Inheritance of Two Trillion

Chapter 2860: Chapter 2004: Selfishness and Self-Interest (Part 2)

With the door closed, Caroline had yet to speak when Vice Chairman Morgan preemptively took the lead—

”Caroline, which step exactly went wrong this time, and from which side did the information leak occur?” Vice Chairman Morgan’s eyes flickered slightly as he spoke in a deep voice, ”Those unidentified troublemakers appeared suddenly and then vanished, with no follow-up. What do you think is the reason? What are they after?!

The undertone of Vice Chairman Morgan’s words seemed to carry an accusation.

As if Caroline was supposed to know.

Caroline was already feeling stifled and grew more displeased upon hearing this.

”Mr. Morgan, I have the same inquiries as you!” Caroline’s tone was unusually firm, ”You have extensive contacts and are well-connected in the business community of Oceania. If we’re talking about investigating the situation, you should be better than me at it. If you have any leads, perhaps you could let me know where the problem lies.”

Caroline’s words were tough; in her view, this matter couldn’t be blamed on them, especially since Morgan’s expectations suggested some doubt.

Vice Chairman Morgan stared into Caroline’s eyes for a long time before his expression shifted to a slight smile, ”It seems that you haven’t found any useful information on your side either.”

Caroline nodded and said sternly, ”The troublemakers know our every move well, acting with secrecy and using minimal effort for maximum effect, which indeed is astonishing. However, I believe that the most pressing issue now is not identifying these people or their intentions but rather prioritizing solving the immediate troubles.”

This was also Caroline’s true purpose for visiting Vice Chairman Morgan this time.

Hearing this, Vice Chairman Morgan seemed to agree.

”You’re right. You probably don’t know since you haven’t been at the headquarters these past few days, but the rumors have taken on a new form and are more aggressive than before! Even I can’t command those small-timers to shut their mouths! Plus, that Bai Xiaosheng has been solving issues for several companies in Oceania, boosting his reputation tremendously! What’s more, some people say that Bai Xiaosheng discovered problems with Ice Spring Valley Company and pointed the finger directly at me, the vice chairman, showing no fear of authority, and they’ve exaggerated his capabilities! This menace is getting more and more active!”

Caroline listened with a slight frown.

Not because of the rumors, nor because the conversation involved Bai Xiaosheng.

But because the trouble she spoke of was not these issues at all.

Vice Chairman Morgan may not be unaware, yet he was skirting the main issue!

”That Bai Xiaosheng’s rising fame is indeed infuriating; everything stems from him, yet he’s the biggest beneficiary! It really makes one angry!”

”The headquarters’ rumors must have had Lu Cheng’an and Li Yunyuan fanning the flames in secret; their intentions are reprehensible!”

After Caroline finished speaking, she shifted the topic, ”However, Mr. Morgan, my main reason for seeing you this time is to discuss our trouble. Golun International’s stock price has been plummeting.”

Caroline emphasized the words ”our” heavily in her speech.

After all, she bought shares based on Morgan’s advice, which was originally a profitable deal, but now it’s turned into a loss.

Yet, she didn’t complain, still placing a priority on mutual interests.

Caroline felt that she was already showing enough goodwill by doing so.

Hearing her say this, Vice Chairman Morgan furrowed his brows and nodded, ”Yes, the stock market has been declining. Caroline, do you know that some major media outlets in Oceania are particularly troublesome? They seem to have coordinated their efforts, targeting the other two shareholder companies of Golun International, delving deep in investigations. I don’t know where they found the information, but they’ve already unearthed some insider ties these two companies have with our family. At this moment, I think it’s imperative for our family to act with utmost caution, and the stock market issue is best handled with a cold approach. If we chase after the trend to rescue the stock, all our previous efforts to release shares and cut ties would be for nothing. If seen as attempting to manipulate the stock market, and someone uses it to make a fuss and involve the judicial institutions, that would be yet another problem.”

In other words, the implication was to stay temporarily content with the status quo and not to attempt to prop up the stock.

As Caroline was about to speak, Vice Chairman Morgan preempted again by saying, ”I know you’ve just invested a large amount of money and you’re upset about the stock price drop. But you also know these things are inevitable; the capital market changes at a moment’s notice. Moreover, I hold more shares, and my losses aren’t less than yours.”

With him putting it this way, Caroline truly had nothing to say.

Their own company wasn’t anxious themselves, so she couldn’t force Vice Chairman Morgan to invest money to rescue the market.

Besides, compared to this matter, Caroline was more concerned about the interests of her one or two dozen companies.

”Mr. Morgan, as we previously agreed, our family’s one or two dozen companies in Oceania were helping your companies complete key transformations. But now, our companies have suffered severe damages, with resources and markets transferred to your side. Our companies are now struggling with multiple problems, and I hope you can lend a hand.” Caroline said earnestly.

In her view, everything else could progress gradually, but not this.

Vice Chairman Morgan chuckled, ”I have heard about this, but Caroline, we originally invited you to help with the transformation, yet this time, you didn’t assist us. Moreover, it was our own companies that paid for those resources and markets; it wasn’t provided by you...”

Vice Chairman Morgan made it clear that he was unwilling to return those things.

After all, why should he? They were all bought with real money.

Even though Caroline had a good relationship with him, it was primarily maintained by interests, and it wasn’t reasonable for a few words to lead to the transfer of interests from one or two dozen companies.
