The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1784: Chapter 1784: Old Mrs. Guan

Shu Yu and Ying Xi walked to the entrance of the living room, and the young lady who opened the door earlier came out supporting the old lady.

”Grandmother, this young lady is here to see you.”

Shu Yu nodded at Old Mrs. Guan and smiled, ”You must be Granny Guan. I heard from Yuan Gui that you’re originally from Dongan Province. My family is also from Dongan Province; we are fellow townsfolk.”

Upon hearing that the visitor was from Dongan Province, Old Mrs. Guan’s initially anxious and puzzled eyes suddenly lit up.

”You’re from Dongan Province? Oh, do come in, come in.” The old lady was very pleased and stepped aside to let them in. As she led them inside, she said, ”I left my hometown decades ago. Over the years, the only fellow townsfolk I’ve seen was Yuan Gui recently. Which part of Dongan Province are you from?”

”I’m from Jiangyuan County.”

”I’m from Donggu County, which isn’t far from Jiangyuan County.”

The old lady asked them to sit and quickly asked her granddaughter to pour water.

The Guan Family seemed to only have the grandmother and granddaughter at home; everyone else was out.

Miss Guan immediately went to the kitchen, and Shu Yu then said, ”I’ve been to Donggu County a few times too—the Wangyuan River, the Liu Family Ancestral Hall, and the big camphor tree at the city gate.”

When the old lady heard the familiar names from her hometown, she became even more excited, ”Yes, yes, are those still there? There was a great flood back then, and the water from the Wangyuan River reached as high as the calves. If you weren’t familiar with the area, one misstep and you’d fall. And the camphor tree, that tree must be over a hundred years old by now; it’s a symbol of our Donggu County. Have you been to Fangtuo Street? That place...”

The old lady chattered on, perhaps because it was rare for her to find someone with whom she could share a common topic, allowing her to reminisce, and she couldn’t stop talking. Shu Yu just listened quietly.

Miss Guan brought over the water, and seeing everything was fine here, she went back to her tasks.

Shu Yu thus accompanied the old lady in casual conversation for a while, bringing their relationship closer, before she finally spoke of her purpose for visiting, ”Granny Guan, actually, the reason I came today is to inquire about something.”

Old Mrs. Guan was stunned, right, she almost forgot, this young lady was a stranger, suddenly showing up couldn’t possibly be just to listen to her reminisce about the past; she must have come for a reason.

She realized that she had gotten carried away and hadn’t thought about anything else.

The old lady slapped her forehead, ”Look at me, going on about this and that. I’m getting old, I’ve become a bit long-winded, it must be hard for you to listen to me for so long. Go ahead, what would you like to find out?”

Shu Yu smiled and said, ”Recently I got to know Granny Fang, and I heard she’s also from Dongan Province, so naturally we chatted a bit, and I felt quite close to her. Then I became curious and wanted to ask about how she fled to Changjin Prefecture during those days, whether there are still relatives back home. But Granny Fang was reluctant to talk about it and seemed a bit downhearted. I wondered if something happened to her, or if she encountered some difficulties. If she did, maybe I could help her.”

The old lady suddenly understood, ”So that’s how it is.” She nodded, ”No wonder, she’s never been willing to talk about those days. Now with Ah Gui, who is a kind-hearted child, it seems she doesn’t have any issues. If there were any issues, they would have been from over thirty years ago.”

Shu Yu couldn’t help but straighten her back slightly, ”What do you mean? Over thirty years ago, wasn’t that when she fled here?”
