My Alleged Husband

Chapter 237: Chapter 217 Inevitable_1

Xia Jing had longed for this moment to finally come, but now, seeing her own son so heartbroken, she realized she had truly made a mistake. Yet how could she retract her steps? The situation had already progressed beyond her control, leaving her no choice but to continue on a path whose outcome no one could predict. Holding the dagger in her hand, she aimed to stab Ran Zhihan’s mother; Ran Zhihan, terrified, rushed forward. She ran and shielded her mother, and Xia Jing’s dagger plunged into Ran Zhihan’s chest. Blood instantly soaked her entire garment; her originally white blouse turned a shocking bright red. Yichen witnessed the blood pouring from his beloved girl’s chest and felt his heart breaking into pieces. Xia Jing showed no change of expression; she looked unmoved at her son, knowing she had forever altered both her own destiny and her son’s, yet she held no regrets.

Old Master Zhang was also shocked by the scene before him. He had not anticipated his daughter-in-law to be so ruthless. His grandson had already pleaded with her so desperately—why was her heart still as hard as stone? Why wouldn’t she soften, even slightly, at the emotions of others? He would have been happy with just a little softening, but it was the absence of it that led to this tragedy. Old Master Zhang saw the blood on the chest of his future granddaughter-in-law and realized that Xia Jing had not only committed murder, but had also destroyed her own son. He knew at that moment that his grandson would be devastated. Yichen loved this girl so much; he was willing to give up everything for her except his relationship with his grandfather. But because of Xia Jing, he had no choice but to give up on his beloved girl. Xia Jing, however, showed no gratitude for his devotion and proceeded to commit even more outrageous acts against her own son. He knew their relationship could never be repaired.

When Zhang Zhentian saw his wife stab the dagger into his prospective daughter-in-law’s chest, he was momentarily stunned. Although he had participated in mercenary training and missions, he had never actually killed anyone. At most, he would slightly threaten someone; he didn’t dare to take a life. He was aware of the severity of the law and its impartial justice that would not spare a murderer!

Zhang Yichen watched as the dagger was thrust straight into Ran Zhihan’s chest. It felt as though the dagger was piercing his own body. He experienced a pain so intense it left him breathless. When Ran Zhihan had broken up with him, he had already experienced what heartache felt like. Yet, he had never imagined that today’s pain would be even more unbearable, even more excruciating. How he wished the blade had struck him instead of Ran Zhihan because he believed it was better to suffer alone than to let his beloved endure any harm...

No one present could have imagined this day would come so quickly, not even Ran Zhihan’s parents, who hadn’t expected their daughter to rush towards them without a sign. They knew the stab couldn’t have been deep, but nevertheless, their daughter would surely spend some time in the hospital. They truly did not wish for their daughter to be harmed in any way, but it was too late. What could they do now? They were worried that if they sought justice against the wealthy, in the end, they would be the ones hurt because money can undoubtedly solve everything.

Zhang Yichen sprinted toward his beloved girl. With trembling hands, he lifted Ran Zhihan in his arms. Ran Zhihan was still bleeding profusely; the knife had pierced her heart. The depth of the wound was unknown to all, but the sight of the dagger deeply embedded in her body, exposed and undisguised, suggested a grave injury.

He held his beloved girl in his arms, and with a trembling voice, he gently repeated in her ear, ”Zhihan, I’m sorry, I’ve come too late. I’m so sorry. When you needed me the most, I wasn’t by your side. Because of me, you’ve been hurt so badly. If I didn’t exist, maybe you wouldn’t have to suffer so much. I’m so sorry; all of this is my fault. You have to hold on, okay? Even if you lose the whole world, you still have me. If you weren’t here, what would be the point of my living alone? If you weren’t here, I would definitely not want to live on my own because without you, my existence has no meaning at all. Don’t forget that Grandpa is still waiting for you to come home. I am also waiting for you to come home with me. Your dad and mom are waiting for you, too. You have to be strong. The ambulance is on its way, and soon you will be taken to the hospital. Hold on, my beloved girl...”

Ran Zhihan was almost drifting off to unconsciousness, but when she heard her beloved boy continuously talking to her by her side, she tried hard to open her eyes. Yet her eyelids felt as heavy as a thousand pounds, and no matter what, they wouldn’t lift. She exhausted all her strength, desperately wanting to see her beloved boy. She hadn’t seen him for so long and needed him so much. But what could she do? She would not and could not let her own feelings cause any harm to her parents. She chose to give up. She had not anticipated that her surrender would bring such immense harm to her beloved boy. Now she had finally returned to her loved one’s side, but she might be separated from him for eternity. This thought hurt her even more than the stab wound. She would rather fall into a deep sleep and never wake up. However, she heard her dearest one imploring her to live. He was still waiting for her to come home with him. She took a final breath, and no matter what, she was determined to maintain her presence in this world because she couldn’t bear to be without him.

Ran Zhihan’s parents realized that the young man before them was their daughter’s boyfriend and their future son-in-law when they heard Zhang Yichen speaking to their daughter like this. However, they couldn’t understand why, if he were their future son-in-law, Zhang Yichen’s parents would kidnap them. Could there be some misunderstanding?

Zhang Yichen panicked when he felt the girl in his arms’ hand gradually falling as time passed. He was terrified that the girl he had loved for so long would leave him just like that. He couldn’t accept it. If he could have appeared just a bit sooner, perhaps none of this tragedy would have happened. He wished time could reverse, even if it were just a little bit. He thought he would definitely have rushed in front of his girlfriend. He would not have let this happen. He would rather be the one lying in the hospital tonight, not his most beloved girl. She meant everything to him. He knew what he was doing was selfish, but who isn’t selfish when it comes to love? Does anyone who isn’t selfish even deserve to have feelings?

Time ticked away by the minute, but the ambulance still hadn’t arrived. They became anxious. Only then did Zhang Yichen pick up Ran Zhihan and stood up. He sprinted toward the hospital as fast as he could, hoping for nothing more than to shorten the rescue time. He wanted his girlfriend to be saved sooner. He was painfully aware that for someone injured in the heart, the longer the delay, the harder it is to recover...
