My Alleged Husband

Chapter 517: Chapter 496 Critical Illness_1

Zhang Yichen didn’t want to say much to his father, so he left and returned home. He felt that his father had changed and was no longer the man he once knew; he had become numb and unfeeling, acting ruthlessly. He couldn’t allow such a father to stay by Grandpa’s side, for that would only lead to deeper hurt for the old man.

Zhentian, seeing his own son unwilling to talk to him, knew he might have gone too far this time. He always acted without thinking things through. If only he had considered his actions more carefully, maybe things wouldn’t always turn out so badly. Why couldn’t he learn to think before acting, to avoid repeatedly hurting others? Was his position of authority such a joy to him that it warranted hurting them to this extent? He didn’t desire much, yet in the end, he still hurt those who loved him the most.

Ran Zhihan was saddened to learn about the conflict between her husband, her grandfather, and her father-in-law. Although the matter wasn’t directly related to her, she knew full well that ever since ”that incident,” her husband refused to share a bed with her. He felt betrayed, as wife who had deceived him, denying him even the most basic trust and respect, which weighed heavily on his heart. She often couldn’t understand why she had taken matters into her own hands. If she had informed her husband or spoken to the adults about it, could things have turned out differently? Maybe if she had told Grandpa at the time, the current chaos could have been avoided. The fallout from her momentary selfishness was significant, but did she really deserve the blame? She had made a mistake in an effort to protect him, which in his eyes was unforgivable betrayal. Why was everyone’s definition of betrayal so different? In her eyes, as long as he hadn’t cheated, it wasn’t betrayal. She could excuse and forgive his words without hesitation, but why couldn’t he see things from her perspective?

She went to look for Grandpa in the study, but Old Master Zhang was not there. So, she quickly headed to Old Master Zhang’s bedroom. She knocked on the door, but when no one answered after a long time, she began to worry. Could Grandpa have fallen asleep inside or could something have happened? Fearing the worst, she forced the lock open with a tool. Upon entering, she was horrified to find Grandpa collapsed on the floor, his face deathly pale. She immediately called an ambulance and had Old Master Zhang rushed to the hospital. After resuscitation efforts by the doctors, they concluded that Old Master Zhang had suffered a heart attack. They previously were unaware that Old Master Zhang had a heart condition, and he had never noticed any problems with his heart. This time, his heart attack was triggered by surging anger that caused distress trapped in his heart, unable to dissipate.

Ran Zhihan quickly relayed the news to Zhang Yichen. Initially, Yichen didn’t want to take her call, but he thought it could be about an emergency he shouldn’t miss because of a missed call. In the end, he decided to answer. Hearing from his wife that Grandpa was critically ill in the hospital, he was deeply worried and drove to the hospital as fast as a plane.

”Zhihan, how’s Grandpa? Tell me how he is. Grandpa never had heart disease. How could he suddenly suffer a heart attack now? What else is there that I don’t know? Tell me quickly, I’m really worried about Grandpa!”

”Yichen, don’t panic. I’m telling you, Grandpa collapsed at home. I went looking for him and found the door locked, which seemed off. I thought maybe Grandpa was asleep, but when I finally forced the lock open and entered, I found Grandpa on the ground. I called an ambulance and took him to the hospital. The doctors managed to resuscitate him and found he had a sudden heart attack, and he is currently in critical condition. They said this time it was due to extreme distress, with frustration accumulating in his heart and not being released in time, causing the heart attack. Moreover, Grandpa can’t undergo any more stress or worry about other matters in the future, or his heart disease could recur. If the rescue was timely, there’s no problem this time, but the next might not be so certain, so we have to take good care of Grandpa...”

”How could this happen? Grandpa never had heart disease, and his heart has always been healthy. He never mentioned having a heart condition. Why then, did he suddenly have a heart attack? What caused such a drastic change?” As soon as Yichen said this, he immediately realized that this must have something to do with his ”good” father. If his father hadn’t stubbornly refused to come home, how could Grandpa have been so enraged? If his father hadn’t repeatedly rejected Grandpa’s kindness, Grandpa wouldn’t be in the hospital now suffering from a heart attack. He truly didn’t know how to describe his father at this moment; the man had become so different from the father he knew before.

At that moment, he silently made up his mind; he decided he would never forgive his biological father in his lifetime. His father could hurt anyone, hurt him without reason, but he would not allow anyone to hurt Grandpa. He didn’t blame his father for the many wrongs he had done, nor for the many times he had been hurt, but he specifically blamed his father for hurting Grandpa. Anyone who hurt Old Master Zhang would never be forgivable in his heart!

Zhang Yichen sent a message to Zhentian: ”Now, as you wished, Grandpa is critically ill. If it’s because of you that Grandpa is like this now, then I hope you remember, no matter what happens, Grandpa doesn’t need your concern. Your refusal led to Grandpa’s heart attack, you’ve hurt the one who treated me the best, the one who loved me the most. Thus, from today onwards, you and I have no relationship. If anything happens to Grandpa again, I’ll never forgive you, and neither will anyone else. If you can hurt your own father to such an extent, it just shows how cruel your heart is...
