The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1801: Chapter 1801: Yuan Gui’s Plan

Originally, Yuan Gui was planning to go hunting in the mountains. He was quite skilled, had fully recovered from his injuries, and hunting made money quickly.

But neither the Old Village Chief nor Granny Fang agreed. Although General Huang said those rebels had already been caught, the Old Village Chief mentioned that earlier, when rebels attacked various villages, they escaped into the mountains when chased by the soldiers.

Who knew if there might be a few stragglers hiding in there? If Yuan Gui ran into them, it would be too late to say anything.

Since this was the case, Yuan Gui decided to return to the county office to do some odd jobs.

The county office was short-staffed, and as he had worked there for a while, he was familiar with it, so returning was suitable.

Upon hearing this, Shu Yu did not stop him anymore, only saying she would definitely be there the day after tomorrow.

After Yuan Gui left, she turned to Ying Xi and said, ”They are acknowledging kinship the day after tomorrow. We must prepare some gifts, right? Let’s go, there’s still time. Let’s head to the market and see what we can buy.”

Shu Yu wasn’t too familiar with kinship acknowledgment rituals of this era, so she went to ask Meng Pei.

But Meng Pei was clueless too, and after asking others at the escort agency, everyone had different opinions.

Ultimately, Shu Yu decided to buy some everyday items and food that wouldn’t go wrong, and before she knew it, they ended up with a large miscellaneous heap.

On the day of the kinship acknowledgment, Shu Yu set off with Ying Xi and Meng Pei, who said he wanted to witness the event.

As they had some items to buy on the spot, they set off a bit late.

Now, on the official road outside the city, there were already some people moving about.

Especially in the direction of entering the city, many had stayed at home for nearly a month, and some items needed purchasing in the city were running out. Even though they were somewhat worried, they still traveled together.

Thinking it over, Shu Yu realized that very soon, this road would return to its bustling state, as the New Year was approaching.

Just as she was thinking this, she suddenly noticed two familiar figures ahead.

”Ying Xi, slow down.”

Ying Xi, driving the carriage, pulled the reins slightly, and Meng Pei curiously looked outside the carriage, ”Yu, what’s up?”

”The people ahead look like Granny Guan.”

Having never seen Granny Guan, Meng Pei didn’t recognize her. Ying Xi looked closely and recognized her too.

Driving the carriage, she stopped immediately beside the two people. Shu Yu leaned out and asked, ”Granny Guan, are you... also going to Hedeng Village?”

Granny Guan was traveling with Old Man Guan, who was carrying a basket. They were walking quite slowly.

Upon hearing her voice, Granny Guan was momentarily surprised, then quickly seemed to remember something and was about to kneel down.

Shu Yu was startled, and Ying Xi immediately jumped down from the carriage shaft to support her.

”Granny Guan, what are you doing?”

Granny Guan exclaimed, ”Oh my, Monarch Lu Xiang. Last time, this old woman did not recognize your status. I... I...”

Shu Yu placed a hand on her forehead, ”Granny Guan, there’s no need for such formalities. We are fellow villagers; there’s no need for that.”

She changed the subject, ”Are you heading to Hedeng Village?”

”Yes, yes, yes. Yuan Gui came over a few days ago and said he was acknowledging kinship with Sister Fang. We originally thought it was unsafe outside, so we told Yuan Gui we wouldn’t go. But later we realized that such an important occasion must be witnessed. So, after hearing that it was safe outside the city, we came out with my old partner.”

”I see. I’m also going to Hedeng Village. Granny Guan, why don’t you get in the carriage with us, and we’ll go together?”

Granny Guan hurriedly refused, ”Oh no, that won’t do. We’re fine walking. Monarch Lu Xiang, your carriage is clean and tidy. We can’t get in and dirty it.”
