My Alleged Husband

Chapter 212: Chapter 192 Bad Girl_1

”I’ve told you so much already, why can’t you understand that a person isn’t everything to another just because of wealth, and even more so when two people in love are together. Even without money, without a house or a car, without power or influence, as long as they truly love each other, it’s better than anything else. Why is it that, having lived so many more years than I, you still don’t grasp these truths? Do you know? Every day I spend with Zhihan, I’m exceedingly happy, no matter what Zhihan does or says, even if she nags and fusses at me, I’m happy. This feeling is something you’ll never understand for a lifetime!”

Zhang Yichen felt that talking to Xia Jing was truly like talking to a wall, nothing gets through. He just couldn’t understand it. Xia Jing wasn’t that much older than him, so why was there such a huge generational gap between them?

”My son, you should understand that a mother doesn’t want her child to suffer even the slightest injustice, much less any pain. As your mother, even though I haven’t been by your side for more than a decade, haven’t watched you grow up, I am still a mother. I too hope my child can live happily and safely. Why don’t you see the earnestness in my heart? Even though I’ve done many things to wrong you, even though I abandoned you back then, isn’t it true that I’ve come back now? I’ve returned to make amends. Can’t you give me a chance, an opportunity to make it up to you?” As Xia Jing spoke, she began to cry, her heart aching.

”You speak so lightly of amends. How can you compensate for more than a decade of affection? What can replace the love of a father and a mother for all those years? Do you really think that by coming back and casually saying you all love me, you can fill the void of love I’ve lacked all these years? Could it be that you have got it wrong? I’m a living person, not a doll, and even if I were a doll that you had abandoned for over a decade, when you return to find it, it wouldn’t be happy with just a careless, ’I didn’t mean to abandon you,’ and be willing to be held and played with by you again, let alone that I am not a doll. Why can your hearts never stand in my shoes and consider what I want, what I love, what I don’t want, what I hate? Do you really know? In your eyes, all you care about are your own interests, your own power. You have never considered my perspective. How do you expect me to accept such a mother? How can I accept having such a mother living by my side? Don’t you think you are being selfish?” Zhang Yichen really didn’t want to go on talking to Xia Jing; he felt that saying any more was pointless and just exhausted his heart!

”How can you say I’m selfish? I ask you, which parent in this world isn’t selfish? Which one doesn’t want their children to live safely and be happy every day? Is it truly unforgivable in your eyes that I did those things for your happiness, for you to have a successful future? You say we haven’t considered things from your perspective, but have you ever thought from our perspective as parents? Do you know what we, as parents, think? Actually, you don’t know either, do you? So why do you insist we consider your perspective? Yes, I know you like that girl, and I acknowledge that she is indeed a very good person, but her family is really too poor. She can’t help you with anything in your career. Have you thought about it? She has studied for so long but hasn’t had the chance to study abroad. If it wasn’t for your grandfather giving her this opportunity, would she have been able to study abroad, to further her education? You haven’t thought about these issues yourself; sometimes you really should consider our perspective as parents. What we hope for is just for our children to have a happy family, to marry a virtuous helper, not a common girl with no opportunity to study abroad. Do you think that is really good for you, for all of us? What would people think of you, and of your grandfather? You know how much your grandfather loves his reputation; for you, he has given so much. Shouldn’t you consider your grandfather’s reputation?” Xia Jing knew no matter what she said, Zhang Yichen wouldn’t crack a smile, so she brought up her own father, Zhang Yichen’s grandfather, knowing that although her son would not listen to anyone else, he would certainly listen to his grandfather. She knew that in his heart, he was aware of how much his grandfather had sacrificed for him, and he wouldn’t let his grandfather down!

”Yes, my grandfather loves his reputation, but unlike you, although he cares about reputation, my happiness is paramount in his eyes. But it’s different in your eyes. Not only is reputation important to you, but your decisions are even more crucial. You only ever see the results you’ve decided upon, never caring for the thoughts of the person whose fate you’re deciding. Because all you see is selfishness, you’ve lived your lives selfishly, never considering anyone else, never taking any other perspective into account when thinking things through...”

”I really never expected that you would speak to your mother like this for the sake of an unrelated girl. Do you even consider us your parents at all? Even if we abandoned you, you can’t treat us like this. Filial piety is the most important virtue. If you can’t even show filial respect, what right do you have to marry her?” Xia Jing said.

”Even if filial piety is the most important virtue, I’d like to ask, have you and Zhang Zhentian achieved it? My grandfather is so old now; he painstakingly raised him for over twenty years, yet he left as soon as he said he would. Did he show filial piety? He did not, and neither did you. What right do you have to tell me, ’filial piety is the most important virtue’? You are my parents, that’s a fact, and it’s something I can’t change in this lifetime. But I am a bit better than you. I will never abandon my grandfather, no matter what, because I know he took care of me for nearly twenty years, which wasn’t easy for such an old man. I will take good care of my grandfather, but as for you, I can’t treat you with the same respect, because in your hearts, this son of yours is insignificant. I’ve already survived the hardest days of my life with my grandfather by my side. But when I needed you most, you were not there to accompany me. So now, in my most prosperous times, don’t expect to reap any benefits from me because the day you chose to abandon me was the day I no longer had parents. Parents that can abandon their own child—why did you even bother to have me in the first place? If you did bring me into this world, why not raise me? Perhaps in your eyes, I’m not a good son, but at least in my grandfather’s heart, I am a good grandson. In his eyes, I’ve become more important than the son he raised for over twenty years. Now, do you really think that if you say these things to my grandfather, he will take your side or mine?”

Xia Jing, hearing her son say all this, could barely contain her rage; she erupted at her son, ”Is that so? Well then, I’ll tell you this—as long as I’m alive, you can forget about being with that girl of yours. Let me tell you, she is a bad girl, someone who destroys the harmony of other families. She’s nothing, she’s not comparable to anyone, she’s just a lowly person...”

Having said her piece, Xia Jing hung up the phone, ready to deal with what she deemed the bad girl.

She would not permit anyone to hinder the glorious path of her son’s life...
