My Alleged Husband

Chapter 214: Chapter 194 Cutting Off All Ties_1

Ran Zhihan collected herself, silently thinking: Could it really be that she had to cut off all ties with the boy she had waited for ten years? Why did fate have to play such cruel tricks on her? If she had never met him after those ten years, would she have avoided her current pain? Or if she hadn’t met him ten years before, hadn’t saved him in the valley, would she then never have fallen for him at first sight, thereby avoiding the situation that unfolded today? She had loved him for ten years, for every day and night within those years, she had thought of him; and it was precisely because of this that she had searched desperately for him. But why, when she finally found him, did his mother come to impede them? She didn’t understand, feeling an immense pain in her heart, so painful. How she wished she could turn back time, to those carefree days filled with anticipation. She now realized that she did not yearn for her current life; she would rather spend her lifetime searching for the boy in her heart than face the present circumstances. Caught between a rock and a hard place, how could she make a choice?

She returned home, locked herself in her bedroom, and wept bitterly once more. It was not the first time Ran Zhihan had cried like this. She didn’t know how many more tears she would shed if she insisted on being with the man she loved. She wasn’t afraid of crying, but she feared that her actions might cause her parents to lose their lives. No matter what, she could not betray the parental love and upbringing she had received, especially since they were her own flesh and blood. After much deliberation, she ultimately decided to give up her love to preserve her family ties.

She rushed to her computer desk, turned on her laptop, and clicked into her email inbox. There she saw a photo of Zhang Yichen smiling. The photo was taken when she first arrived in the United States to study abroad, at the airport. She thought Zhang Yichen’s smile was so beautiful, and she wanted to keep that smile with her forever. As she looked at the photo, tears unconsciously streamed down her cheeks. Her heart ached unbearably, making it hard to breathe, but she had to make a decision she would regret for a lifetime.

With her nimble fingers, she typed away at the keyboard, quickly composing a letter of severance for the man she loved. She didn’t know what this final letter would feel like to him, but for her, it was incredibly difficult. With every character she typed, a tear fell; her heart was in so much pain. For her parents’ sake, she was giving up the love of her life...

Zhang Yichen heard his inbox chime, and when he opened it, he saw: Dear, perhaps, this is truly the last time I’ll call you this. I don’t know what you’ll feel when you read this letter, but I hope you can know that I wrote this letter through tears. Throughout all the days I’ve spent with you, my heart has been joyous, blissful. Ever since I was little, you have been the Prince Charming in my heart. Ten years ago, when I met you in the valley, I fell for you at first sight. I searched for you for an entire decade, every day hoping that you would take me home, hoping to spend my life with you. But perhaps for our family, this is a match not meant to be. For you, I would be willing to change anything, but often plans can’t keep up with changes, and no one can defy fate. Maybe it’s destined that we’re fated but not destined to be together. I feel we’re not particularly suited for each other. In the future, you’ll meet a girl who’s a better match for you, one who will greatly assist you in your career. I hope that when you meet her, you’ll treat her well and not let her down, as she’ll have nothing but good intentions for you. Thank you for taking care of me all these days, and for missing me over these ten years. Dear, the time I’ve spent with you will be deeply etched in my heart, never to fade in this lifetime. I’ve decided to leave, and I don’t hope you’ll come looking for me, and you won’t be able to find me anyway. The world is vast, and the oceans serve as a home; you won’t be able to find me. There’s something I want to tell you: don’t blame my departure on anybody else. It’s not related to your parents or to anyone else. I’ve just experienced some things and come to realize, I truly think we’re not suitable for each other. Your parents truly love you, and whatever they do is for your best. I hope that even if not for the monk’s sake, then for Buddha’s sake, and on my account, accept your parents back. They have realized the pain of being away from their son these years, and I don’t wish for your parents to be hurt again by your refusal to recognize them, which would be a deep blow to them. Only if you choose to forgive them, we might have a chance to meet again. If you keep resisting them, refusing to acknowledge them forever, then we can never be together in this lifetime. Dear, do you know how much I love you? For you, I could give up even my life, but I just can’t lose my parents for you. I can’t be a daughter whom the world deems unfilial. Perhaps you think my love for you isn’t as deep as my love for my parents, but I hope you can understand that in these ten years of knowing each other, I have indeed loved you deeply, a love that only grows with each day. But my parents are something I simply can’t give up; from my childhood, they have made countless sacrifices just for me to live a happy life. Because of me, they work tirelessly every day for my future. I can’t just grow up, get a boyfriend, and forsake my parents. Dear, forgive my selfishness, and please forgive your parents too. Let them come back home. I believe your grandfather also hopes you can forgive them. He has always wished for his son to return home to be by his side. Don’t let your grandfather go through the pain of choosing to cut ties with his son again and again because of you. It would be too hard on him. Remember, don’t come looking for me...

When he saw this email from the girl he loved, he didn’t know what to do. He had made himself so clear, so why did the inevitable still happen? Why couldn’t he protect the girl he loved? Was it because he was an economic king only to lose his beloved? If so, what was the point of becoming this king? If he couldn’t protect the one he loved, then why did he push himself so hard to train and grow, if not to be with the girl he loved? But now, everything had changed, so what was the point of all the hardship he had endured before? Was it all really going to be in vain? He couldn’t accept that!

At that moment, he began to reflect. Had he really made a mistake? Was it because of himself that he lost the girl he loved, because he wouldn’t forgive his parents, causing his grandfather to choose to sever ties with his son over and over again? It turned out he was the real culprit.

He made up his mind. He decided to have his parents come back home, to have his father accompany his grandfather. However, that didn’t mean he had forgiven his parents. The absence of parental love over a decade couldn’t possibly be healed in just a few days, and he found this genuinely difficult. Perhaps time would change everything...
