My Alleged Husband

Chapter 202: Chapter 182: Stop It!_1

Zhang Yichen didn’t want to speak anymore with his dad. He feared he wouldn’t be able to resist calling him ”Dad.” To avoid showing weakness so soon, he hung up the phone early. When Zhang Zhentian heard his son hang up, he felt exceptionally distressed. Yet, at the same time, he was quite happy because, after all, his son had given him a chance. As for whether he could cherish this opportunity, it would depend on whether Xia Jing could stop her actions!

Xia Juan saw the endlessly changing expressions on Zhang Zhentian’s face. She didn’t understand what her son had said to Zhang Zhentian. She asked, ”Zhentian, what’s wrong? Did your son say something? Did he forgive us? Tell me quickly!”

Zhang Zhentian, seeing how eager his wife was, really wanted to tell her that their son had given them a chance. But his son had asked him not to tell Xia Jing because his son wanted to see if Xia Jing would really stop because of his forgiveness, not just for its own sake.

”Zhentian, what’s wrong? Say something, will you? Why are you looking at me with that expression? If you have something to say, just say it. We’re husband and wife; there’s no need for you to beat around the bush!”

”Wife, I don’t want to say anything. I just want to ask if you can stop targeting our son’s girlfriend. In our son’s heart, his girlfriend is now more important than we, his parents, are. Do you think he’ll forgive us if you keep targeting his girlfriend like this?”

”Zhentian, I think I’ve already made myself very clear. I’ve told you that I don’t want my son’s future wife to be a commoner’s child. Don’t you think this lowers our son’s status? What is our son now? What kind of wife can’t he find? Why is he so infatuated with this commoner’s daughter? Of course, I’m not saying this because I look down on commoners’ daughters; on the contrary, I think they’re very noble. But I just don’t want my son marrying a commoner’s child. Don’t you think that would make our son unable to raise his head in front of his friends?” Xia Jing said to Zhang Zhentian.

Zhang Zhentian felt helpless about what Xia Jing had said. He hadn’t expected that even now, Xia Jing would show no sign of repentance. He couldn’t comprehend what was going through Xia Jing’s mind. Did Xia Jing really want to see him and his son unable to recognize each other before she would feel happy?

”Xia Jing, how many more times do I have to tell you? Stop targeting Yichen’s girlfriend. Do you realize that he now treasures her like the most precious thing? I just hope that you can stop this, lest you end up with your own son never forgiving you, never acknowledging you, and pushing everyone away. Would that really make you happy?” Zhentian sighed as he spoke to Xia Jing.

”Zhentian, are you hiding something from me? You seem a bit off today. Tell me the truth, did our son say something when he called you? Tell me quickly!”

It had to be said that Xia Jing’s sensitivity was indeed too acute. She felt that her son had said something to Zhentian, but Zhentian was unwilling to share it with her. Relying on her sharp instincts, she realized that things were not as simple as she had imagined. She asked Zhentian, but he was reluctant to share, which made Xia Jing feel very uncomfortable.

”Wife, I’m sorry, I can’t tell you about this for now, but I beg you, please stop targeting his girlfriend. After all, she is your future daughter-in-law. If you want to return to the Zhang Family, you will live under the same roof, don’t you think it would be awkward when you meet? How do you think it looks, a mother-in-law treating her daughter-in-law this way? Do you think such things are suitable to happen in our prominent family? Aren’t you tarnishing our son’s dignity? Aren’t you making it so that our son will never acknowledge us? Don’t you know that our son is a person for whom self-respect and face are very important? He would never give up his pride and dignity to bow down to us. Only when we reach a level that he can approve of will he acknowledge us. But why do you have to act like this? You’re making me lose our son forever!” As Zhentian spoke, he was close to tears. He had always been longing to return to the Zhang Family. He now wanted to be by his father’s side. He knew his father was getting old, getting weaker every day. Though he seemed in good spirits, his condition was actually not that good. When Zhentian learned the truth, it was hard for him to accept, but seeing his father’s strong demeanor, he couldn’t bring himself to ask. Yet, he wished his wife could stand in his shoes, to consider a little bit for him. But his wife kept going against his father’s wishes, preventing him and his son from acknowledging each other, repeatedly damaging the relationship between his son and his future daughter-in-law. Was this really the Xia Jing he loved? Was this the same Xia Jing who was open and clear of conscience?

”Zhentian, I don’t understand. We’re husband and wife, why can’t you tell me everything? I just want to ask you one question, is this related to what our son told you? If it is, then I definitely won’t ask any further. But I still hope that you understand that I will absolutely not agree to that common girl marrying my son, because she truly isn’t suitable for him. She hasn’t even been abroad to study, while my son is already an economic emperor...”

Actually, Zhentian understood that his son should be studying abroad with others his age, but his son had already returned home with his studies complete. Not only had he finished his master’s degree, but he had also completed his PhD. He knew how his son had lived through the years. It was precisely because of this that he wanted to make it up to his son. But why was it so hard to compensate his son? He knew that his son had only attended elementary school and then skipped middle school and high school to attend university. Sometimes, Zhentian couldn’t help feeling proud of having such an incredible son. He wondered if only he hadn’t abandoned his son, maybe his son wouldn’t have had to live so strenuously? Maybe his son would be studying abroad happily like his peers, enjoying school life instead of skipping over middle and high school stages and heading straight to college – something incredibly hard for a normal person, yet his son had done it. What did this prove? It proved his son was a genius, and he had cruelly abandoned that genius son of his.

Zhentian was aware of these things, but Xia Jing didn’t know. Everyone concealed it from her, wanting to see what sort of drama Xia Jing would stir up next, ruining the relationship between Zhang Yichen and Ran Zhihan. Zhentian knew that if Xia Jing did something even more outrageous, there would be no hope for him to return to the Zhang Family in this lifetime. But on one hand was his family, and on the other was his wife. He was torn between his family and his wife, making it a difficult choice. Sometimes he felt like he couldn’t catch his breath, but what could he do? He had no choice but to leave it to fate and take things one step at a time.
