My Alleged Husband

Chapter 522: Chapter 501 A Barrage of Scolding_1

Zhang Zhentian had never expected that his wife would become involved in this matter. He thought that no matter what happened to him, his wife would never step forward to speak on his behalf. Yet to his surprise, today she did speak out, but not to support him. Instead, she scolded him. He couldn’t understand what could be so important in her eyes that his wife would disregard him, a man who had once loved her so deeply. He also wanted to know what he had to do to win his wife back. All of this inner turmoil and pain was something he hoped he could escape from. He just wished for a life with the one he wanted, free from such anguish and heartache, yet it all seemed so difficult and impossible.

”Xia Jing, I don’t know on what basis you stand here and say these words to me. If you are here as my wife, then you have the right to say these things to me. If you’re not, then you have no right to speak to me like this. Do you not understand that I sacrificed everything for you? I was willing to pay any price just to have you by my side, and that was enough for me. But gradually, I discovered that you didn’t want to stay with me. What you wanted was something I couldn’t give you. When you first got together with me, I didn’t know why you did it, whether it was truly love or for some other purpose. I’m still clueless. I really don’t understand how we, who once loved each other so deeply, could have ended up like this. Is it just because I heartlessly abandoned you back then? I’ve explained to you before that it was a rash decision made in anger. If it were you, I believe you would never tolerate such a deceitful person by your side for a lifetime. Wouldn’t it be better to empathize with each other instead of letting our relationship become so strained? I really don’t ask for much; I just hope my wife could love me, treat me sincerely, and regard me as her most important person. Is that wrong? Perhaps you think I’m selfish, but who wouldn’t feel this way? There’s no husband who doesn’t want his wife to only have him in her heart. What I do is indeed selfish, but it’s all because of my love for you. Haven’t I done enough selfish things for the sake of our love? Why can’t you ever see my true feelings?”

”Is my sincere heart really so unworthy of even a glance from you, Xia Jing? Sometimes I really don’t understand. What kind of heart must I show you for you to believe that I truly love you? Do I have to tear it out and show it to you?”

I would do anything for you without any hesitation, just to make you happy. Do you know what a heavy price I paid just for your smile? To make sure you could live a happy life, I joined your Mercenary Group. I gave up all my father’s expectations for me and even abandoned my family for your sake. But what about you? In the end, this is how you treat me—with lies upon lies, wounding me deeply!

Xia Jing was rendered speechless by Zhang Zhentian’s words. She knew that everything he said was true; she had indeed been selfish. So what right did she have to criticize him? Was she standing here as his wife, speaking these harsh words to him, or in some other capacity? Even Xia Jing herself wasn’t sure.

In her heart, Xia Jing had always felt that whatever she did, her husband would see her as perfect and would not abandon her for her mistakes.

But in the end, Xia Jing was deeply disappointed. Not only had her husband left her because of her lies, but he also refused to reunite with her. After she pleaded time and time again, she finally realized there was no chance left with the man she loved most.

Just when Xia Jing felt disillusioned with her marriage, her husband came to her seeking reconciliation, leaving her feelings mixed. She didn’t know what to do. Little by little, she lost herself within, unsure of what was the right decision to make. She didn’t want to hurt the man she had once loved the most. She knew how much her husband loved her, a love that permeated deep into his bones, he who couldn’t bear to see her hurt. Yet, time and again, her lies had deeply wounded him.

”I am at a loss for words for everything you said today because every word you spoke is true. I am indeed selfish, far more so than you. It was my selfishness that has brought our relationship to this state!”

So many things are in the past now. Wouldn’t it be better to let them dissipate like smoke, scattered by the wind? Why keep bringing them up? Does constantly mentioning them genuinely bring us any happiness or joy? Don’t we each have things that we desire deep down? Don’t we?”

”I know I was a bit rash today. I shouldn’t have come here and started berating you. I shouldn’t have belittled you like that. Often, I feel inferior to you. I can’t handle things as well as you do. The decisions I make are without consideration of the consequences, but you always think of me. Despite that, I always take you for granted, rejecting your kindness time and time again. I know your heart aches, but sometimes I can’t help it. I’m just that kind of person. Falling in love with me was the biggest mistake of your life. You should never have married me, should never have abandoned your family for me. That was your biggest mistake, and perhaps your greatest regret, right?”

”No matter what I’ve done or said, I, Zhang Zhentian, have never regretted loving you. Whether I gave up my own family or stood up to my parents for you, in my eyes you were always the best. I will never regret it. Being able to marry you has been the greatest fortune of my life...”
