’t solved later, he would bear less responsibility.

After Huang Feiming heard what Wang Yuanbo reported about the events in Jiuchuan County, especially how Wu Anping had taken his team and arrested all those police officers along with the two deputy directors and taken them to the military base, he was extremely furious.

”Damn it, what’s with these soldiers? Overturning the heavens? We usually let it slide, but now they are stepping on our heads at the police department?” Huang Feiming roared furiously, ”Go tell that Wu Anping to release our people immediately, tell him I said so.”

Wang Yuanbo said in a low voice, ”Director Huang, this... Wu Anping has a weird temper, I’m afraid he won’t listen to me...”

”Just go and tell him to release the people. Whether he releases them or not, that’s no longer your concern!” Huang Feiming said sternly, ”I want to see just how bold he is. If he dares not to release them, I’ll report this matter tomorrow and see how he explains it to the higher-ups!”

Hearing this, Wang Yuanbo was overjoyed and quickly replied, ”Yes, yes, I’ll notify him right now!”

”Damn, if you’re a soldier, just be a good soldier, why stir up so much trouble!” Huang Feiming cursed and hung up the phone, then dialed another number, instructing a confidant to organize the case materials from Jiuchuan County overnight.

This was a major case, and surely the main leaders in the city would inquire about it tomorrow, so he had to be clear about the entire case to avoid being caught unprepared. Moreover, the key issue here was the conflict between the troops stationed in Jiuchuan County and the police, which was a big deal; he planned to use this incident to write an article.

After giving all the instructions, Huang Feiming finally put away his phone and walked out of the restroom. Outside was a luxurious private room where several young men were drinking and singing. Three of them were particularly conspicuous; they were the ones Ye Qing had saved last time, including Xu Changzhi.

The youths sitting in the private room were all from prominent families of Dengyang City, but of course, compared to Xu Changzhi, their backgrounds were nothing. So, they specifically came here wanting to get acquainted with Xu Changzhi. One of the youths, who was tall and handsome, had even set his sights on Xu Changzhi’s sister. Marrying Xu Changzhi’s sister would be a huge opportunity for these young scions, like a carp leaping over the dragon gate. After all, Xu Canjun was young, and his promotions were numerous!

In front of Xu Changzhi, Huang Feiming again put on a smile and attended to him carefully. The recent incident where Xu Changzhi was almost killed after being abducted by the Carjack Gang had given Huang Feiming quite a headache for several days, fearing that the matter would reach the province and, as the city police chief, he would have to bear a great responsibility.

Fortunately, Xu Changzhi was a reasonable person. Huang Feiming had pulled some strings, personally apologized, and entertained Xu Changzhi in various ways, which ultimately helped quash the matter. Huang Feiming was also adept at maneuvering through difficult situations, and even after suppressing the matter, he continued to entertain Xu Changzhi every day, all to connect with Xu Canjun.

Seeing Huang Feiming come out, a young man immediately smiled and said, ”Director Huang, it’s past midnight and you still have so much work? Your phone hasn’t stopped ringing, what a busy man you are.”

”Ah!” Huang Feiming sighed, ”In our line of work, when do we ever get a break? Every day is busy. This phone can’t be turned off twenty-four hours a day, you never know when you might need to personally step in. Being a police officer these days is tough!”

”You can forget about that!” another young man laughed, ”At your position, who needs to be that busy? That phone call just now was either a call from your superiors offering sympathy, or it must have been about some urgent matter!”

”Really, Young Master Li, nothing escapes you,” Huang Feiming paused, then said, ”Don’t mention it, there really has been a major incident.”

”Oh? What major incident? Tell us about it!” The people in the room immediately perked up, curiosity is something everyone has.

Huang Feiming repeated the events in Jiuchuan County. After listening, everyone in the room was also shocked. Murders were rare these days, let alone such a massacre. Killing so many people at once, was this the work of a person, or a demon?

A skinny young man said softly, ”That’s too cruel, isn’t it? What era are we living in that we still solve problems with violence!”

”The woods are big, and all sorts of birds are found,” another young man said, ”But this is indeed a major case, and it’s also a big challenge for Director Huang.”

”Yes, not to mention our Dengyang City, even the whole of Pingnan Province has hardly ever seen such a big case.”

Everyone was discussing fervently, except Xu Changzhi who remained silent the whole time. When he heard the words ”Jiuchuan County,” he immediately thought of Ye Qing, remembering that Ye Qing was from Jiuchuan County. Could this matter be related to Ye Qing?

Recalling the night Ye Qing had single-handedly taken down the entire Carjack Gang, Xu Changzhi felt somewhat panicked. Given Ye Qing’s skills, and the ferocity of his actions, it was hard to say whether he could be the one behind this case. But, what if it really was him?

While everyone was still discussing, Xu Changzhi suddenly stood up, startling everyone in the room.

Huang Feiming looked at Xu Changzhi, expressing his surprise, ”Young Master Xu, what is this...”

”I have some matters to attend to and need to leave first!” After saying this, Xu Changzhi left the private room directly with his sister and the charming woman.

The few people inside the room looked at each other, puzzled about what had come over Xu Changzhi. Huang Feiming felt particularly uneasy, wondering if he had said something to upset him. But after thinking it over, he couldn’t recall saying anything inappropriate.

Xu Changzhi returned to his room, initially intending to call his father, Xu Canjun, immediately to discuss this matter. However, it was already past midnight, and his father had gone to sleep, so Xu Changzhi decided not to disturb him and waited until the next morning after seven.

Before Xu Canjun had left for work, he received a call from his son. As Xu Changzhi relayed the situation he encountered in Dengyang City, Xu Canjun frowned slightly. It hadn’t occurred to him that a trip to Dengyang City could almost cost his children their lives, naturally leaving him somewhat dissatisfied with the city’s public security. However, when Xu Changzhi brought up the mass murder in Jiuchuan County, Xu Canjun immediately furrowed his eyebrows even deeper.

Having reached his position at such an age, Xu Canjun possessed a more acute instinct than anyone else, and he quickly felt that Ye Qing might have a major connection with the mass murder in Jiuchuan County. Moreover, his son’s call was undoubtedly intended to speak in favor of Ye Qing.

After his son finished recounting the events in Jiuchuan County, Xu Canjun stated plainly, ”We live in a law-based society, where everyone must act according to the law, which is fundamental to maintaining social order. Human life is paramount; fifteen lives, no matter who took them, must face legal consequences.”

Xu Changzhi was taken aback; he hadn’t even had a chance to speak for Ye yet, and Xu Canjun had already countered everything he planned to say. Xu Canjun’s words clearly indicated that even if Ye Qing had committed the crime, he must be processed according to the law, with no exceptions made because he had once saved Xu Changzhi.

Desperate, Xu Changzhi said, ”Dad, if not for Brother Ye, I’m afraid we all would have...”

”Changzhi, you know my temperament very well. Therefore, I hope you won’t say things you shouldn’t!” Xu Canjun interrupted Xu Changzhi, adding, ”Visit your aunt as soon as possible and come back. Also, I don’t care whose car you were driving in Dengyang City, but don’t let me find out that you’re driving such an expensive car again. We, the Xu Family, can be poor, but we must have integrity. We can use whatever we earn ourselves freely. Things that don’t belong to us, we won’t use!”

Xu Canjun hung up immediately after speaking, taking a very strict approach to educating his son. He wasn’t as strict with his daughters. Firstly, after all, they were girls, and secondly, one of the daughters wasn’t really Xu Canjun’s biological daughter but the daughter of a comrade-in-arms who had died in battle. Xu Canjun had adopted her after his demise. Thus, he diverted most of his love to his adopted daughter and was very tough on his own son.

Fortunately, the family treated the adopted daughter as one of their own, and over the years, the Xu family remained harmonious.

Hanging up the phone, Xu Changzhi felt overwhelmed with worry. Knowing his father’s temperament, persuading him further was futile; now, all he could do was watch how things would unfold.

After contemplating in his room for a while, Xu Changzhi suddenly stood up, walked out of his room, and called the two girls from the next room to go downstairs.

”Brother, where are we going so early in the morning?” The two girls, clearly still sleepy, murmured drowsily.

Xu Changzhi started the car, glanced at the two girls, and said decisively, ”To Jiuchuan County!”

”Jiuchuan County?” Both girls were stunned and were still unclear about the situation when Xu Changzhi had already driven away from the hotel.

At 8:30 AM, Huang Feiming had already reviewed all the files concerning the mass murder case in Jiuchuan County in his office and was waiting for a call from the city leaders.

Sure enough, just before nine, the Secretary-General of the Municipal Party Committee called to inquire about the Jiuchuan County mass murder case. Having just reviewed all the details, Huang Feiming spoke fluently and explained the entire case from start to finish. Lastly, he also mentioned the incident involving Jiuchuan County’s Armed Force Commandant Wu Anping detaining two deputy directors and over twenty police officers from Jiuchuan County Police Department.
