Inheritance of Two Trillion

Chapter 2756: Chapter 1958: Arduous Mission_2

Mr. Santos escorted them all the way to the elevator before stopping.

Bai Xiaosheng and the others walked out of the Lales City Hall lobby.

Standing on the tall steps at the entrance, the relieved Fei’er couldn’t help but ask Bai Xiaosheng, who looked calm, ”Mr. Bai, what do you plan to do now?”

Mollya, Lin Weiwei, and Lei Ying also turned their attention to Bai Xiaosheng.

This matter seemed resolved, but in reality, it has just begun.

Reopen the power station?

This wasn’t business, everyone felt a bit confused and surreal.

”This matter was something Miss Fei’er promised on your behalf before me, don’t you have some ideas?” Bai Xiaosheng asked calmly.

Fei’er blushed slightly.

She knew that by agreeing without consulting Bai Xiaosheng, she actually placed him at a great disadvantage, probably leaving him with no choice but to agree.

”About this matter, maybe we could contact the mechanical repair companies in other regions of the group for help?” Fei’er suggested tentatively.

The Sixth Business Division does have some companies related to large mechanical equipment, but they didn’t seem connected, and it would be Bai Xiaosheng’s job to coordinate if any support could come from other regions.

Bai Xiaosheng said indifferently, ”Let’s go and check the power station first before saying anything else.”

Fei’er quickly nodded.

Everyone made their way down the steps in front of the city hall building.

Bai Xiaosheng suddenly asked, ”Miss Fei’er, do you know the construction and maintenance costs of a tidal power station?”

Fei’er was taken aback.

How could she know? Even checking now would take some time.

”Will... it be very high? I remember Mr. Santos mentioned there was a special fund of five million US Dollars, which is quite a substantial amount.” Fei’er probed.

”Regarding this, I happen to know a bit.”

Bai Xiaosheng calmly explained, ”While you were discussing with Santos in the meeting room, I also checked. The tidal power station he mentioned, for similar equipment now, would cost at least three hundred million US Dollars to rebuild.”

Fei’er was startled, ”That expensive?!”

No one expected it to be so much!

Bai Xiaosheng brought in a support task from the group with two trillion, but it had to be distributed among thousands of enterprises in half of the business division, leaving it not very plentiful when divided.

Moreover, if restarting just a single port project costs three hundred million, it would make the already scarce funds even tighter, and it wouldn’t be easy to account for to the group.

Stunned by this amount, Fei’er even forgot to ask how Bai Xiaosheng managed to check such an obscure detail in such a short time.

Of course, even if she asked, Bai Xiaosheng had plenty of reasons to dodge.

”Perhaps the situation isn’t as severe as we think, maybe we can restart it with some maintenance.” Fei’er murmured.

Bai Xiaosheng replied nonchalantly, ”There was a similar-scale power station in Europe before, and during its major repair, just the chief engineer asked for eighty million US Dollars in remuneration alone.”

Fei’er was shocked, and everyone was also greatly astonished.

Such a price indeed leaves people speechless!

However, upon reflection, it didn’t seem unimaginably high. After all, those movie stars and renowned sports stars are truly ridiculously expensive.

The value and price of a chief engineer capable of overseeing the overhaul of the main generator of a power station seem quite reasonable in comparison...

”Why not invite that engineer to supervise the repair? Wouldn’t that work?” Fei’er suddenly felt this issue wasn’t difficult to resolve.

Bai Xiaosheng chuckled and shook his head.

”That was the price from a few years ago; that chief engineer is now serving in the European court. It’s hard to say if it’s possible to invite him, and even if invited, it’s no longer the same price, not to mention his schedule is probably already booked two or three years in advance.”

Although Bai Xiaosheng’s words sounded exaggerated, they seemed reasonable upon careful thought.

A person capable of overseeing such a large project is practically a national treasure; not easy to find.

”Then... what should we do?” Fei’er murmured.

Even if they could book, they wouldn’t have time to wait, and Kustiel likely wouldn’t agree.

”This topic circles back again, what should we do? Didn’t Mr. Bai say to go to the site first?” Lin Weiwei said with a bit of a stern face.

At this point, Lin Weiwei felt particularly uncomfortable, especially with Fei’er’s performance in the large meeting room.

Lei Ying also had a cold demeanor.

Fei’er felt a bit guilty immediately.

Mollya didn’t dare make a sound either.

Bai Xiaosheng looked at the sisters and said gently, ”Alright then, let’s split into two groups now. I’ll take the two of them to check things out. You two can go talk to Mrs. Margery about what’s happening here, and at the same time coordinate with the port construction company, ready to start anytime.”

The Fei’er sisters secretly felt relieved at Bai Xiaosheng’s arrangement and nodded repeatedly.

Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying felt displeased about this matter and were indeed reluctant to go along with the sisters.

Everyone hailed a car separately and headed to their respective destinations.

In the car, Fei’er directly called her mother, Mrs. Margery, to report the situation.

Meanwhile, Bai Xiaosheng and the others were also heading towards the port by car.

The tidal power plant was on another island, requiring a boat ride to get there.

On the way, Lin Weiwei couldn’t help but ask, ”Xiaosheng, what are you thinking now?”

To avoid the driver overhearing and leaking information, Lin Weiwei used Huaxia language.

Bai Xiaosheng also replied in Huaxia language, ”Earlier in the conference room, I checked on my phone. The situation of that power plant is not optimistic, as all four main engines have issues. The local media have described it as a ’dead beast.’ Kustiel’s authorities also believe repair is a difficult task, almost impossible.”

Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying frowned instantly and exchanged a glance.

Lin Weiwei said, ”Are we really going to rebuild a power plant for them?”

”That would severely exceed the cumulative cost of the port project. The originally planned ten-year profitability period has already been postponed by at least two years due to the clearing and construction process. If we further invest in building a tidal power plant, profitability might never happen. The group headquarters may not agree.” Lei Ying added.

Bai Xiaosheng pondered briefly.

Actually, he had asked Red Lotus for assistance in managing the repair work to see if it was feasible.

Red Lotus indicated that even the vast knowledge and data infusion would overload Bai Xiaosheng’s brain, considering that ten to twenty years of knowledge and experience would be transferred to Bai Xiaosheng in a very short time, making it too hard to handle.

Even if Red Lotus conducted the calculations, it would cause Bai Xiaosheng’s brain to overheat and steam.

Bai Xiaosheng immediately gave up on that idea.

However, this doesn’t mean there aren’t other solutions.

”Actually, setting aside that European chief engineer I mentioned earlier, there is someone who can oversee this repair project, and that person might be right in Kustiel.” Bai Xiaosheng said, ”I heard Kustiel’s officials have issued a missing person notice, but there hasn’t been any result. It seems that person doesn’t want to show up.”

Lin Weiwei and Lei Ying were amazed.

”Is there such a person?”

”Does this person want to be a hermit?”

Bai Xiaosheng shook his head, indicating he didn’t know.

He really researched it. An online report vaguely mentioned that the person once led a project, which resulted in an accident causing the deaths of over ten people including his own son, greatly traumatizing him. He left the field, changed his name, and disappeared.

Presumably, that person has reached old age.

Bai Xiaosheng also worried whether that person could still oversee repair work, as skills and knowledge cannot withstand the ravages of time.

While the three were conversing, Bai Xiaosheng’s phone rang.

Upon answering, Bai Xiaosheng realized the caller was Mrs. Margery.

On the phone, Mrs. Margery was quite dissatisfied with Bai Xiaosheng’s hasty agreement to restart the power plant, complaining about financial shortages, and claiming they needed to temporarily borrow some funds from Bai Xiaosheng’s portion, as there was no money to spare.

Bai Xiaosheng explained and soothed her until the call was finally ended.

”Obviously it was her daughter’s fault.” Lin Weiwei said angrily, ”Yet she complains.”

Bai Xiaosheng waved his hand, indicating that the matter was already settled and shouldn’t be mentioned further.

Soon after, they arrived at the port, boarded a boat, and set off to sea.

On the boat, there were quite a few passengers, Bai Xiaosheng and his group shared a table with others in a cabin.

The person at the same table was a man wearing one of those hats with a visor, making it hard to see his face, but he seemed quite young.

Bai Xiaosheng and the others didn’t pay much attention.

Midway through the journey, a group of people came in from outside the cabin, all having unfriendly appearances, inspecting every table and checking the seated passengers.

The team leader lowered his voice and said, ”Take a good look. This is the last cabin; if he’s here, he must be in here!”
