My Alleged Husband

Chapter 527: Chapter 506 Accept the Fact!_1

Xia Jing knew this was a golden opportunity not likely to come again; if she didn’t take the chance to make everything clear to her husband now, the situation would only worsen. She didn’t want things to reach that point, where she no longer had any control. So, while he was already stricken, it was time to strike while the iron was hot and lay everything out on the table. Perhaps this would be for the best outcome for him too.

”I know you don’t want to hear what I have to say right now, but I hope you realize that the decision I have made isn’t something I’ll just change lightly. Since you’ve made your choice today and done what you’ve done, you must take responsibility for the consequences. Have you ever thought, at the moment you abandoned me, you didn’t foresee today’s events coming to pass? Should I just return to your side because of a few apologies you’ve made? Why should I, after all? Is it because you’re more noble, or am I just too meek that you can ignore me every time you make a decision? I am not that kind of person, someone you can have or discard whenever you please. When I first decided to be with you, it meant I truly wanted to spend my life with you. But the moment you cold-heartedly abandoned me, I knew there was no chance for us to go back to how things were. Let’s not bring that up anymore. Shouldn’t we just follow our paths, without interfering in each other’s lives, and wouldn’t that be better than forcing everyone into such a passive position?”

Perhaps every word I say today is hard for you to accept, but these words are the truth, and you must learn to accept that truth. I really gave a lot for you, which everyone can clearly see, but what did I get in return? A husband’s heartless abandonment and lack of trust in me—is that what I deserve after all the years of emotional investment? I’m not that humble, I can’t be so pathetic that even the person I love the most doesn’t want to be with me, and yet I would still shamelessly cling to him. Why should I be subjected to these blows over and over again, and why should I take the blame for you and give up what I truly want every single time?”

You might think that like before, I could abandon everything for you and that I would still be the same in the end. But you’re sorely mistaken. I am not a Saint, and I will not keep making the same mistake, holding onto things that were wrong from the very start. I hope you can see the true nature of things. Everything now is futile, and it’s all cause by your own hands!”

You’ve always believed I loved you so much that I wouldn’t complain about giving my all for you. But did you ever really consider it? I once loved you to the point of madness, fearless of anything for your sake. But in the end, what I received was your rejection. I’m not some foolish woman who only knows how to give without knowing how to take. What I wanted was simply the basic trust from my own husband. Do you understand? But you couldn’t give me that trust. Now you can’t give me anything I want, so please, don’t tether me to your side, forcing me to accompany you through a lifetime of misery...”

Zhang Zhentian knew that this might truly be the time when he could no longer sway his wife’s heart. But he was not content—why, when he had set aside all his pride to come back and beg her, did she still have to cruelly reject him? Why must everything he does be so fruitless?

”Do you really have the heart to let dad see us like this? You should know how much he wishes for us to be together, how much he hopes I would bring you back home. For you, dad has given a lot. Now he’s critically ill in the hospital. If he sees his son’s marriage unhappy, his family joyless, do you think he can rest contentedly and recuperate in peace? Don’t you think that’s akin to pushing him towards death? If you really care about me at all, please make one more compromise. Even if you put forward any demand, I will agree. I can stay away from you in our home, not share a bed with you, I won’t ask for any support from you. I only want you to stay by my side, even if it’s just a little!”

In the end, she still couldn’t accept the reality that her wife should be back by his side, thinking that no matter what happened, one shouldn’t give up so easily. But he didn’t understand that a woman whose heart has turned to ash cannot be easily coaxed back with a few words. He didn’t realize the depths of a woman’s heart, and he couldn’t comprehend that once a woman is deeply hurt, it’s tough to heal. He felt that his contribution should surely result in return, but is that the reality? Everyone gives, but it wasn’t only him who gave. Yet, he always thought his sacrifices were the most selfless, the greatest—why? Does everyone else owe him something?

”You’re too full of yourself. Do you really think we don’t know about everything you’ve done? Do you really believe your contributions were the greatest? Do you really think that because you’ve given, I must return with you to the family home?

Don’t think of me as the kind of woman who is easily deceived. I won’t quickly renege on the decisions I’ve made, not even for the person I once loved the most. You have truly broken my heart. You have no other path to take now but to choose to accept the reality—that I will never be with you again in this lifetime, nor will I return to your side. If you have any conscience left, then please treat our father well. He has genuinely devoted himself to us. As you said, he doesn’t wish to see our family divided. If you don’t want his condition to worsen, don’t let him find out about this. If you truly consider him your father, then care for him and fulfill your responsibilities as a son!”

Zhang Zhentian finally understood; he now had no other choice but to accept the reality—that he had completely lost the woman he once loved most, his wife. How could he bear such a blow?
