The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1781: Chapter 1781: Hedeng Village

Although Xia Yi will return to the capital in the future, Chenggu County will have a new county magistrate. But if Granny Fang and Yuan Gui wish, Xia Yi will likely arrange things well for them.

Who would have thought Yuan Gui, sitting on the shaft, would smile and say, ”No, we will return to Hedeng Village.”

Shu Yu paused, ”Return to Hedeng Village?”

Granny Fang in the carriage gave a bitter smile, ”Ah Gui is doing it for me. I’m unwilling to stay at the county office; I want to return to the village. Ah Gui is worried that I’ll be left alone with no one to care for me, so he insists on coming back with me. Actually, it would be better for him to stay at the county office. He’s skilled, and if the new county magistrate favors him, he would have a bright future. I don’t want to hold him back, Monarch Lu Xiang, could you help persuade Ah Gui?”

”No need to persuade, I find Hedeng Village quite nice, very peaceful.”

Granny Fang disagreed, ”Peaceful for what? You are a young man of marrying age. Working at the county office would make it easier to arrange a marriage. Why insist on coming back with me?”

Shu Yu looked at Granny Fang, then at Yuan Gui outside the carriage, starting to ponder, ”Why doesn’t Granny want to live in the county town? Isn’t it more convenient?”

But Granny Fang suddenly turned her head, seemingly unwilling to answer.

Shu Yu squinted, is there something in the county town that makes Granny Fang wary? When they first met Yuan Gui, he said Granny Fang was resistant to coming to the county town. This time, they had no choice but to come to town to see the doctor, only to encounter rebels, staying for such a long time.

Shu Yu stared at Granny Fang for a moment, the latter just laughed dryly twice.

She could only sigh quietly, indeed, there are some things Granny Fang seems unwilling to discuss further.

She changed the question, ”Have you considered returning to Dongan Province? Granny Fang previously fled from there, and Yuan Gui was originally from Dongan Province. Wouldn’t returning to your hometown be nice?”

Yuan Gui pursed his lips without speaking, but Granny Fang seemed to understand, and her voice suddenly became melancholy, ”Dongan Province... that place is a sad place for me, not a single relative left. What’s the point of going back?”

Shu Yu was startled, ”Not a single relative left? Granny Fang, how can you be so sure? Have you gone back to see?”

Granny Fang shook her head, but she seemed unwilling to continue talking.

”Granny...”

Shu Yu felt a bit frustrated, wanting to ask more, but Granny Fang pointed ahead and said, ”It’s just another mile to Hedeng Village, Monarch Lu Xiang. We haven’t been back for more than twenty days, the house must be very dirty. If we can’t entertain properly, please don’t mind.”

This was clearly an awkward attempt at changing the topic, making Shu Yu somewhat amused and helpless.

It seems better to ask around in the village for now.

The carriage indeed quickly reached Hedeng Village, Granny Fang’s home was inside the village, so the carriage passed through.

Originally, the village was very quiet, but the actions of those rebels had evidently affected this place; there were damaged traps at the village entrance.

Now as they entered the village, except for a few people walking around, everyone else was hiding inside their houses, with not a single child outside.

Fortunately, it’s winter now, no farm work is needed, and everyone is keeping warm indoors.

Hearing the sound of the carriage wheels rolling on the road, people poked their heads out nervously to look outside.

Until they saw Yuan Gui sitting on the shaft, they breathed a long sigh of relief.
