Inheritance of Two Trillion

Chapter 2895: Chapter 2020: Open and Honest Discussion (2)

Hearing compliments about her daughter, Mrs. Margery’s expression softened slightly, and she nodded, ”I can trust Fei’er with her work.”

Bai Xiaosheng smiled and began adding the prepared tomatoes to the scrambled eggs, stirring them in.

”But this Miss Fei’er, who never makes mistakes regardless of the importance of the task, could actually forget her boat ticket in the lobby while going through security. Isn’t that odd?” Bai Xiaosheng said with a smile.

Mrs. Margery’s expression remained calm.

”Everyone makes a slip sometimes.”

”But I believe Miss Fei’er wouldn’t.” Bai Xiaosheng said, ”It’s quite interesting on the ship, coincidentally there’s a young master from the HBB company—Binge, there with his friends. Mr. Binge is actually on a secret mission to negotiate a cooperation deal with the Morgan family’s Vice Chairman. Are you aware of this?”

Mrs. Margery said nothing.

Bai Xiaosheng continued, ”You invited us to Wan Yu, Fei’er suggested we take that cruise ship, and coincidentally ran into Binge and his group. How high is the probability of that happening?”

”Moreover, we happened to run into two information traffickers, Lai Mo and Buchi, who accidentally picked the wrong room, got caught by us, and then revealed all they knew. What are the odds of that happening too?”

”This is really too coincidental; I didn’t expect your trip to be so eventful.” Mrs. Margery remarked lightly.

Bai Xiaosheng started adding seasonings and gave the dish a final stir, knowing the heat was just right, he turned off the gas stove with a ”snap.”

”The brothers’ acting was really brilliant, but from the start, I never believed them. I, for one, have keen eyes.”

Bai Xiaosheng took a plate and started serving the dish from the pan.

”I have considered who their hidden employer might be, and you are one of my guesses, actually the most probable one. I had someone follow them and overheard some conversations to corroborate this. Their real employer is you, isn’t it?”

Bai Xiaosheng held the plate, turned around, and smiled while showing Mrs. Margery the Bai’s Tomato Scrambled Egg.

”You really went to great lengths to inform me about Vice Chairman Morgan’s secret matters, and I must thank you. Speaking of which, you might be quite annoyed seeing those you helped unite turn to Morgan’s side, right?”

Mrs. Margery’s expression remained serene, neither rebutting nor explaining, as she looked at Bai Xiaosheng’s Tomato Scrambled Egg, ”It looks wonderful.”

Bai Xiaosheng beamed with a smile, ”Let’s dig in then.”

With that, Bai Xiaosheng carried the dish out.

Just after leaving the kitchen, he returned and said to Mrs. Margery, ”Your soup has been cooking an extra five minutes, if you cook it further, it will be overdone.”

After speaking, Bai Xiaosheng walked out again.

Mrs. Margery looked at the soup in the pot, turned off the heat, remained silent for a few seconds, and suddenly smiled silently.

Lunch was Western-style, yet a dish from the East was added.

The seemingly mundane Tomato Scrambled Egg, with its golden eggs and bright red tomatoes, looked particularly appetizing, prompting Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying to take bite after bite.

”Didn’t expect you to be so talented!” Fei’er was amazed by the sweet and sour taste.

Mollya praised endlessly as well.

”This dish is incredibly simple, someone as skilled as Mrs. Margery could easily make it after watching once.”

Bai Xiaosheng smiled as he looked at Mrs. Margery and said, ”If you ever feel like trying, be bold and trust yourself without hesitation, after all, you are indeed an expert, aren’t you, madam?”

Mrs. Margery smiled at Bai Xiaosheng, put a piece of vegetable in her mouth, chewed slowly, and after finishing, said, ”I am very afraid of failure.”

”Nothing is guaranteed to be successful, but how will you know without trying? Failure isn’t good, but if you succeed, wouldn’t it mean an entirely different experience?” Bai Xiaosheng smiled, ”If you’ve decided to try, it shows you’re really tired of the status quo. Isn’t the failure then a consequence of your choice, hard to accept?”

Fei’er, Mollya, and Lin Weiwei felt a bit lost in the conversation.

Weren’t they talking about cooking? How did it turn into a philosophical discussion...

Lei Ying’s eyes were thoughtful, ignoring the conversation as he focused on enjoying the food.

”Interesting insight.”

Finally, Mrs. Margery’s casual comment ended the topic.

”Still, why don’t we talk about the interesting stories you’ve encountered outside over the past year or so? I’d like to hear them. Usually, I only hear work reports and don’t have time to attend to the details. This time we are sitting down for a private gathering, so let’s talk freely,” Mrs. Margery said with a smile.

As she suggested, everyone naturally complied.

And so, they ate and chatted.

Sometimes, Mrs. Margery would be the first to laugh. With her leading the way, everyone else naturally joined in with their laughter, making the atmosphere incredibly relaxed.

The lunch lasted for an hour and a half before it ended.

After eating, everyone moved to the sofa area in the living room, each holding a cup of tea or coffee, and continued to chat.

”Mr. Bai, this time you helped our Sixth Business Division resolve crises faced by hundreds of enterprises, and for some, you even helped them turn losses into profits. Everyone in our Sixth Business Division holds you in high esteem and is very grateful. I’ve already prepared a report to request commendation from the group for your efforts. I’m not sure if what’s written is appropriate, so please come with me to the study to take a look,” Mrs. Margery proactively said to Bai Xiaosheng.

Then, Mrs. Margery looked at the other four individuals and smiled, ”You continue chatting.”

Bai Xiaosheng put down his teacup, stood up, and followed Mrs. Margery to the study.

Seeing this, the others only watched them leave and didn’t say much.

Bai Xiaosheng and Mrs. Margery entered the study. It was spacious, with clear windows and clean surroundings. The walls were lined with bookshelves, exuding an intense scholarly atmosphere. A large window on one side looked out to the garden, showcasing blooming flowers and lush, shaded paths, creating a pleasing view.

Mrs. Margery walked straight to the desk, gesturing for Bai Xiaosheng to sit across from her. She opened her computer and the file, then turned the computer screen for Bai Xiaosheng to see.

Bai Xiaosheng quickly skimmed through the document.

The report prominently praised their achievements, not sparing words of praise.

At the end of the report, Mrs. Margery advocated for promoting Bai Xiaosheng using the reward procedures left by the former chairman...

After reading it, Bai Xiaosheng looked up at Mrs. Margery.

Mrs. Margery smiled and looked directly at Bai Xiaosheng, ”These are what you deserve. I’m merely the first to voice it.”

”Actually, my work still has some imperfect aspects,” Bai Xiaosheng said with a smile. ”For example, there are enterprises that I could have saved but let them end up with a poor outcome. There are also enterprises whose issues I could have ignored, but I still brought them to the group’s attention for resolution. Over the past year, I imagine I must have caused you not a little trouble. Your report only mentions merits, not ’flaws’, which makes me feel quite honored.”

Mrs. Margery smiled at Bai Xiaosheng, ”I see your mind is as calm as still water; there’s no sense of being overly flattered. This calm mentality is admirable. At your age, I certainly couldn’t reach your level of composure. Even Vice Chairman Morgan, I think, couldn’t compare to you at this age.”

Bai Xiaosheng sat upright, looked earnestly at Mrs. Margery, and seriously said, ”Mrs. Margery, there are some things that you and I both know well. Since that’s the case, why beat around the bush? That’s not how wise people should converse.”

”Since you think it’s worth taking a chance on me, why not be more forthright?”

Bai Xiaosheng didn’t like the roundabout probing.

Mrs. Margery seemed to smile and yet not smile, ”Do you think I enjoy this kind of communication?”

”It’s just that when some things aren’t spoken outright, there’s still room; but once they’re explicitly stated, there’s no turning back.”

Mrs. Margery looked at Bai Xiaosheng and said, ”This past year, collaborating with Wen Yan on repetitive questioning of Vice Chairman Morgan, you really aren’t willing to stop. Aren’t you afraid of an all-out conflict?”

Bai Xiaosheng looked at Mrs. Margery with a candid expression, raised a finger, and said, ”We have one more chance to end Morgan’s reign in this battle. If I fail this time, then for the next five or ten years, no one will be able to shake him in the slightest.”

Bai Xiaosheng was reminding Mrs. Margery.

Mrs. Margery’s eyes flickered, uncertain.

After a long while, she finally said, ”When you walk out of this room today, I won’t admit anything to anyone, but this time I’m going to bet!”

”I’m betting on you!”

After saying this, Mrs. Margery seemed unprecedentedly relieved.

”Can I ask ’why’?” Bai Xiaosheng said softly.

Mrs. Margery smiled, but her face showed unprecedented exhaustion.

”I’m tired, also fed up. All of this should have an endpoint, shouldn’t it?”

”And I believe you are the one to end all of this!”
