Over the phone, Third Brother fell silent for a while before speaking, ”Eldest Brother, I know what you mean. Yes, Teacher Gu did save your life, and I won’t deny that. But when it comes to helping others, you’ve got to see whether you can actually help, right? The woman is in such bad shape, can you really save her at your small clinic?

Let me tell you, if she dies, that’s going to count as a medical accident. If people find out that someone died in your clinic, how are you going to continue running it?”

”Whether or not I can save her is up to fate. But whether or not I want to save her, that’s my business,” Hou said. ”No matter what, I can’t just watch her die. Third Brother, everyone’s heart is made of flesh—I don’t understand what you mean. But, could you please listen to my advice? There is such a thing as retribution in this world.

Don’t do so many bad things!”

”I’m not going to talk nonsense with you. How am I doing anything bad? These days, who makes clean money? Just because you are morally high, doesn’t mean you treat people for free either. Besides, I’m calling you for your own good. Do you really think I’m trying to trick you?” Third Brother paused, then continued, ”No matter how you see it, I had to tell you.

This matter is troublesome, you should back off, otherwise even your small clinic won’t be spared. Your wife is only two months pregnant; if you lose the clinic, what will you use to support your wife and child?”

Hou sighed and said, ”If I don’t help Teacher Gu, I am afraid the child might be born only to face divine retribution!”

”You...” Third Brother was choked by these words, and it took him a while to respond, ”Brother, let me tell you the truth. Secretary Hong’s secretary just met with He Biao, discussing Gu Xianping’s situation. He Biao has already sent people out, and from the tone of it, it seems they plan to take care of Xianping and his family.

You’d better not get involved; this matter is too risky, don’t get yourself tangled up in it!”

”What? What’s going on? What does Secretary Hong... what is he planning to do?” Hou widened his eyes and urgently said, ”Teacher Gu is already in this condition, Gu Yaqing is so severely injured, how could they not spare him? What do these people actually want?”

”Stop talking nonsense. I’m not going to discuss this with you anymore. If you really want to help Gu Xianping, you’d better send them away quickly. It’s best if you don’t get involved in this matter. We are brothers, that’s why I’m telling you this!”

After saying this, Third Brother hung up the phone, leaving Hou stunned.

Upstairs, Ye Qing stood by the window, looking at Gu Yaqing lying unconscious on the hospital bed. The once frail, skinny little girl had turned into a beautiful and delicate young woman. However, excessive blood loss and malnutrition had made her much thinner than her peers.

Her arms were covered with dense needle marks from the infusions, and various medicine bottles filled the space beside her bed. Her condition now demanded that these medications be administered almost every second!

Gu Xianping sat beside the bed, tears silently streaming down his swollen eyes. This man, who once had an air of an old scholar, appeared so helpless now. He knew very well, without Hou even mentioning, that if Yaqing wasn’t taken to a hospital, she wouldn’t survive.

All he could do now was to watch his daughter gradually waste away each day, eventually dying, and there was nothing he could change about it.

”Teacher Gu, have some porridge,” Chen Jun said solemnly as he handed the porridge bowl to Xianping, but Xianping seemed oblivious.

”Ah!” Chen Jun sighed heavily, then turned to Ye Qing and said, ”Yaqing is a good girl. She’s also in her final year of high school and was about to take her college entrance exams. It’s tragic to see her like this. Yaqing’s studies are excellent, and without any mishaps, she could definitely get into a good university. But now, with her like this...”

While speaking, even the strong-willed Chen Jun couldn’t help but wipe away his tears, saying with a heavy voice, ”What on earth is wrong with the world? Why can the wicked disregard human lives, and why don’t the kind-hearted ever get rewarded?”

Ye Qing patted his shoulder, consoling him, ”There’s a saying that sums it up well: it’s not that justice won’t be served, just that the time hasn’t come yet. Rest assured, kind-hearted people will definitely be rewarded!”

”Really? Then why haven’t I seen it?” Chen Jun pointed at Xianping and said, ”Teacher Gu has done so many good deeds over the years, helped so many impoverished students, but what has he gotten in return? Yaqing has been injured like this, sent to the hospital, and thrown out again because there was no money. Isn’t a hospital a place to save lives and heal the injured?

Why must human life be tied to money?”

Before Ye Qing could respond, his cellphone suddenly rang. He walked to the doorway with his cellphone, where Da Fei’s voice came through, ”Brother, somebody really did come looking for Zhou Hongbin’s wife and child!”

Ye Qing slowly nodded, asking, ”How did it go?”

”Better than we expected!” Da Fei excitedly said, ”They turned over Zhou Hongbin’s home and even took away his wife and child, it looks like this way we might avoid a lot of trouble.”

Ye Qing’s eyes lit up, saying, ”Very good, keep an eye on it!”

”No problem!”

After hanging up the phone, Ye Qing finally took a deep breath, his plan was already seventy percent completed. Originally, he had intended to have Da Fei pretend to be Hong Tianxiang’s man and kidnap Zhou Hongbin’s wife and child, to turn Zhou against Hong. Unexpectedly, Hong had acted impatiently and taken Zhou’s wife and child.

With Hong acting personally, Ye no longer needed to create these false scenarios. This alone would probably be enough to set Zhou against Hong.

Ye Qing walked back into the room and said to Chen Jun, ”Yaqing’s condition isn’t that severe; it’s mainly the hematoma in her brain that needs to be cleared. Surgery might cost around two to three hundred thousand, I...”

Before Ye could finish, Hou suddenly ran upstairs frantically, saying, ”Jun, something... something has gone wrong!”

”What’s happened?” Chen Jun asked in surprise, sensing something amiss from Hou’s panicked expression.

Hou briefly repeated Third Brother’s words. Upon hearing them, both Chen Jun and Gu Xianping became startled.

”Hong Tianxiang, that old bastard, what on earth does he want to do?” Chen Jun exclaimed angrily.

”We... we didn’t provoke them, why do they want to completely eradicate us...” Gu Xianping said in a panic.

Hou said, ”I heard from Third Brother that they are probably here to capture Teacher Gu. I don’t know what exactly they want, but it can’t be anything good. Right now, the priority is to quickly send Teacher Gu and Yaqing away. We absolutely can’t let these people capture them!”

”Yes, yes, yes, let’s hurry and send Teacher Gu and Yaqing away!” Chen Jun hurriedly nodded, saying, ”But, with Yaqing like this, wouldn’t it be dangerous to take her outside?”

Ye Qing suddenly spoke, ”Leave Yaqing to me!”

”Ah?” The three people in the room turned to look at him, and Chen Jun asked in surprise, ”Leave her to you? You... you know medical treatment?”

”A little bit!” Ye Qing said, ”At least I can ensure Yaqing’s safety.”

Chen Jun and Hou looked at each other, both unsure whether what Ye Qing was saying was true or false, not daring to make that decision.

”There’s no time left, everyone stop hesitating!” Ye Qing leaned over, pulled out the syringe from Gu Yaqing’s arm, and simultaneously pressed down on two acupoints on her body.

Ye Qing had been studying the Acupoint Seeking Technique for a long time, although he still couldn’t use Inner Strength to treat people, his medical skills had improved significantly since Ou Keren had opened up his acupoints with steel needles, enough to ensure that Gu Yaqing would not die, which was indeed true.

”Ah...” Hou wanted to stop him, but it was too late. Seeing that Gu Yaqing was breathing normally in Ye Qing’s arms, he was greatly surprised but also relieved. It seemed that what Ye Qing was saying was true.

”Where are you going to take Yaqing?” Hou asked, ”If it really is Hong Tianxiang sending people to capture Teacher Gu and Yaqing, I’m afraid there’s nowhere in Jiuchuan County left to hide!”

”That’s something you don’t need to worry about. Just leave it to me!” Ye Qing said, ”Chen Jun, you take Teacher Gu and leave. Hou, you stay here, don’t engage in direct conflict with those people. Oh, and if you see those people, don’t ever mention that I was here, understand?”

”Why?” Chen Jun asked curiously.

Ye Qing gave a faint smile and said, ”You’ll know soon enough, but remember, don’t ever say I was here.”

Chen Jun and Hou were completely baffled, not understanding what Ye Qing meant. But at this moment, both of them really had no opinions of their own and could only do as Ye Qing had said.

Chen Jun, taking Gu Xianping, ran out through the back alley, while Ye Qing, carrying Gu Yaqing, ran down another path, leaving Hou to guard the small clinic.

Less than ten minutes after everyone had scattered, more than twenty men entered the alley. The leader was He Tao, who had been beaten up by Chen Jun earlier that afternoon. Now with so many people with him, his demeanor was even more arrogant, swaggering as if the lane could barely contain him.

Leading his underlings into the small clinic, as soon as he entered, He Tao immediately kicked the glass cabinet and cursed, ”Damn, who’s in charge here!”

The glass cabinet shattered from He Tao’s kick, Hou watched with distress but still cautiously came forward, saying, ”I am, may I ask…”

”Ask your mother!” He Tao slapped Hou across the face, saying, ”Is that old guy Gu Xianping’s daughter here for treatment? Where is she?”

Hou, infuriated by the slap, saw the many men behind He Tao and still swallowed his anger, saying, ”Oh, you’re talking about Teacher Gu, they just left. You know, the conditions here are poor, I really couldn’t treat Yaqing’s disease properly, so they went to find another doctor!”

”Gone? Who the hell are you fooling?” He Tao glared, saying, ”That old geezer Gu, not having a single cent to his name, where could he take his bitch daughter for treatment? Find another doctor? You think you can fool me?”

Hou whispered, ”I really didn’t lie to you, they... they really left...”

”Left your mother!” He Tao waved his hand and said, ”Let me find out, do you believe I’ll burn your clinic down!”
