My Alleged Husband

Chapter 249: Chapter 229: Li Jiayuan Visits!_1

Li Jiayuan learned from her three sons that her favorite little girl had been hurt by the sister she recognized and was hospitalized. She was a bit baffled at the time. She remembered telling Xia Jing so much, asking her not to trouble the girl again, especially since Xia Jing’s son had also repeatedly asked her to take good care of the little girl. But now, she had failed to keep her promise. Ran Zhihan was injured and in the hospital, and she was completely unaware. How could she face her nephew?

If Li Jiayuan had remained completely ignorant of this matter, she might have avoided visiting the hospital. But now that she was aware, she felt that she should visit Ran Zhihan no matter what, as it was the responsibility of an aunt toward the future wife of her nephew.

Upon arriving at the hospital and pushing open the door of the ward, Li Jiayuan saw Old Master Zhang still accompanying Ran Zhihan. She silently sighed for Xia Jing, realizing how dearly Old Master Zhang loved this little girl, and that this hospitalization was all due to Xia Jing’s actions. For Xia Jing to hope to return to the Zhang family again was incredibly difficult. Li Jiayuan had never considered Xia Jing’s situation, and now she felt that no matter what, Xia Jing definitely should not have harmed this girl whom everyone liked. Perhaps in Xia Jing’s heart, she always blamed the girl for preventing her reunion with her son and for her son’s lack of recognition, but in everyone else’s eyes, the son’s rejection was entirely due to her past abandonment. Yet, Xia Jing had never thought about her own faults.

Old Master Zhang turned his head, noticing Li Jiayuan standing at the doorway. He knew she had come to visit his future granddaughter-in-law. His impression of Li Jiayuan had been improving. He was very clear that for the past few months, while his granddaughter-in-law had been staying in the United States, it was in Li Jiayuan’s house that she had received much care, and he was very grateful for it. However, this did not mean he would allow Li Jiayuan to side with Xia Jing in harming his granddaughter-in-law; that was something he could not tolerate.

”Uncle, so you’re here too. I came to see how Zhihan is doing. Is she feeling any better? You don’t mind me coming here, do you?” Li Jiayuan said playfully, smiling at Old Master Zhang.

Why would Old Master Zhang not welcome her? He was truly grateful for Li Jiayuan’s help. He saw her as if she were his own daughter. He knew that if Xia Jing hadn’t been involved, the woman standing before him would have been his daughter-in-law. Fate really played tricks on people; it had made her the wife of Xia Jing’s brother, and it was this very reason that he had been forced to accept Xia Jing and Zhang Zhentian’s relationship. Sometimes, he regretted why he had agreed to their union, but on the other hand, he felt that if the two hadn’t been so determined to be together, he wouldn’t have acquired such an outstanding grandson. Thinking this way, Old Master Zhang’s unease settled down to contentment.

”What are you saying, uncle? How could I not welcome you? I must thank you for taking care of my future granddaughter-in-law these past few months!”

Hearing the tone of Old Master Zhang’s remark, Li Jiayuan understood that he had already accepted Ran Zhihan as Zhang Yichen’s wife in his heart.

”Uncle, there are some things I would like to talk to Zhihan about in private. Would you mind stepping out for a moment?”

”Of course, you two chat first!”

Old Master Zhang turned and walked out of the hospital room.

”Auntie, please just tell me directly whatever you want to say. I know you came today out of goodwill to visit me. I’m already fine now, thank you for your concern. It’s just that I caused you too much trouble in the United States!”

Ran Zhihan was such a polite girl, even though the person who had been hurt was herself, she still graciously thanked others. It was precisely because of this that people liked her so much. But at the same time, it was also for this reason that Xia Jing hated her to the bone; she felt that Ran Zhihan’s demeanor was all an act.

”Zhihan, don’t be so formal with me. It was my fault for not taking good care of you, which led to your great injury. I came here today for two reasons. First, to see how well you have recovered, and second, Auntie wants to ask what you plan to do in the future?” Li Jiayuan eventually voiced her own doubts. She knew it was not appropriate to ask such a question, but she genuinely liked this girl and did not want to see Ran Zhihan get hurt over and over again.

”Auntie, to tell the truth, after this incident, I’ve seen a lot of things clearly. I’ve always said that I can’t let my parents suffer any harm because of my personal feelings, but today, my parents almost lost their lives because of my private emotions. This pain is heartfelt, and it’s going to cast a large shadow over me. Maybe I’ll never be able to step out of this shadow for the rest of my life. Actually, I really don’t hate Yichen’s mother. I know that she truly loves Yichen very much, but her way of expressing love for Yichen was just the wrong way, which caused one misunderstanding after another. This can’t be blamed on her. She is also a mother, and I can understand what a mother feels for her son, how painful it is that even though her son is right in front of her, he won’t call out ’mom’. So I don’t blame her, and I won’t let anyone pursue her criminal responsibility. At the same time, I will persuade Yichen to forgive her and let her return to the Zhang family. But Yichen and I really can’t be together anymore!”

Li Jiayuan listened to Ran Zhihan’s words and did not understand why she made such a decision.

”Actually, I don’t understand why you would make such a decision. Since you’ve already been through life and death together, what is there that you can’t overcome together?”

”I really don’t want to leave him, but because of my presence, the misunderstanding between him and his mother has become so deep. It’s also because of my appearance that I turned their originally happy family life upside down, which troubles my conscience greatly. Moreover, because of me, my parents almost lost their lives. Do you understand? When I saw that dagger directly stabbing towards my parents’ hearts, I almost forgot how to breathe. My instinct was that I couldn’t let my parents suffer any harm because of me; I could only use my body to block it. At that moment, even if I screamed, it would have been useless. She was very close to my parents. Perhaps in her eyes, she wanted me to watch as my parents lost their lives because of me. If the one stabbed in the heart by that dagger wasn’t me but my parents, I would never forgive myself for the rest of my life; and I wouldn’t forgive her either. I don’t care if she looks down on me time and time again if she comes to hurt me over and over, and insults me. But I care if she hurts my parents. No one can harm me except my parents. Anyone who hurts my parents, including Zhang Yichen, is not allowed. How can I bear to see the parents who raised me for over a decade lose their precious lives because of my personal feelings? Would I be worthy of them? Worthy of their nurturing grace?”
