My Alleged Husband

Chapter 230: Chapter 210: Ran Zhihan Refutes Xia Jing_1

Zhang Zhentian had already made his preparations. He thought that with his father’s and his son’s consent, he could have his wife come back, but the outcome was not what he expected. This left him feeling somewhat embarrassed; he didn’t know whether he should call his wife back or listen to his son.

In his heart, Old Master Zhang also hoped Xia Jing could return, but he couldn’t be so selfish. He needed to consider more from the perspective of his grandson. He couldn’t be like Zhang Zhentian, who only cared about his own joy and forgot he had a family...

Zhang Zhentian watched his father’s retreating back get farther and farther away. He wished he could extend his arms and forcefully pull his father into an embrace, but it felt as though he was reaching into the void, unable to touch his father. He could only watch helplessly as Old Master Zhang went upstairs and returned to the bedroom. Zhang Zhentian stood still, powerless. He shifted his gaze back to his son, hoping Yichen would change his mind. Yet Zhang Yichen, just like Elder Zhang, said nothing and directly went upstairs. Seeing his father’s attitude, Zhang Zhentian’s heart grew cold. He understood that now, no matter what he said or did, he couldn’t gain approval. Could it really be that a single mistake he made invalidated all his worth?

While their family was still in turmoil over the repeated debates about bringing Xia Jing back home, Xia Jing, who was in the United States, sought out Ran Zhihan once again. She planned to coerce Ran Zhihan as before, and if that didn’t work, she was ready to target Ran Zhihan’s parents. She didn’t expect that this time, Ran Zhihan wouldn’t be the pushover she once was, but instead stood up strong and rebutted her future mother-in-law.

”I don’t know what brings you to me today, Auntie, but if it’s about the situation with your son, then I think there’s no need for you to say anything more. It’s been nearly three months since I cut off contact with him; aren’t you satisfied? What more do you want from me? Do you really want me to vanish from this world completely?” Ran Zhihan said as soon as she saw Xia Jing approaching, knowing there would be no good news.

”Yes, I’m here today about the matter between you and my son. Do you realize? Your presence has seriously affected the relationship between me and my son. Aren’t you aware of that? Because of you, my son has continuously made his grandfather forbid us from returning home. Don’t you see all of this is related to you?”

”Auntie, aren’t you mistaken? Didn’t your son tell you how many times I’ve urged him to forgive you, to let you come back home? Didn’t he agree to let you return? Haven’t I already broken up with him according to your demands, without any further contact? Aren’t you satisfied? What more decisions do you want me to make? Don’t tell me you’re still planning to threaten me with my parents, to force me away from your son. You really don’t need to do that, because he and I no longer have any connection or contact. If you do such a thing now to a woman who has nothing to do with your son, you’ll only earn the contempt of the world, and even more contempt for your son. If you care so much about your son, why don’t you beg for his forgiveness more, do things he likes, instead of repeatedly coming after me? What good does that do you? What good does it do your son? Your actions will only worsen the relationship between you and your son, and in the end, you shift the blame onto me. Is this how an adult takes responsibility?” Ran Zhihan spared no face for Xia Jing.

”Oh, I didn’t expect that after a mere three months without seeing you, you’ve become even more articulate. Talking to your elders like this, without any manners, it seems your months of studying abroad have been a waste. You haven’t learned anything; you’re just squandering the money of my son’s family. Do you have the nerve to continue staying here?” Xia Jing was unrestrained in her words, always assuming that the girl before her was an easy target, someone she could manipulate at will. But she didn’t expect that in just a short three months, this girl could become so articulate and decisive in her actions, catching her off guard.

”Auntie, I am studying here in the United States using Grandfather’s money, which has nothing to do with you. I will pay him back once I make something of myself. I won’t owe him a dime. At least I’m not like you; I will be there for Yichen when he needs me. But what about you? Can you do that? You can’t do anything. What right do you have to talk to me about love or the lack of it?”

”You? A common girl with a commoner’s background, what right do you have to speak of love to a rich family’s son? Are you worthy? Are you his equal? You have nothing. What can you offer him for a bright future, or to make him happy? Yes, you’re right. I did indeed plan to use your parents to threaten you, but now I’ve changed my mind. I won’t use them to threaten you anymore. If I ever find out that my son disrespects his father or me because of you, then I will go after your parents myself, instead of coming here and using them to threaten you, because that is meaningless to me!”

Xia Jing knew that merely using her own parents to threaten her now would definitely not have any effect. Rather than making meaningless threats, it was better to take some actual action.

Ran Zhihan was stunned. She always knew her intuition was sharp. When she saw the mother of the man she loved coming to her, she knew that this encounter would not end well. She didn’t expect that this time it wouldn’t just be a threat, but that she was ready to take action. If that were the case, and if she continued to secretly keep in touch with Zhang Yichen, she would definitely harm her own parents. She would live with guilt for the rest of her life, rather than spending her entire life in pain, it was better to cut ties with Zhang Yichen completely. Better a short pain than a long one, to prevent eventually hurting her own parents and the man she loved...

Although Ran Zhihan thought this way in her heart, she couldn’t act on it. She had to show her tough side, or else she would always be trampled on by others, bullied at their whim. She didn’t want to be that kind of useless person. She had to stand up to protect her mother and her love. Even if she couldn’t protect both love and family, at least she could preserve one.

”I’ll call you ’Auntie’ one last time, out of respect for you as my elder. But I want to make it clear to you today that I have no association with your son. If you dare lay a hand on my parents, don’t blame me for being impolite. I’m not a soft persimmon you can just squeeze whenever you please. I have my pride, my own feelings, and my days of heartache. If you don’t want your son to be completely disappointed in you, then I suggest you stop this, right now. Of course, I won’t tell your son about what you did today, including the past incidents. I have not spoken to Yichen about them, but one cannot wrap fire in paper forever. Since you’ve done it, be prepared mentally, because the truth will always come out one day...”

After saying her piece, Ran Zhihan turned and left without giving Xia Jing a chance to respond. She could no longer continue like this. She needed to become strong, powerful, to protect the ones she loved!
