My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1860: Chapter 1654: Longing

How much I once longed for someone to reach out and help me when I was at my most difficult and helpless.

Even though Xia Jing knew that Zhang Zhentian wasn’t lying about this matter to get her back by his side, he still didn’t want to go back with him so easily. In his eyes, his husband had cast his wife aside to achieve his goals at all costs, which was undoubtedly the biggest blow to him, and this blow was not something that could be forgotten with a few words. If such wounds could be so easily forgotten, how could he have become so disheartened as to decide to leave his husband? Wasn’t all of this an inevitable ending? What are they doing this for, trying again and again to soften his heart, or is there another agenda?

Hearing no response from the other party, Zhang Zhentian knew that she was still somewhat hesitant, so he made another effort and said to his wife: ”No matter what prejudice you have against me now, I hope you can let go of all those prejudices and come back with me to be with my father. I know it’s my fault for those things in the past, and I didn’t even have the courage to stand out and take responsibility for my own mistakes. I am not a man, and I don’t deserve to be your husband. But now I understand that as a man, the minimum requirement is to have accountability. One must be willing to take responsibility. If one doesn’t have accountability, they don’t deserve to be called a man, much less your husband!

The mistakes I made shouldn’t be paid for by my father. Those mistakes were mine alone, so why should my father take the blame for me? He doesn’t owe me anything. On the contrary, I now realize that my son made a good point. My dad doesn’t owe me anything. Rather, I owe him many things. The love he has for me is something I never appreciated. I took his love for granted, never once considering why he would go to such lengths for me. It wasn’t until today that I realized his love for me expected no repayment. It was wholehearted, just hoping for me to grow up happy and have the life I want. Even if I wander the world and refuse to stay by his side, he accepts it. For him, he just wants his son and grandson to be safe and healthy. He wants nothing else. Seeing his loved ones smile every day is what satisfies him. With such a father, I have no way to repay him in this lifetime. He has given me too much love, and I have always repaid it with hurt. I really don’t understand how heartless I used to be. My father loved me so much, and yet I was so ungrateful...

Deep down, you also feel that I am not worthy of being my father’s son. He gave me so much love, and I hurt her so much. Even though you haven’t said these words, I know what you think inside. Otherwise, how could we have been married for so many years?

In our current situation, I have no face to ask anything of you, but I beg you to make this last sacrifice for me. Considering how good my father has been to you, considering how he has protected you in every way, please go back to him and accompany him. For him, that would be enough!”

”Although you speak with righteous indignation, I feel pretty good about your words. But do you know something? You might move me, but you can’t change the fundamental facts. Ultimately, you need to take responsibility for the mistakes you made. Do you understand that you can’t just expect me to forgive all your wrongdoings just because you say a few casual words? All the mistakes you made in the past, can they just be erased because of a few words of regret from you? Honestly, I really can’t do it!

I don’t even understand why you would suddenly say these things to me now. Have you thought about it? If you really had this mindset earlier, and you realized you were wrong, then how could you say such heartless words to your father, causing her to get so upset she ended up in the hospital? Maybe, in your heart, your father is nowhere near as important as your interests. Now you come and tell me you care about your father—is that a joke?

While I understand that exposing the lies beneath your mask makes you feel humiliated and embarrassed, Zhang Zhentian, I tell you this: things have progressed to this point, and no matter what intentions you have now, I hope you rein them in completely. Any improper thoughts should be killed in the cradle as soon as possible, otherwise, you will truly regret it for the rest of your life. Your father isn’t a tool for you to use to bring me back. If he knew what you’re doing, how sad would he be inside, knowing he is seriously ill in the hospital and you are still taking advantage of him?”

Xia Jing simply wouldn’t believe a word Zhang Zhentian said because he knew Zhang Zhentian’s personality too well. That kind of person doesn’t immediately change their ways upon realizing their mistakes. Every word he says has a purpose. Over the years, he has thoroughly figured out all his ex-husband’s living habits and speech patterns. He won’t be as foolish as before, believing everything his husband said.

Every time he gave all his trust wholeheartedly, the end result always made him so sad. He couldn’t achieve any grand and noble gesture, knowing that every contribution would eventually result in pain, yet he went ahead without hesitation. He thought that if he gave his heart, his husband would see his good side some day. But now he realized it was all an impossible dream. In his husband’s eyes, his good traits were invisible.

”Actually, sometimes I think you’re quite shameless. Your father has become like this, yet you refused to stay by her side to accompany her, unwilling to visit him in the hospital. But to get me to return to your side, you actually used your father as an excuse. I really don’t know how sad dad would be if he knew, raising such an ungrateful child who bites the hand that feeds. If he knew how upsetting it would be for him, his once beloved son gradually using his own father step by step!”

All my hopes were pinned on that, but in the end, I didn’t get the result I wanted.
