My Alleged Husband

Chapter 210: Chapter 190 Do You Want a Divorce?_1

Xia Jing couldn’t accept that her husband of over a decade, with whom she shared a bed, could speak to her with such callousness. She had never imagined she’d find herself in such a plight. She knew she couldn’t blame her husband for everything, but she also couldn’t admit fault herself. She was a proud person; how could she admit that she had made so many mistakes? She would rather place all blame on an innocent person than be the subject of ridicule.

”Zhentian, we’ve shared a bed as husband and wife for more than a decade, and never once have you spoken to me in such a tone. What, do you intend to fight with your wife today over an outsider? Tell me, yes, I acknowledge you’ve been very good to me over these years, but have I not been good to you? Have a heart-to-heart; in all these years, when have I not acceded to you, when have I not followed your opinion? Just this once, can’t you give in to me?” Xia Jing said to Zhang Zhentian.

Hearing Xia Jing’s words, Zhang Zhentian couldn’t help but find it laughable inside. He couldn’t resist retorting, ”So what you mean is that all these years I’ve never once followed your wishes? That I’ve never gone along with your steps? Xia Jing, oh Xia Jing, be a bit more conscientious. Tell me, wasn’t it you who insisted on leaving the Zhang Family, leaving my hometown, my father, and abandoning our child to go with you? I, in order not to let you endure my father’s insults, took you and walked away, and just like that, it’s been more than a decade. Now I have no home to return to, have been driven out by my father. What more do you want from me? Don’t you realize all this? How can you forget everything, and now in your eyes, I’m suddenly no good to you, just because this one time I didn’t follow your opinion to ruin our son’s happiness? You say put yourself in my shoes; then please understand, your son has fallen in love with a girl. If you don’t want to lose your son, husband, or the chance to return to your family, then don’t be so absolute, don’t ruin your son’s happiness. Even a mother wouldn’t think of destroying her own son’s lifetime of happiness. I really don’t understand you, if you think about returning, how can you act this way, pushing yourself into a corner, dragging me down too, leaving us both with no home to return to. Is that your ultimate goal?”

Xia Jing felt on the verge of collapse. How was it that she simply couldn’t communicate with her bedfellow? Could there be a generation gap between peers? She truly couldn’t comprehend. She endured and endured until she could bear it no more, and finally erupted, yelling at her husband.

”Zhentian, tell me, where have I not empathized with you? Haven’t I come back with you from the United States, wanting to take you back to your own family? Haven’t I been begging for your father’s and son’s forgiveness? What more do you want me to do? Do you actually want this mother to kneel before her own son? Do you think that’s appropriate? Wouldn’t it be utterly unfilial, in the eyes of the world, for a birth mother to kneel before her own son? Have you thought for your son? You’re always thinking of your return to the family home, but have you considered your son’s happiness? Ran Zhihan, a commoner’s daughter, what can she bring to match our son, to pave his way, to be his capable wife? You must have some idea of how significant our son’s future career will be. But without proper support, no matter how smart or capable she is, she can’t hold up the sky on her own...”

”I really don’t know how else to say this, but you should know how much agony I’ve endured these past several years. Every moment, I long for my son, my father, my hometown. For you, I’ve defied my father time and again. For you, I abandoned my parents who raised me for over twenty years. For you, I even gave up my own son. For you, I left my hometown and followed you to the United States. Do you not remember any of this? Why would you treat me like this? I’m already middle-aged, on the brink of old age. Can’t you consider me for once? Can’t you let me live out my years peacefully at home before resting in peace? Why must you make me so unwelcome in my own home, denying me the chance to enter even when I’m on my deathbed? Xia Jing, I don’t understand what you’re really thinking, but I hope that sometimes you can consider others, not be so self-centered and stubborn. It doesn’t do any good for you or anyone else. Despite your temper and impulsiveness over the years, I’ve tolerated you, but this time, it involves the happiness of my family—I can no longer indulge you. Maybe you think I don’t love you anymore, but the truth is, I’ve always loved you. Yet, your decisions have continuously broken my heart, left me cold. I don’t know how many more times this will happen. If you can neglect the happiness of your own son, how could you possibly care about the feelings of your husband? Have you really decided to end our marriage of over a decade?” Zhang Zhentian said these words, his heart chilled.

After a while, Xia Jing came to her senses. Could it be that her husband wanted to sever their marriage, to divorce her? No, that was impossible. Her husband loved her so dearly; how could he simply abandon a life with her for an outsider? She believed Zhang Zhentian wouldn’t do such a thing, but that belief ultimately turned to disappointment.

”Zhang Zhentian, what do you mean by that? Are you saying that after all these years, you want a divorce? Do you hold no regard for our marriage of over a decade? Do you really want to cast me out just to reunite with your family?” Xia Jing began to rage. What was the point of all her sacrifices if not to keep her family together? Why treat her this way? Why could nobody understand her intentions?

”You’re wrong. It’s not that I want to cut off our marital bond; you have personally buried it over these years. I’ve forgiven you again and again, tolerated you over and over, but have you ever considered my perspective even for a second? To avoid further misunderstandings from our son, I’ve exhausted all kind words. Even his girlfriend has pleaded on your behalf repeatedly. And how do you repay others? Do you threaten someone with their parents’ lives as a way to show gratitude? Is that how you treat people? I don’t want to split up with you either; we’ve shared over a decade of good times. You know how much I care about you. But I can’t abandon my aging father, my young son, for the sake of caring for you alone. I want to return home not because my son has achieved a lot, not to disrupt his relationship with his girlfriend, and certainly not to threaten his girlfriend with her parents’ lives to force her to break up with him. All I want is for my son to live safely and happily for the rest of his life. I don’t ask for him to be wealthy; I just hope he finds someone he loves to live a simple and undisturbed life. But you see things completely differently, always believing that since your son has become a financial emperor, he’s now above others. You think that now that he’s successful, you can just come back and tell him, ’Son, Mommy loves you so much.’ But can a parent’s love for their child be truly shown through words alone? Do you think that’s enough? I don’t want to say much more. You need to reflect on this. If you truly want to stay with me, then stop interfering with their relationship. If you don’t want to be with me anymore, then you can live your life as you wish. We’ll have nothing to do with each other from here on out.”

After he finished speaking, Zhang Zhentian hung up the phone directly. Xia Jing was completely dumbfounded, unable to believe that her husband of many loving years could speak such harsh words to her.
