My Alleged Husband

Chapter 203: Chapter 183 - I Let You Leave!_1

In the following days, Xia Jing did not bother her future daughter-in-law. She quietly pondered for several days but still believed her decision was right. She had always trusted that any decision she made was correct. She felt sincerely that the girl her son liked was not good enough for him, but she never truly understood what her son needed or wanted. She simply imposed her own thoughts onto her son without realizing that this would only push him further away.

During this time, Ran Zhihan was living well at school, getting along closely with her classmates, and her teachers liked her because of her kind nature and her lively, cheerful personality. Yet, she was completely unaware of the obstacles her future mother-in-law had set for her down the road.

Today, Xia Jing invited Ran Zhihan out and said to her, ”Zhihan, to be honest, I know you are a very kind girl. I understand it wasn’t easy for your parents to raise you, and I know more about how you consider your parents’ burdens and don’t want to study abroad to avoid adding to them. But do you know? As a girl from an ordinary family, you really are not a match for a son from a Wealthy Family. A commoner’s daughter like you will never be able to enter high society, to stand out there, or to navigate it with ease. If you stay with my son in the future, he will face many problems, many business issues, many collaborative projects. Can you solve them all for him? Do you think, as a commoner’s daughter, you can bring him happiness, a future, hope? Don’t you know? The hope you give him now will turn to despair later on. Do you want the boy you always loved in your heart to lead a life of despair and loneliness because of you?”

Ran Zhihan truly did not expect her future mother-in-law to invite her out just to say such things.

”Auntie, I know why you are saying this and that you are considering your son. But do you know what your son wants? What does he need? What kind of life does he desire? No, you know none of these things. If that is so, why should you interfere in his life? I shouldn’t be saying these things as an outsider, but Auntie, I hope you can understand, Yichen has had a tough time these past years. He has never shown weakness to anyone because he believes that only by being strong himself can he protect the people he cares about. But it’s because of you, that his resilient, enduring heart was shaped when you left him. Can you bear to see your son suffer unbearably again because of your decisions?”

Xia Jing had not expected that the seemingly gentle and frail girl before her would have such fierce eloquence, nearly leaving her speechless.

”So, you mean to say that you refuse to leave my son, huh? Fine, that’s your business, and I can’t interfere, nor do I have the right to. But I hope you can consider it from my son’s perspective. If you truly love him, don’t do these things to hurt him. Yes, you’re currently studying abroad, but do you realize you’ve only just begun? While you were in junior high school, do you know what my son was doing? You were in junior high while my son had already graduated from university. Do you think there’s a future for you two together with such a great disparity? Don’t think that love is enough for longevity. Society doesn’t work that way. He needs to marry a woman who can help him stand firm in his career, not a girl who hides and cries secretly for him to clean up after.”

Ran Zhihan, unwilling to be deemed worthless, told Xia Jing, ”Auntie, every word you said is correct. Yes, you are his mother, his elder, you gave him life; these are facts that will never change. But do you really know what he’s needed all these years? When he needed your love, where were you? When he needed your care, where were you? When all his classmates mocked him, where were you? Where were you when he was sick and feverish? When he endured devilish training alone, where were you? Have you ever cared about him? Have you ever worried about him? Have you thought about how he’s doing today? Whether he’s eaten enough, dressed warmly, or grown taller? Have you thought about any of this? You haven’t, because all you care about is your own freedom; you’re too selfish. Despite your selfishness, I’ve always encouraged him to forgive you because I believed that you didn’t mean to abandon him initially, you were just momentarily blinded by greed, wanting freedom. I’ve told him this more than once, I’ve always said the same to everyone, but I don’t understand why you always blame me for your son’s unwillingness to forgive you. Is it really because of me that he won’t forgive you? Have you not done anything unforgivable? Sometimes you refuse even to consider others’ perspectives, imposing unwanted problems onto them. Have you heard the saying, ’Do not impose on others what you yourself do not desire?’ Do you think your actions are fair? He is your son, not a toy you birthed to be played with and discarded at will. Even toys garner sentimentality; do you harbor any affection for your son at all?”

”I have to admit, you’re quite articulate, but I’m not buying into it. I’m laying it out for you today, you’re leaving my son, willingly or otherwise. If you really don’t want to leave, don’t blame me for being uncivil. You know, I’m a Mercenary; we fear neither heaven nor earth, not even the police, so would we fear a commoner like you? Do you think your parents could stand against me? If you don’t want your parents to suffer because of your romantic affairs, then you’d better let go, leave my son, and remove all your feelings for him. If I find out you’ve come close to my son by even an inch, I’ll take it out on your parents. Do you understand what I’m saying?”

Ran Zhihan was shocked by Xia Jing’s words; she didn’t expect her future mother-in-law to look down upon her relationship with Zhang Yichen so much. At that moment, she felt a bit scared. If she were to spend her days with someone like her mother-in-law, how could she live a good life? She did not aspire to become a glorious phoenix; all she wanted was to spend a lifetime with the man she loved sincerely and had waited ten years for—to grow old together in love. Was that truly so difficult? Was it because she was a commoner’s daughter that she had to pay such a price? What was wrong with being a commoner’s daughter? Many people in the world are born to commoners. Why shouldn’t someone from humble beginnings rise in high society? High society wasn’t exclusively reserved for the Wealthy Family; many commoners had made it to the top. Why did her mother-in-law look down upon her and belittle her? In what way did she not meet her expectations? What had she done to provoke her? Was she wrong even to encourage her son to reconcile with her? Ran Zhihan felt extremely uncomfortable—she had not expected her mother-in-law to be such an unreasonable person. At that moment, tears began to swirl in her eyes, yet she stubbornly refused to let them fall!
