Inheritance of Two Trillion

Chapter 2881: Chapter 2014: The Only Possibility

The next day, Bai Xiaosheng and his two companions fully enjoyed the wonderful cruise trip, exploring every interesting activity on board, running up and down the decks, and even participating in a large open-air barbecue organized by the cruise. They had an incredibly enjoyable time.

In the evening, Lai Mo and Buchi, the two brothers, found Bai Xiaosheng again.

Bai Xiaosheng and his friends took them to a nearby secluded little terrace to discuss matters.

”Sir, we finally got the chance to visit those two people’s room,” Lai Mo got straight to the point with Bai Xiaosheng.

In his words, ”those two people” referred to the old man and the middle-aged man who were with Binge’s group.

The two of them were staying on the same floor as the Lai Mo brothers, and their rooms weren’t far apart.

”Initially, neither of them went out much; they loved staying in their rooms. But eventually, they must have felt too cooped up, which gave us the opportunity,” Buchi continued.

”Did you find anything?” Bai Xiaosheng asked.

He was more interested in the results than the process.

When it came to the results, Lai Mo and Buchi put on a dejected expression, shaking their heads in unison.

”We haven’t found anything yet!” Lin Weiwei immediately felt a bit disappointed, saying directly.

”We searched both rooms carefully and thoroughly, but there wasn’t a trace of any documents. Even the briefcases they carried with them were left in their rooms, and there was nothing inside. It’s really odd. They aren’t carrying the documents with them; where could they be hiding them?” Lai Mo appeared utterly baffled, his brows knotted, ”Could it be that the important documents were checked in with the large luggage?”

Lin Weiwei couldn’t help but roll her eyes upon hearing this.

What kind of bizarre thinking would lead to such assumptions?

Documents that important don’t take up space or weigh much, so how could they be handled so carelessly?

But if they really did have the documents on them and didn’t carry a bag, where could they have put them?

Bai Xiaosheng pondered in silence, while Lei Ying also looked up at the ceiling in thought.

”Are you and your employer behind you so certain that the documents are real?” Lin Weiwei couldn’t help but voice her suspicion, ”What if those documents never existed in the first place?”

Lai Mo was taken aback by her words, muttering, ”That can’t be.”

Buchi replied seriously, ”You think the customer made a mistake; how is that possible? Customers can’t be wrong.”

That statement left Lin Weiwei both amused and exasperated.

It seems the idea of customer infallibility shouldn’t apply here.

”I was thinking, isn’t it possible that they actually sent emails or faxes instead of carrying physical documents?” Lin Weiwei suggested.

Lai Mo and Buchi suddenly felt uneasy upon hearing this.

That would mean all their efforts had been for nothing, which was hard to bear.

”I don’t think so,” Bai Xiaosheng said, slowly, ”Firstly, using emails or faxes leaves traces and isn’t entirely safe. Secondly, if they’ve already sent people to communicate, then sending emails or faxes would be redundant and meaningless.”

Bai Xiaosheng then continued, ”Also, their employer seems to have meticulous control over everything, even the room arrangements were perfect. They shouldn’t make such a basic mistake from the start.”

Hearing Bai Xiaosheng’s confident words, Lai Mo and Buchi’s eyes lit up, nodding repeatedly.

For them, after putting in so much effort and energy, realizing there was nothing to gain would be too demoralizing.

Even though Bai Xiaosheng said so, Lin Weiwei still crossed her arms and told the Lai Mo brothers, ”Still, you can’t rule out the possibility I’m suggesting. Maybe it’s a good idea to communicate further with your well-informed employer and see if they can provide any help, even if it’s just an insight.”

Lin Weiwei’s words made some sense.

Lai Mo nodded promptly, briefly informing the group before leaving temporarily, likely to contact their employer.

Soon enough, Lai Mo returned, a few traces of frustration and dejection on his face.

Sitting down, Lai Mo sighed and said, ”The people from our employer’s side told us that the documents are definitely there and instructed us to get them before the ship docks. They even questioned our capabilities...”

”Questioned our abilities!” Buchi exclaimed in disbelief.

Such words were truly a blow to them.

Bai Xiaosheng smiled faintly, ”It seems your employer is very sure.”

Just then, Lei Ying, who had remained silent, suddenly said, ”Actually, those documents might indeed be on them.”

Upon hearing this, Lai Mo and Buchi immediately looked at Lei Ying.

”What do you mean?!” Lai Mo urged.

”Think about it,” Lei Ying explained to everyone, ”What if the documents are in electronic form on a USB drive? If they also carry a small stamp to apply after printing to give the documents validity?”

Instantly, Lai Mo and Buchi’s eyes lit up, nodding repeatedly.

Lin Weiwei also nodded in agreement.

Bai Xiaosheng, following Lei Ying’s lead, continued, ”Assuming this is true, let’s imagine further. If they were really going to Wan Yu to negotiate a deal, the ’guest’ would bring the documents. We’ve analyzed before that the middle-aged man and the old man belong to different factions; only one of them would carry the documents. The old man’s behavior towards Miss Tiwei’er is more casual, so the documents should be with him.”

Lai Mo and Buchi immediately looked at Bai Xiaosheng, nodding repeatedly.

Lei Ying continued, ”If someone carries valuable items with them, they’d consciously or subconsciously pay attention to them. So if we watch carefully for any extra movements of that old man, it might give us a clue.”
