My Alleged Husband

Chapter 529: Chapter 508: Demand (Part 2)_1

”Even such a small request from me, and you can’t grant it, can you dare to say that your heart still loves me the same as before? I knew I had really wronged you in the past, but you should understand that every decision I made at that time was out of necessity. Is it really so unforgivable in your heart? Is it that difficult for you to forgive me just once? What exactly do I have to do for you to come back to me?” Zhang Zheng was nearly dying of anger as he roared out these words. He couldn’t bear such an outcome; he just wanted his wife back by his side. Why did it seem so difficult in his eyes? Could such a tiny request also be so hard for his wife to accept?

”I really don’t know what to say to you. The person who heartlessly wanted to leave me was you, and the person who coldly discarded me was you. Now you come to me with these words; do you think they have any meaning? Don’t you feel ashamed speaking this way? The one who has made mistakes over and over is not me. The one who is made to be the scapegoat is not me; it’s you. You’ve thrown me towards the cliff again and again, and you’ve made me pay the price for you again and again, but what was the result you gave me in the end? Abandonment, injury, or was it some greater benefit or advantage you brought to me?

Do you not have any account of what you’ve done inside? What makes you think you have the right to make me pay for your mistakes over and over? I’m not your slave. All I want is a simple, happy life, which to you seems anything but easy. I really don’t ask for much, but why can’t you satisfy my humble requests? What right do you have now to demand that I fulfill your requests?

People live by placing themselves in others’ shoes, don’t they? The kind of treatment you give me is the kind of response you’ll receive. It’s always been this way. You’ve hurt me again and again. How do you expect me to keep forgiving you, to be your scapegoat, to be manipulated by you? The pains of the past I don’t want to talk about anymore. Our mutual history should have been long forgotten. Why must we make our hearts suffer this much hardship? All I want is to live a peaceful life. Now, since you can’t give me that life, then please let go. Stop harassing me. This endless haranguing is really tiring me out...” Xia Jing, too, was truly breaking down. She didn’t know how she could make her ex-husband understand the torment in her heart. He just kept coming back again and again, ensuring she could never truly leave him. Was this the outcome he wanted? Was this him wanting to see them both in excruciating pain? She really didn’t understand what she had to do to put an end to this farce and not let it drag on endlessly like now.

”Listen to me, no matter what, I will absolutely not give up on you or let you leave me. You either agree to my request and come back to me—I promise not to touch you, I promise to let you live freely as you wish, just having a nominal marital tie with me is enough. But if you persist in severing all ties with me, then I don’t mind making a complete break with you. To me, making a fuss or not with you doesn’t make much difference. What I want is very little, just like you said, you want to live a stable and quiet life, and I just want a life filled with happiness with you. Is such a life really that hard to achieve, accept, and realize in our eyes? Can’t we both give each other an out? Why push each other to a dead-end? Do you think you can live happily and safely without me, yet without you, I can only live in unbearable pain? You still have me in your heart; can you truly bear to see the husband you once loved most living in torment, going crazy every day?”

It must be said that Zhang Zhentian’s words really struck a chord with Xia Jing. How could she bear to see her husband live in torment, going mad with pain? He was the man she once loved most, the one who could forsake everything for her. What difficulty would there be this time? Yet she was truly torn over which path to choose so she would not regret it later.

”I really don’t know how to talk to you anymore. What I’ve said to you has been clear and straightforward. If you insist on dragging me into suffering with you, then I’m at a loss. But I have no reason at all to agree to your request. You hurt me so deeply once; I cannot possibly agree to such a demand. To me, your request only makes you seem like a petty, narrow-minded person.

Actually, I’m not as perfect as you think, as good as you believe. Perhaps you see me as perfect now, but it’s just a facade. One day when you discover the ugliness within me, you’ll abandon me again. So please don’t hurt me again; I won’t give you another chance to do so. If you hurt me a second time, maybe you’ll feel happy, but I will be in agony. Can you bear to see the wife who’s shared your bed for so many years living in pain by your side, when all this is because of you?

You must admit, you have a kind heart, but your kindness shouldn’t be used as capital to threaten others, should it? I loved you; that was my love for you. That love vanished at the moment you abandoned me, never to return. Why do you continue this way? You’re only making me feel that you’re incredibly petty, capable of taking on burdens but never letting go!

Love should be like this: When you hold someone dear, you should cherish them without a shred of doubt. And when you’ve abandoned them, you shouldn’t shamelessly think of chasing them back. It doesn’t make you seem useful; it only shows you’ll never get over that person. I will never agree to your requests. I hope you won’t make such unreasonable demands again, or we won’t even be able to be friends. I believe such an outcome is not what either of us wants to see. We should still be good friends to each other...”
