My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1875: Chapter 1669: Who Isn’t Selfish?

In a lifetime spent in this world, no one can truly be completely unselfish, everyone walks down paths they once never wanted to take, always struggling to endure.

Now, in Zhang Ni’s heart, Zhang Yichen is nothing but a selfish father. The consequences of his selfishness have already taken hold; for his own purposes, he will stop at nothing, even at the cost of hurting his own family, hurting the loved ones around him.

He feels that his own father is now utterly terrifying, willing to consider only his own interests within his inner world, willing to hurt everyone around him for his own gain.

Now he can no longer understand why he has done all this, possibly hurting the people who care about him the most, yet it seems like he no longer cares. Even so, he continues to do whatever he pleases, he has abandoned his entire family, treating everything they say as if it were nothing, he is no longer the father he used to be. He has changed, becoming completely different from before, becoming ruthless and cold. Is this really his father? Why is he living like this now?

Zhang Ni cannot understand how his father has become like this, what could be the reason, is it merely a lack of parental love?

Even if it is truly due to a lack of parental love, that doesn’t excuse such actions. Did he even consider his parents before taking such actions? What does he think the outcome will be? Has he ever thought about how deeply his parents will be hurt upon learning the truth? In his eyes, there is only himself now; he has become a completely different person.

Zhang Yichen knows how his image in his son’s heart has changed, but he is helpless, things have come to this point, he can only let this mistake continue. He never thought his life would be this tragic. He thought as long as he could be happy, as long as his parents could be safe, not quarreling over anything, he would be satisfied. But now the world has become such a mess, how can he make it so that nothing ever happened and everything returns to its original state?

”Child, I know deep down now, I am an irresponsible father in your eyes. We have missed out on too much. You know how much I yearn for my parents to be with me. You always had me and your mother’s company, so you don’t know what it feels like to lack parental companionship. You don’t understand that excitement, that longing, and how much it torments. We can’t spend our lives discarding everything we don’t want, expecting others to bear it. No one is willing to bear all this time and again. I want so little, I only hope that everyone can live happily and peacefully. Why is it so difficult?

Now in your heart, I have no place. You always think that everything I’ve done is for selfish desires. You know, over the years I have seen how much my grandfather has suffered, how much he yearns for his son to be by his side. I have grown accustomed to my parents not being by my side, but my grandfather cannot. He’s old, he cannot withstand any disturbances. He only hopes to fulfill his last wishes. How could I easily extinguish all my grandfather’s hopes out of hatred?

Deep down, you should understand how he truly feels about me.

You have also seen how difficult these years have been for him, how much he has suffered. He gave everything best to me.

Am I now supposed to let all these years of expectations be destroyed over such a small matter?

I once told you, I always repay what I owe, I’d rather destroy what I can’t get than let others have it, but now I can’t do that.

Because if I did, who knows what would become of my grandfather. Sometimes, you should consider things from other people’s perspectives as well.

The era of my selfish self is over, I can no longer live with a clear conscience like before, now I am full of fear for life, afraid that I will inadvertently hurt my family. Every decision I make now is ultimately for the family to live in harmony. Look at this home now, does it still have the semblance of a home? It’s not a home, your mother has become like this, and now you want me to drive your grandfather and grandmother out over some matters, then this home would truly be shattered, beyond restoration to its former peace.”

Although Zhang Ni could disregard his parents’ thoughts, he couldn’t ignore his great-grandfather’s wishes.

Deep down, more than anyone else, he understands how well Old Master Zhang treated his father, and him. He wanted to give us everything he had, yet now he is being hurt by these matters. How can one’s conscience rest easy? How can he face all the people who have helped him? Can everything he does be truly worthy of their assistance, worthy of all their past efforts and joy? Never did he think how hard this life would be, all he ever wanted was happiness for everyone in this family.

Ultimately, there’s nothing wrong with what his father did; he became this way for the family’s sake, for the happiness of everyone in this family, taking step by step to where he is now. Everything he did was for the family and himself. If he were to blame him over these matters, would that be right? He would indeed become unkind, disloyal, and unfilial. No matter what, he must ensure that his family lives safely and happily. A family’s most important thing is being able to rely on each other, staying together despite the thorns ahead, embracing tightly, never to part.

A happy life is not given by others, but earned by oneself!
