The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1778: Chapter 1778: Shu Yu Writes a Letter of Safety

Three days later, when Shu Yu estimated that the situation outside the city had been roughly handled, the Deputy General under General Huang, along with some soldiers, entered the city.

He brought with him General Huang’s message—the rebels outside had been captured, the crisis in Chenggu County was resolved, the city gates reopened, allowing the citizens to freely enter and exit the city.

Following that, the Deputy General temporarily stationed himself at the Chenggu County county office to assist Xia Yi.

He brought a substantial number of people, all of them well-trained soldiers, adhering to military management. They were highly efficient and adept in their tasks.

This group quickly replaced the Protectors and house servants of wealthy families like Old Master Yang’s, allowing them to finally return and rest.

With their presence, the burden on Shu Yu lightened considerably. The next day, she took the Deputy General to the black market to bring up the girls and laborers who were still living underground.

Of course, the Deputy General’s main objective was that batch of weapons.

As for the girls and laborers brought up, having stayed in the black market for a long time, their joy on reaching the surface was palpable, yet they appeared awkward, not knowing where to place their hands and feet.

The abandoned mansion had been cleared out by a few laborers a few days ago, and after coming out, they temporarily resided in the abandoned mansion.

Old Master Yang and others sent daily necessities over, and having shared hardships together, they were still able to converse comfortably.

These people’s identities and household registrations hadn’t been established yet. Once things had settled in the prefecture, their identities would be verified. Their thoughts and wishes would be inquired, to see if they wanted to return to their original homes or settle here or elsewhere.

After arranging for them, Shu Yu decided to give herself a vacation. Since the Deputy General under General Huang was busy within the city, she rested for two days and planned to go to the prefecture to find Meng Yunzheng.

Now that the city gates were open, allowing everyone free access, Shu Yu thought of quickly writing a letter to Jiangyuan County, to inform her parents of her safety and wish them a happy New Year in advance.

This year’s New Year was destined to be celebrated here.

Shu Yu didn’t delve deeply into the matters of Chenggu County; she mentioned what needed to be mentioned, but most importantly, she conveyed that she was safe. However, there was a shortage of manpower in the city, and both she and Meng Yunzheng, being the Village Chief and Scholar respectively, were kept here to help.

Midway through writing, Shu Yu thought of Granny Fang.

She was now certain that Granny Fang was her great aunt.

Yet she wasn’t very clear on what happened back then or why Granny Fang was reluctant to mention her family or return home?

Shu Yu originally intended to tell the old lady about this matter but was worried there might be some hidden truths that would lead the old lady to rejoice prematurely.

Perhaps... it’s best to clarify first.

Deciding swiftly, Shu Yu put away the half-written letter and immediately called for Ying Xi, ”Let’s go to the county office.”

During these days, she hadn’t had the opportunity to see Granny Fang, let alone chat with her properly.

There were simply too many things happening, and Granny Fang initially refused to mention the past.

Ying Xi hurriedly picked up the cloak from the reclining chair and followed, the two of them walking briskly out of the escort agency.

However, upon reaching the county office, they were informed that Granny Fang had left, and it had been only a short while ago.

”Now that the city gates are open, Granny Fang realized she hadn’t returned to the village for a long time. When she first left, she was in a hurry, and didn’t have time to tidy up things at home. She’s not even sure how things are now. Regardless, she must go back for a visit.”
