My Alleged Husband

Chapter 205: Chapter 185 What on Earth Happened_1

Zhang Yichen couldn’t believe that Ran Zhihan would say such words to him out of the blue. He trusted that the girl he had chosen couldn’t be wrong, yet he couldn’t figure out why his girlfriend would suddenly tell him they should break up. Could it be that his mother had gone to see her again? Or had something happened to her in the United States? Why wouldn’t she clarify things with him and just hastily hang up the phone?

The more Zhang Yichen thought about it, the angrier he became. Why would the girl he loved treat him this way? Hadn’t he been good to her? He had given her his whole heart, yet how had she treated him? She hadn’t been in the United States for long before she wanted to break up with him. Could she really be such an ungrateful woman? Why? Could he have been wrong about her? Over the years, he had never been wrong about anything he cared about. Why would the girlfriend he now had treat him this way? He truly didn’t understand.

Lei Shao watched as Ran Zhihan cried incessantly until she tired herself out, and then fell into a restless sleep on the floor. He picked up the girl before him and carried her back to her room. He sighed, wondering why his Brother Yichen’s love life had to be so fraught with difficulty, and why their aunt had to treat his Brother Yichen this way. She was Brother Yichen’s own mother, yet he couldn’t understand why any mother would actively seek to destroy her son’s lifelong happiness.

An hour later, Lei Jian and Lei Kai came back. As soon as they returned, they saw Lei Shao sitting on the couch, lost in thought. They had never seen Lei Shao like this before. Addressing Lei Shao, they asked, ”Lei Shao, what’s wrong with you? In all the years since you were born, I’ve never seen you look so disconsolate. What’s going on today? You seem off. Did something happen?”

Seeing his brothers return, Lei Shao didn’t know how to begin. In the end, he told them the whole story.

”Brother, Elder Sister Zhihan and Brother Yichen have broken up!”

They were both stunned to hear this. What did that mean? They knew better than anyone else how strong the relationship between the two was. How could they just break up out of the blue? If relationships were that fragile, they wouldn’t have chosen to be together in the first place. Unable to help himself, one of them asked Lei Shao, ”What happened?”

”It’s like this; the aunt went to Elder Sister Zhihan and demanded that she leave Brother Yichen, believing that Zhihan wasn’t good enough for him. She threatened her with her parents, leaving her with no choice but to give up on Brother Yichen because she couldn’t bear to lose her own parents. She feels they gave birth to her, raised her, and she couldn’t let down their kindness. She doesn’t want to be an unfilial daughter...”

They were at a loss for words. Their own son, who they had abandoned before, had now grown into an economic emperor with great difficulty, and they wanted to come back and demand that he obeyed their every whim. Was that even possible? Even they wouldn’t be able to forgive such a mother, who, although had shown kindness to their brothers, had abandoned them over a decade ago. Now she had the audacity to return and interfere in his marriage, threatening to ruin his lifelong happiness. They truly had never seen such a mother, one who invoked fear in them, sending chills down their spines. They figured that if they were in their son’s shoes, they would be devastated, and now they could truly comprehend the pain in Zhang Yichen’s heart...

”Did you tell him about this matter? Do you really not plan to tell him and let him continue to deceive Yichen? Do you know how much this would hurt Yichen? He’s at the peak of his career now. If he faces any economic difficulties because of his girlfriend, how will you face Grandfather Zhang?”

”Well, I wanted to tell him, but Elder Sister told me not to, so what do you expect me to do? Am I supposed to break my promise to Elder Sister and secretly tell Brother Yichen? You know as well as I do that during the time Elder Sister lived with us, she was very stubborn and resolute. Once she made a decision, there was almost no one who could change it. Do you understand? I really never thought I’d go to Elder Sister and say such things to her. I just don’t understand why she would come back after abandoning Brother Yichen. To return and immediately interfere with Brother Yichen’s happiness, do you think such a mother deserves to be his mom? Now I really understand why Brother hates his mom so much, why even in death, he wouldn’t forgive his mother. If my mom did that to me, to my girlfriend, I wouldn’t forgive her either.”

Lei Jian and Lei Kai both agreed with Lei Shao’s words. They had also never imagined that Zhang Yichen’s mother would treat her son’s girlfriend from the commercial city like this. It was unthinkable that a mother who had abandoned her own son for over a decade could just decide to return and immediately meddle in her son’s life. It was truly hard for him to accept. Why hadn’t she returned earlier? Why did she wait until her son had risen to become an economic emperor of the world? Was it because of money? If it were about money, why didn’t she just directly ask for it instead of ruining Yichen’s happiness? Perhaps, what she wanted wasn’t money but to see her son unhappy. In her eyes, her opinion was always the right one, and she would never consider her son’s feelings. It was for this reason that many people disliked her, and because of that, Old Master Zhang had decreed that she would never be able to return to the Zhang family, effectively cutting off her hopes.

”Did you try to persuade her? Regardless, you should have told Yichen about this. It’s not fair to keep it from him, you know? This is a family affair between them, and we shouldn’t interfere too much, but I believe that if Yichen truly loves Zhihan, he will definitely come for her. Whether they can ultimately be together is up to fate. If Aunt keeps sabotaging them, I wouldn’t mind going to Grandfather Zhang,” said Lei Jian.

”Actually, I can quite understand Brother’s feelings now. Just think about it, he was heartlessly abandoned by his own mother over a decade ago. Now, when his mother finally returns, it’s not to protect him or wish him well, but to destroy his marriage. How is he supposed to accept that? Sometimes, when you look at it from another angle, you can see how pitiful Yichen really is. He never had his parents’ love from a young age, only Grandfather Zhang’s love. And no matter how excessive Grandfather’s love was, it couldn’t replace that of a father and mother. There’s a difference. Over the years, he has endured ridicule all by himself, never admitting defeat. No matter how difficult it was, he always soldiered on alone. He must be exhausted from all these years, but he has never admitted to being tired. He has been waiting for the day he could share a life and bed with the girl he loves. Yet, when the day was about to come, his mother reappeared, only to shatter that love. How could he possibly forgive Auntie for making his girlfriend cry again and again, for putting him in a difficult position time after time? Isn’t this a stab to his heart? The mother he yearned for in his thoughts finally returned, but her actions only brought tears to his girlfriend and left him torn. How could he possibly forgive Auntie?”

”Perhaps this is just fate...”
