My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1856: Chapter 1650: Equality

A person’s life is always balanced; the more you give, the more you can expect in return. Don’t let your life become monotonous.

Zhang Zhentian did not know the kind of thoughts nestled deep in his father’s heart. He thought his father should be happy about everything. He believed that returning to this home would be the happiest thing for his father in this lifetime, yet he didn’t expect his return made them despise him even more.

”Dad, I know that perhaps deep down inside, you think my return is a sign of weakness. But I can frankly tell you that, no matter what, I have absolutely no intention of feeling lost. I just want to stay safely in this home; I just want every member of the family to genuinely regard me as family. The harm I caused you all, perhaps there’s no way to make up for it in this life. I have sincerely apologized to you many times. No matter what, you all still refuse, deep in your hearts, to accept me as family. I don’t understand what I mean to you, nor do I understand what this means.”

”I have repeatedly stated that I am your son; no matter what, I am willing to stay by your side and take care of you. Regardless of your opinion of me, staying by your side proves I still have the opportunity to honor you. The harm I caused you once, I can only use the rest of my life to compensate you. I want to return all the love, care, and attention I owe you—I’ll stay by your side and won’t hesitate to toil for you!”

”Why bother, if you knew this day would come? Why did you decisively choose to leave? Do you realize, when you left, the family worried sick about you? You never regarded us as people to truly live with; you always tried to take advantage of your friends, thinking family is easy to exploit. You believed the family can be easily hurt without any complaint, yet you forgot, family are humans, not gods!

Zhentian, you’re not young anymore. As a father, I shouldn’t repeatedly tell you the same thing; it only wounds your pride. You know? Some things cannot be easily forgotten. Think about all the choices you once made—was there any you didn’t regret?

Deep inside, you resent how we cruelly shut you out back then; you can’t let it go, yet choose to say nothing. I don’t know how to approach this with you, or if your tolerance is amazing or if you’re just deeply concealed!”

”Dad, I’ve explained multiple times; I never felt resentful about being forced to leave. I’ve never held a grudge about being shut out by you. Saying that I don’t harbor resentment proves I truly don’t hold grudges. No matter what, you’re my father; everything I brought upon you was my mistake!

Even if returning to this home again means you’d still shut me out, I understand. No matter how you treat me, I willingly accept it because you’re my father. Just like you said, I’m your son; this blood relationship can’t be severed. Maybe this bond makes you sad, makes you feel we’re not worthy of being your son or living here with you. But we’ve sincerely acknowledged our mistakes. I believe, in the future, you’ll see the consequences we’ve faced for our poor choices!”

”You don’t have to do this. Over the years, I haven’t done anything for you, and you don’t need to repay me now. We still have no real relationship. Even if you’re my son, it means nothing; when you left, our father-son connection was severed!

I won’t ever forget the moment you cruelly turned away, that departing figure. You didn’t look back; you had no attachment to this home. You walked away carefree, abandoning everything here. I thought you’d never return in this lifetime, but I didn’t expect you’d beg to come back!

To admit, if it wasn’t for your car accident, for seeing your son who touched some compassion in me, for allowing you to heal peacefully, I wouldn’t have agreed to let you come back home.

The mistakes you made, I can never forgive in this lifetime. Why make yourself so miserable repeatedly, begging for our forgiveness, don’t you think you’re living too humbly?

A real man should live uprightly. How can you kneel for trivial things, shed tears for minor frustrations? Men don’t easily cry, do you think you’re still a man now?

When you humbled yourself, knelt down, begged us for forgiveness to return home, my view of you vanished. You don’t deserve my high regard; you’re not even one-tenth of your son, who reached the pinnacle on his own effort. You can’t!

He never begged for anything, and you... have you ever begged anyone? Do you really lack the awareness of yourself? Do you believe that begging others makes you their most important person? It actually doesn’t.

You’d give everything for your wife; I understand, because everyone is passionate, has experienced it—such feelings cannot be easily abandoned. Yet, it doesn’t mean your mistakes can be excused for this reason. For your wife’s sake, don’t you feel it’s too unfair? You pushed all responsibilities onto her.

I know you want to take responsibility, but you ultimately didn’t take that step, because deep down, you think it shouldn’t be all on you, it should be shared. That’d be fair...” The once declared ideal to the world, is now lost!
