My Alleged Husband

Chapter 225: Chapter 205 Shock_1

Zhang Yichen, hearing such words from his father, was stunned. He had never known his parents could love him to this extent. He never imagined that his parents, who had always yearned to have him home, chose to leave this place just so he could return. It was a profound shock to him!

At this moment, Zhang Yichen suddenly felt that if he didn’t recognize his father now, it would cause them such harm. A parent who would leave because of his departure must surely love their child deeply. If so, what reasons did he have to not forgive his parents? The parental heart is universally pitiful; who doesn’t know to love their own child?

”Dad, you should let her move back here. Whether I come back or not doesn’t matter, I don’t want her to leave because of me, that would make me feel guilty,” Zhang Yichen said to Zhang Zhentian.

Zhang Zhentian was shocked. What had his son just called him? Could there be something wrong with his ears? He couldn’t believe what he was hearing, asking his son repeatedly, ”Child, what did you just say? Is it possible you heard wrong?”

”No, you heard correctly, I called you dad!”

”Dad doesn’t understand. After all this time, you refused to recognize me, why have you chosen to recognize me at this moment? Is there some other reason? Or are you playing a joke on me?” Zhang Zhentian simply couldn’t believe that this moment had arrived so suddenly, a moment he had longed for, for many years. Now that it had finally come true, how could he not be overwhelmed with emotion?

”To be honest, from the day you returned here, I was prepared for the day when I would recognize you as my parents. I just didn’t expect that it would take going through so many things for this day to arrive. I’ve always hoped my parents could be by my side, something every child wishes for. But because of what my mother did, I felt truly alienated. Every time I chose to forgive you, she would use every strategy at her disposal to threaten my girlfriend. That was something I couldn’t tolerate. You both really don’t understand my girlfriend. In her heart, Zhihan has always regarded you as family, but in your hearts, you’ve always seen her as the culprit who disturbs our family’s peace. You’ve never considered any issue from Zhihan’s perspective. Time and again you’ve spoken harshly to her, but in the end, she convinced me to forgive you. Ordinary girls can’t do this, let alone those wealthy heiresses, but my ordinary girlfriend has managed to do it. Isn’t that a wonderful thing? So why can’t you see her good qualities? Your antagonism towards her is only pushing me further away from you!” Zhang Yichen explained the reasons he had suddenly recognized Zhang Zhentian that day.

At this moment, Zhang Zhentian didn’t know whether to feel happy or sad. His son had recognized him, but his wife had already left for the United States, planning to take action against his girlfriend once again. If his son found out about this, would the hard-earned affection and trust he had built be destroyed, crumbling to nothing!

”Yichen, dad wants to ask you something. Now that you’ve recognized dad, can you also recognize your mom? You should know that your mom doesn’t have any ill intentions; she just loves you too much. Perhaps her way of loving you is too extreme, but that comes from her love for her son. It’s not her fault...”

”Dad, I don’t know how to say this to you, but I am well aware that everything she did stemmed from her love for me. Nevertheless, how can that love justify her actions? Threatening my girlfriend time and again, forcing her to leave me—is this really for my own good? I can’t deny that she holds love for me in her heart, but I’m not sure if it’s true love. Surely, if parents really love their children, they would want nothing more than to see their children happy and content. As long as their child is living joyfully each day, nothing else should matter to them. Why then does it seem the complete opposite in her heart? What is it that she truly cares about?”

Zhang Zhentian heard his son’s true intentions from his words. It seemed he still wasn’t ready to forgive his mother. If that was the case, what meaning was there in acknowledging each other as family? Wouldn’t he still be torn apart from his wife?

”Since you know your mom had no ill intentions, why can’t you forgive her? Let her move back in with us, and our family will be even more harmonious. Once that happens, your mom won’t bother your girlfriend anymore. Why not be happy?”

Whether Zhang Zhentian misspoke or Zhang Yichen was just too clever, Yichen couldn’t help but feel there was more to his father’s words than met the eye. After contemplating, he raised his voice and said to his father, ”Clarify what you mean. Are you saying that if she moves back, she won’t trouble my girlfriend anymore? What are you implying? If I don’t let her move back in, will she continue to harass the person I love?”

When Zhang Zhentian heard his son pose this question, he realized he had slipped up in his speech. But what could he say now? He had no choice but to defend his wife. Yet, would explanations really suffice? His son had just barely begun to forgive him, and to expose his wife’s actions once again would be such a blow to his child. Wouldn’t it only serve to dishearten him even more?

”Son, listen to your father. It’s not as you imagine. Your mother went to the United States because she wanted to have a good talk with your girlfriend, hoping she would come back to you and not break up with you. That was her purpose for going to the States. And she also hoped that after she left, you would move back in to take care of Grandpa. Do you understand the good intentions of your mother?” Zhang Zhentian himself found it hard to believe what he was saying, let alone his highly intelligent son, Zhang Yichen.

”That’s not the whole truth, is it? You don’t need to try and hide anything from me. Don’t forget how well I know you all, and you certainly shouldn’t forget the extent of what you’ve previously done. Are you still so unrepentant? It really is true what they say, ’A leopard can’t change its spots.’ Time and again you’ve troubled Zhizhan. What do you want us to do? You have returned, so why continue doing all this? Zhizhan has completely severed ties with me, yet you still want to trouble her. How does that reflect on me? How will others see me? Won’t they say I’m a coward who can’t even protect his own girlfriend, allowing his parents to repeatedly harass her? Do these accusations sound good to you? Why can’t you consider things from my perspective for once? My allowing you to move back wasn’t because I didn’t want to forgive you, I was giving you a chance. Why do you always let such opportunities slip away? I can’t bring myself to forgive her again this time; she’s really gone too far. She doesn’t need to come back anymore and if I ever discover her troubling my girlfriend again, I will no longer acknowledge her as my mother in this lifetime!”

After finishing, Zhang Yichen hung up the phone in a rage!
