My Alleged Husband

Chapter 207: Chapter 187 Decision!_1

Old Master Zhang had heard the entire conversation between his grandson and Li Jiayuan’s son—Lei Jian. He truly hadn’t expected that even after having driven Xia Jing out of the Zhang Family long ago, she would still manage to interfere. Even if she was his grandson’s biological mother, she had no right to ruin his grandson’s happiness. This infuriated Old Master Zhang greatly. He couldn’t stand a daughter-in-law like her, and this further strengthened his resolve not to let Xia Jing return to the Zhang Family. This was the reason why Xia Jing kept troubling his grandson’s girlfriend time and again. However, he was completely unaware that all of this was intricately linked to him. He only thought that everything was Xia Jing’s fault, never once considering it might be due to his own actions.

Zhang Yichen looked at his grandfather sitting beside him, unsure of what to say. He managed a forced smile, knowing Zhang Yichen was in distress. Since Xia Jing’s return, Yichen had been trying to convince Old Master Zhang to let her and Zhang Zhentian come back, but unexpectedly, this was the outcome!

”Yichen, it’s alright. No matter what happens, Grandpa will always be by your side. I won’t influence any decision you make. On the contrary, starting today, I will support any decision you make unconditionally. As long as you are content and happy, Grandpa will back you up. It was my fault before; I too have always wanted your mom and dad to come back. But I never thought they would treat you like this, even trying to destroy your happiness. I can’t tolerate this. They don’t need to ever come back to the Zhang Family. Do you understand what I mean by saying this today?” Old Master Zhang spoke.

He could tolerate anything done to him by anyone, but he couldn’t endure anyone hurting his grandson, the treasured grandson he had painstakingly raised. Even if it was his own son, he would never agree to let his son harm Zhang Yichen...

”Grandpa, I know. The result of all this isn’t what we imagined. I also know you’ve always longed for my mom and dad to come back home, because after so many years, you surely miss them. But for my sake, you’ve given up your principles time and again, time and again refusing to let my mom and dad return. I appreciate this very much. Honestly, if she hadn’t gone to Zhizhen to say those things, if she hadn’t threatened Zhizhen with her parents, trying to make her leave me, I wouldn’t have treated them like this. In fact, I had decided that as long as they didn’t treat Zhizhen badly and got along well with her, I would have agreed to let them come back to the Zhang Family. But the outcome was not what I expected. She is still set in her ways, Grandpa, I really don’t know what to do now. On one hand, is my girlfriend, and on the other is my mom; how do you expect me to choose? But on the other hand, my mom abandoned me for over a decade. That pain is etched in my heart and will be for a lifetime. I had hoped she would give up her perceptions for my sake, that she would stop troubling my girlfriend and agree to let Zhizhen and me be together. But I never expected her to come between us and rob me of my happiness forever as her son. I don’t know what she’s thinking as a mother.”

Zhang Yichen’s heart ached. Ever since he could remember, his parents were never by his side. He could forgive and let his mom and dad come back to their home tentatively. Ten years ago, he always hoped his mom and dad would come back to him. But before he knew it, ten years had passed and they had come back—but not for his happiness. Instead, they returned to destroy it. How could he accept that? He had thought his parents would put aside their conservative views and support all his decisions to make up for lost time. Yet they saw fit to repeatedly hurt the person he loved, hurt him, and hurt his grandfather. Zhang Yichen found this intolerable. He decided, for his whole life, he would never allow his parents, no, to be precise, his mother, to step a foot in the Zhang Family’s door again. For although not all issues might be related to his father, they were certainly related to his mother.

”Yichen, my dear grandson,” Old Master Zhang said, ”I don’t wish to see you in pain. For me, as long as you’re happy and can live a contented life, that would be my greatest comfort. I don’t have many years left, and I can’t always be by your side, but I hope the one who will accompany you for your lifetime is the girl you love. No matter what, I wish you’d carefully consider this. Since you’ve decided to take her hand and be with her for life, then you should not be angry at her actions in the future, nor should you harbor any resentment. A husband and wife must love and cherish each other to make it to the end. Yichen, I hope you understand that things aren’t as simple as you imagine. Society is this realistic and this cruel. Only if you continuously break through this reality and cruelty can you make yourself happy and make your family happy. Do you understand?”

”Grandpa, I understand,” Yichen replied. ”I will remember every word you’ve said to me, because your teachings will never be forgotten. They will benefit me for a lifetime. If it weren’t for your rigorous training back then, I wouldn’t have come this far, nor would I have the achievements I have today. Grandpa, the person I most want to thank is you. Thank you for your care over the years, thank you for being there for me regardless of everything, even through wind and rain, never leaving my side. I love you, and from now on, let me take care of you. I’ll make you happy and joyful for the rest of your days, because you will always be the pillar of strength in my heart!”

”Good child,” the elder said contently, ”hearing these words from you is all I could ask for. How do you plan to handle the situation with your parents? Your girlfriend must be very hurt, right? I believe a girl who can wait ten whole years for a boy she met only once is truly rare. Such affection is earth-shattering. I hope that you can live together forever. I also believe that Jiayuan will be a good wife and mother and that she will greatly help you in your career. However, the key is how you will persuade your parents to accept Jiayuan, as love is not one-sided. You must make them accept her so that when you two live together, you won’t have any regrets. Do you understand?”

”Grandpa, how could I not understand that?” Yichen said. ”But what can I do? I’ve said all I could, yet she just won’t accept Jiayuan. What can I do if she doesn’t accept her? It would be fine if she just didn’t accept her, but she also shouldn’t interfere, shouldn’t gossip and threaten Jiayuan. Do you know? Jiayuan is the kind of person who would bear everything on her own. She’d choose her own parents over anything because she feels that being born and raised by them is the greatest gift. She wouldn’t abandon her parents no matter what. I chose to forgive my parents also because she advised me several times. Yet, I never expected my mother to be such a person, not only ungrateful but also repeatedly threatening and pressuring her. It’s so hard for me to accept that I have a mother like that...”

Zhang Yichen finished speaking and turned away to leave!
