My Alleged Husband

Chapter 532: Chapter 511: Please Show Mercy_1

Zhang Zhentian was still unwilling to let it go, to let Xia Jing slip away like that. He wanted to make one last effort, no matter how slim the chance of success could be, infinitesimal even, but he couldn’t just give up on her easily. He reached out and took hold of Xia Jing’s hand, ”Can you give me another chance? I only need one more chance. If I waste this chance, then whatever decision you make, I’ll support and respect you unconditionally. So, please, trust me once more, believe that this time, I truly want to be with you, believe that this time, I absolutely can accomplish everything I’ve promised you. I can tell you candidly that I don’t want much now; I just hope to be with you. Are you really going to crush even this small wish of mine?”

”If you had already decided to let go, why keep pestering and clinging to the other person?”

”If you had already agreed to live the lives you both wanted separately, why continue to pester and hurt everyone with your decisions?”

”If you knew this day would come, why did you do those things that hurt our relationship in the past? You destroyed by your own hands the family that could have been happy forever. What right do you have now to beg for my forgiveness? I won’t stay for someone like you, that would only cause me pain. My love for you has long disappeared, vanishing the moment you abandoned me, which sealed the fate of today. When you abandoned me, you should have foreseen that such a day would inevitably come!”

Zhang Zhentian was completely deaf to what Xia Jing was saying to him; he just obstinately believed that no matter what decisions he made, his wife should support and respect him. But why was this so different from what he had imagined and was he really doomed to live his life alone?

”I can’t believe that you could completely erase from your mind those loving moments we once shared,”

”I can’t believe that you can still remain indifferent to my once all-out efforts for you. I refuse to believe that everything could actually turn out this way. I only believe that your feelings for me wouldn’t change so easily. Your love for me back then was genuine, not something feigned. Love from the heart, how could it just be forgotten? Is it because I hurt you that you choose to treat me this way? Don’t you think this is truly cruel? I am not that kind of person. Can’t you give me a little more time to turn over a new leaf, to be by your side, to be your lifelong support?”

”Maybe in your eyes, my support is dispensable because you are strong, you don’t care about having a dependable man. But I care, and I only hope that my shoulder can offer you a place to lean, to bring you warmth when you’re sad, and let you feel that, at least, there’s someone by your side silently supporting you, watching over you. That’s enough for me. But you’ve never given me such a chance; you always act so strong, keeping others at a distance. Because of this, everyone thinks no matter what happens, you won’t be hurt the most, depicting you as a powerful woman who won’t cry regardless of how others treat you. But that’s not true. You feel the pain too; you are a woman who longs for a warm embrace, a happy haven... ”

It must be admitted that every word Zhang Zhentian said made sense. If it were in the past, Xia Jing might have been moved by these words, but not anymore. She had completely lost faith in her husband. A marriage without trust simply cannot last. What she wanted was only a life she desired. No matter what, she didn’t care; at least she had loved fiercely. She had given her all for this man, but in the end, he callously abandoned her. That kind of blow was like a calamity in life. How could she just give up so easily? How could she so readily forget all the hurt?

It wasn’t that she had forgotten, but that she chose not to speak of it. She decided to keep the pain inside, not letting others feel it. To others, it always seemed she was so strong that no matter how much she was hurt, she would never shed a tear because of the pain inflicted on her. But was that really the case? She was also a woman; all she wanted was a simple, happy life, but such a life was far too difficult for her because no one had ever contemplated any issue from her perspective. She had always relied on her own strength and resilience, taking one step at a time to get where she is today. Who knew how much effort and pain she had endured to reach this point?

”Do you really think I’ve forgotten the pain you caused me? It’s not like that. I haven’t forgotten any of the hurt you inflicted on me, I’ve just buried it all in my heart, choosing to remain silent. Because if we have already chosen to be strangers, why should we let each other know the pain in our hearts? The pain you’ve inflicted on me will never be forgotten; it’s a lifelong, gut-wrenching pain I never want to recall. So please, I beg of you, stop this. Do you think what you’re doing is meaningful? By persistently keeping me by your side, you’re only subjecting me to a life of torment. If you truly love me, if you still have a shred of affection for me, then please let me go, don’t make me suffer any more than I already have!”

”I wish I could let go too, but my heart truly can’t do without you. How can I let go of you and find peace in myself? Indeed, what I am doing is selfish. I know I should never have abandoned you; I have already been punished and have accepted the retribution I deserved. Can’t you forgive me just this once? Is it really that difficult?”
