My Alleged Husband

Chapter 501: Chapter 480: Where Are the Rules?_1

Zhang Ni never expected his own father’s fury to turn towards him. He had just wanted to come in and be a mediator, why was that so difficult? And could it really be so wrong to try to persuade his parents to stop quarrelling? Now to top it all off, his father was blaming him, accusing him of having no principles, saying that all the books he’d read these days had been for nothing. If his father knew what he’d done, he was sure his father would beat him to death. He truly didn’t understand why his parents had to argue. They could live happily, yet they chose to spend their days in endless bickering. Could their lives really be that boring?

”Dad, do you have to be so fierce with me? You’ve scared me. I saw you and mom arguing for such a long time without stopping, and that’s why I came in without knocking. No one taught me to do this. In my haste, I may have forgotten all about these principles, but from now on, I’ll definitely bear them firmly in mind. Whenever I enter or leave your home, I will knock on the door!”

”You dare to lie that no one taught you? If no one did, how could you brazenly push open the door of my bedroom? I’m telling you I won’t let this go. Who put you up to this? You better make things clear before you speak. All these long-standing rules, you haven’t taken any of them to heart. So why bother learning them at all? Who was it that once vowed to me, assuring me that you would prove yourself, that you would show your grandparents just how capable you are? But the promise you gave solemnly, are these the things you promised? Where is your oath? Where is your courage? Where is your manhood, hiding and stuttering when you’ve done wrong, trying to shirk all responsibility? Do you think this is the behavior befitting a man? You simply don’t deserve to be my son. I’ve lived my life openly and honorably. How could I have a son like you? How long exactly were you eavesdropping outside the door? Was it because you heard us arguing for so long that you felt compelled to push open the bedroom door without even knocking? Do you think this is the way to act as our son? Without even the most basic manners, I’ve really overestimated you. From today onwards, you’re confined to the house to reflect on your actions. Without my permission, no one is allowed to let you out. If you dare escape, you’re not to return home for the rest of your life. I mean what I say this time. If you think I’m joking, go ahead and try me. I’m dead serious when I say this to you!” Zhang Yichen was livid with his son, feeling as if his head was on fire from the stress. Why did his son have to meddle and make things worse? Could it be that he and his mother had conspired this?

Zhang Ni was startled by the harsh words his father spoke. His father had never spoken to him with such severity before, and now here he was, being confined to the house, forbidden to go out. It seemed that his mother really had made his father angry, and this time it wasn’t something he could resolve. Now unable to go out, what was he to do? Could he sneak out? Seeing the look in his father’s eyes he knew his father was truly angry, not joking. Any other time he might have risked sneaking out, but not today. If he tried to leave today, his father would surely be furious. Before doing anything, he had to think it through, or else he’d really be in big trouble with his father, who absolutely would not let this pass easily.

”Yichen, the child isn’t at fault. Why must you punish him? This is my mistake. Why are you taking it out on him? He just heard us arguing and wanted to check in out of concern. Isn’t that allowed? If he heard his own parents arguing and remained indifferent, what right would he have to be my son? Why are you erupting with fury now, anyway?”

”Don’t you know why? It’s to make you admit your mistake openly and straightforwardly. I might as well tell you, no matter what cunning little tricks you use, even if you drag my grandfather into this, I will deal with it just as strictly. At such a young age, instead of learning good things, he learned to eavesdrop from around the corner. He thinks I didn’t know he was listening all this time before he came in. But he doesn’t realize I knew there was someone outside the door all along. I thought it might’ve been Grandpa, so I chose to say nothing because I couldn’t imagine Grandpa meddling in my private affairs without reason. But I never expected it’d be my own son sneaking in to listen to his parents’ conversation. I absolutely cannot allow such behavior in my house. Eavesdropping is eavesdropping and the punishment cannot be spared. He likes to eavesdrop, does he? I’ll punish him by making him stay at home, confined, not allowed to set foot outside the door. Let’s see what he does then. Such a capable person, try escaping like before — if he dares try to run, he’ll never be my son again, and he won’t ever set foot in the Zhang Family house. I mean every word!”

Zhang Ni knew he’d been caught in the crossfire this time, never anticipating that the relationship between his parents could become so tense. If he hadn’t rashly pushed the door open, maybe his parents wouldn’t have continued their standoff, and he wouldn’t have gotten dragged into this, condemned to house arrest. It was a reminder that he needed to think more carefully before acting, to consider whether he should even do something, or else he might be confined at home, never to leave again. Maybe he was just cursed with bad luck, always acting without thought, letting unfortunate events happen to him. Now here he was, locked at home by his father, wondering what he should do.

”You don’t need to think about going out, because you aren’t going anywhere. I’ll confiscate anything that could help you leave! Just stay home contentedly, and don’t even think about going out...”
