My Alleged Husband

Chapter 530: Chapter 509 Let’s be friends!_1

Xia Jing felt that she now held no expectations for her husband. The high hopes she once had were destroyed by his own hands; what right did she have to hold any expectations now?

If Zhang Zhentian hadn’t disappointed her from the start, she might have given him another chance now. If he hadn’t ruthlessly abandoned her at the beginning, she wouldn’t have ended up like this, hounded at every step until everything devolved into the present state. None of this could be blamed on anyone else—the fault lay with them both, for choosing a road no one else would take. Why fault them for walking a path they selected themselves?

When Zhang Zhentian heard his ex-wife say she wanted to be friends, he was utterly unable to accept it. It was the last thing he wanted to see. He didn’t want friendship; he wanted to spend a lifetime with her. Was that really too much to ask? Why wouldn’t they agree to even this modest request, insisting on stirring up the current strife? What did all of this mean in their eyes?

”Do you think I, Zhang Sheng Tian, am the kind of person to submit to adversity? Do you think I will just comply with all your arrangements? I certainly will not let your wish come true!

I know I have no right to talk of love with you, and I realize I have no reason to keep you by my side, but I hope you remember, no matter what, you will always be mine—a fact that cannot be changed for a lifetime. Now, you only have two choices, either choose to remarry me, or let me keep on harassing you incessantly!

Out of these two options, you can only choose one. If you have any sense, please choose the one that is best for both of us. Don’t make me chase after you every day. It’s annoying for you and tiring for me!”

”If you feel tired, then stop following me, stop harassing me. Don’t you know that such actions make me very annoyed? You’re aware that your behavior annoys me and tires you, so why not give each other a chance to live the easy and happy life we want? Why drag each other down into a pit of suffering? Is this the outcome you want to see? Can’t you stand to see me happy in your eyes?

Ah, sometimes I can’t even believe it myself—we once lived together so happily, yet in the end, we’ve turned it into this. We can’t blame anyone else but ourselves. We chose different paths, and the one we’re on is bound to leave us battered and bruised. As we’ve chosen this path, we ought to keep going, no matter what difficulties we face. Isn’t that right? Why choose to give up halfway through? Are you the kind of person who quits when things get tough?

I can scarcely believe we’ve come to this, and even less can you. I once had such great expectations for our life together. I even thought that as long as I was with you, it didn’t matter how much I gave up. But I eventually realized it was all impossible because your actions deeply hurt me. In your eyes, I’m someone you could easily do without, someone whose sincere feelings you could harm without a second thought. Since that’s how you feel, why do you still debase yourself, asking me to come back to you? Wouldn’t that cause you even more pain?”

”No matter what you say to me today, I will absolutely not follow your plans. I’m a person, not a pet that takes everything lying down. I’m a living human being with my own thoughts. Can’t I do what I want to do? I can’t force you to stay by my side, but I can make sure I’m always there, pestering you. That way, neither of us will have peace, and I’ll be happy to live a life of misery with you rather than let you live happily on your own!

Maybe you feel disillusioned by the decision I’ve made, even thinking it’s extreme and obsessive. But do you understand? The happiness we once had was easily destroyed by me. How could my heart not be tormented? While I suffered inside, you thought of wandering the world, living the life you wanted. Do you think I’d allow such a thing to happen? I will never let that happen between us!

You say you want to be friends with me—I will never agree to that. We were once husband and wife, once lovers, and we went from lovers to spouses, sharing a bed for over a decade. Do you think I can just let you give up that easily? I absolutely cannot do it.

My love for you is witnessed by heaven and earth, clear as the sun and the moon, known by all. I can’t do anything to hurt you. Divorcing you was a last resort—I was driven to wit’s end by your lies. Not once could I bear it. What I cared about most was your reassurance, and yet you gambled with your safety. If the roles were reversed, could you still feel balanced inside? Could you remain indifferent, pretending to hear and see nothing? Could you really be so heartless and watch the person you love the most suffer the consequences of their own bet?”

After thinking it over, Xia Jing believed she couldn’t have borne such a thing happening to her either. But ultimately, everything was coming to pass, none of it being what she wanted. All she desired was a carefree, happy life—was that asking for too much? Just one simple thing: happiness for her family, a blissful life. But, in the end, her wish went unfulfilled.

”I think being friends is the best ending for us... If we don’t want to completely break each other’s hearts, we should let go, take a step back because you should understand, if we keep this up, it will only hurt both of us, won’t it?”
