The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1763: Chapter 1763: Just a Sword

Although Uncle Meng and Ms. Tao didn’t have a deep emotional connection or an affectionate marriage, their days together started off quite well.

Even though Ms. Tao was always thinking about her maiden family and her brother, Uncle Meng didn’t mind these things. After all, he believed that his life was saved by his father-in-law, and he himself would also help out. Moreover, since he was often away with the escorts, there were no elders at home, so Ms. Tao inevitably needed more assistance from her maiden family.

She had just gotten married and wasn’t familiar with her surroundings, so it’s normal that she was close to her maiden family.

Originally, their days went by peacefully, and Uncle Meng was very satisfied. Who would have thought that one day, his father-in-law’s attitude towards him would suddenly turn cold.

”At first, I didn’t understand why, until a few days ago when I found out the reason. After listening to the Old Escort Master’s words, my father-in-law had always thought that my family’s treasure was some precious gold and silver jewelry. Only after I married you did he try to subtly find out, and he realized that the so-called treasure was merely a sword.”

”This sword is called the Xuanyuan Sword. It’s a legendary divine weapon, said to grant divine assistance to its wielder.”

Of course, these are just legends. The sword is indeed a good one, but the legendary colors attributed to it are entirely fabrications by others. However, for those who believe, this sword is their shortcut to success.

”The sword was inadvertently obtained by my grandfather back in the day. The Meng family holds the Xuanyuan Sword in high regard, but my father-in-law is not into martial arts and doesn’t understand weapons. In his mind, the Xuanyuan Sword is no different from scissors or a kitchen knife. No matter how sharp, a sword isn’t as practical as a few taels of silver. He was very disappointed, having gone through a lot of trouble to save me and marry his daughter to me, expecting to gain great wealth, only to end up with nothing.”

Of course, such emotions didn’t last long.

Though Father Tao didn’t get any treasure, the Meng family escort agency provided a lot of assistance to the Tao family. When Father Tao subtly expressed his desire to buy a small house in the county town, Uncle Meng readily agreed to cover the expenses, and Father Tao’s enthusiasm returned.

After all, the Meng family’s conditions were much better than the Tao family’s. If their daughter hadn’t married Uncle Meng, she would have only married a farmer’s son from the nearby village.

Compared to those people, marrying into the Meng family was more advantageous.

There were no elders weighing on the Meng family, and Uncle Meng’s only brother would not return even once a year, putting the entire escort agency under Uncle Meng’s control.

Father Tao enjoyed the filial piety of this son-in-law, but the good times didn’t last long, and the old man’s health started to decline until he passed away shortly after.

Before he passed, he repeatedly urged Uncle Meng to take good care of the Tao family, saying the Tao family depended on him.

”Since then, your Tao family has constantly reminded me of my father-in-law’s life-saving grace, fearing that I might forget because of his passing. Actually, you don’t have to worry. I, Meng Kuan, always uphold my words, and furthermore, your family is my family. As long as it doesn’t violate principles, I will naturally help where I can.”

”Thinking back now, I realize I was wrong. Helping isn’t done in such a way. Two families are two families; I treated him like a younger brother, but he treated me like a fool.”

Saying this, Uncle Meng lifted his head and looked at the Zhang Clan.

”On the day the mountain bandits broke into the Tao family, they originally targeted Tao Feili, right? Why did they suddenly change their mind and take someone else away? Was it because the little brother-in-law diverted the disaster, telling them my family has the Xuanyuan Sword?”

Everyone suddenly turned their heads to look at the Zhang Clan. Ms. Tao was even more shaken, and the astonishing information spoken by Uncle Meng continuously overwhelmed her mind.
