My Alleged Husband

Chapter 206: Chapter 186 Knowing the Truth_1

Zhang Family Mansion, from the moment Zhang Yichen found out that his girlfriend wanted to break up with him, he was in a state of utter disarray. When he got back home, his grandfather saw him looking so out of sorts and couldn’t help but ask, ”Yichen, what’s wrong? Did something happen? It’s rare for Grandpa to see you so distracted and disheartened, this is the first time Grandpa has seen you like this. Can you tell Grandpa what exactly happened?”

Seeing his grandfather standing in front of him, Zhang Yichen couldn’t help but throw himself into his grandfather’s arms, and said to Old Master Zhang, ”Grandpa, Zhihan and I broke up.”

Upon hearing his grandson utter these words, Old Master Zhang understood why his grandson was so distraught. He had always thought very highly of Ran Zhihan, deeming her a kind and adorable girl, and also very understanding. She wouldn’t just casually say such things, he could see that Ran Zhihan deeply loved his grandson, and he also knew that Ran Zhihan was someone who wouldn’t give up easily. But why, all of a sudden, did she give up on this relationship? This puzzled him.

”Can you tell Grandpa what caused it?”

”Grandpa, I also don’t know what exactly happened. She called me, and I was a bit excited at the time. I thought she was going to say some sweet nothings to me, or that she was missing me or something. But to my surprise, the moment she started talking, she said, ’We’re not very suitable for each other,’ and asked me to break up with her. I really love her, do you know that, Grandpa? For the past ten years, I’ve been working so hard, all for the dream of one day bringing her home. For her sake, I’ve relentlessly trained, but I don’t understand. Everything was fine before, so why does she suddenly want to break up with me now? I really can’t accept it. In the end, I tried to call her, but her phone was always turned off. She wouldn’t answer her phone or tell me what exactly happened. Grandpa, what do you think I should do?” Zhang Yichen was so anxious he was nearly crying, with tears starting to pool in his eyes. Old Master Zhang, seeing his grandson like this, was himself taken aback. Over the years, he had watched his grandson grow up, seen him get hurt again and again from training, bleed so much, hurt so bad he couldn’t breathe, yet he had never shed a tear. But now, he was about to cry over a girl – how could he not be shocked?

”Yichen, are you silly? If Zhihan won’t tell you what happened, you can call Lei Shao, right? Didn’t you ask Lei Shao to keep an eye on her over there? For something this significant, he must know. Once you ask him, won’t you know?” Old Master Zhang said.

Upon hearing what his grandfather said, Zhang Yichen suddenly realized – Grandpa was right. He had indeed arranged for someone to look after his girlfriend over there; they must know something this big. Since his girlfriend wouldn’t say, he should call his brothers himself.

”Grandpa, thank you...”

Zhang Yichen immediately began to smile. Old Master Zhao watched his grandson cheer up just from a word of his, feeling overjoyed. He thought his grandson was still too naive, believing whatever people told him. Even though he had great accomplishments in the world of economics, he would never understand a girl’s heart.

”Hello, it’s me, Zhang Yichen!” Zhang Yichen made a call to Lei Shao.

Lei Shao was startled to hear Zhang Yichen’s voice, and said, ”Brother Yichen, what made you think to call me today? Are you missing your brother here? When are you coming to the United States to see me?”

”I’ll come visit you in the United States when I have time, but the reason I called you today is to ask you something serious. I hope you can tell me what exactly happened with Zhihan? Why did she suddenly want to break up with me? I don’t want you to hide anything. You’d better tell me the truth!” Zhang Yichen said.

Lei Shao felt conflicted. He didn’t know whether to reveal the truth or not. He had promised Elder Sister Zhihan not to tell Yichen about it, but if he didn’t, he would feel he was betraying their years of brotherhood. Yet, if he did tell, he would be breaking his word, making it a difficult choice for him.

”Brother Yichen, nothing happened to Elder Sister Zhihan. Everything is pretty normal. Maybe she just suddenly didn’t want to be with you and wanted to experience single life. Don’t ask anymore. She’s doing fine here. Don’t worry, and remember to visit me in the United States when you have time...”

In the end, Lei Shao chose not to reveal the truth. He chose to keep his word rather than honor his brotherhood. He really didn’t know what to do and just randomly made a choice.

Lei Jian couldn’t hold back any longer. He snatched the phone from Lei Shao’s hand and spoke to Zhang Yichen, ”Yichen, I am Lei Jian. My brother finds it difficult to tell you because he promised your girlfriend not to reveal the truth. He wants to be a man of his word. I hope you don’t blame him, but since he can’t say it, I will. I’ll tell you, the reason for this situation is still your mother. Your mother found Zhihan and told her to break up with you or else she would go to Zhihan’s parents to settle accounts. What do you think Zhihan would choose? She cares so much about her family, her own parents. What could she do? In the end, she had no choice but to let you go, to choose her own parents. Do you understand what I’m saying?”

Zhang Yichen knew there was more to the story, and he said to Lei Jian, ”Lei Jian, can you clarify a bit more?”

”What I mean is, Zhihan breaking up with you wasn’t her own choice. It’s just that your mother repeatedly came to her, asking her to break up with you and not to be with you. Your mother kept telling her that a commoner’s daughter is not a match for you. Auntie always had the phrase ’commoner’s daughter’ on her lips, and then she would go on saying this and that to Zhihan. Do you know, in your mother’s eyes there is only money now. I really don’t understand how your mother thinks. Zhihan is such a good girl, and yet your mother has repeatedly troubled her and said those things. Do you think this is okay? You know that Zhihan is a very filial child. Her parents gave birth to her, raised her. She couldn’t just disregard them, yet your mother repeatedly exploited her weakness to force her away from you. How do you expect Zhihan to accept this? Once or twice, she might accept it, but what about three or four times? Should she just keep accepting it? Do you know? Every time your aunt came to her, even if she said many unpleasant things, she was willing to let them slide. But in your mother’s heart, she always believed that your refusal to forgive them was because of your girlfriend, thinking she was driving a wedge between you. But if you ask yourself, didn’t your girlfriend always advise you to forgive your parents? Why can’t they see any good in their eyes? Isn’t it true that your parents only see the bad in others and never the good? Honestly, I think finding this girlfriend is your great fortune. I don’t think a commoner’s daughter is unworthy of a rich family’s son. On the contrary, a commoner’s daughter is much better than those rich heiresses. But your mother... her feudal thinking is too severe. I don’t understand what she thinks. I hope you can handle your mother’s issues first and then come to find her...”

Zhang Yichen felt that what Lei Jian said made sense, and he responded, ”I know what to do now. I’ll leave Zhihan in the care of you three brothers. I won’t blame Lei Shao. You’ll always be my good brothers!”

”I have something else to attend to, so I’ll hang up now...”

And with that, they ended the call. Zhang Yichen knew that this matter had nothing to do with Zhang Zhentian, so he didn’t plan to bother his father with it!
