The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 544: Chapter 544 God Rewards the Meritorious

Although Song Ci was not at the Prime Minister’s Mansion, she could still hear the gossip from there, such as her eldest grandson being given a wallet.

”Oh, the melodramatic story of cousins, still not avoided in our Prime Minister’s Mansion.”

Nanny: ”From your tone, I sense a hint of mockery. Aren’t you angry?”

”What’s there to be angry about? Which young girl doesn’t cherish romantic thoughts? The awakening of love is quite normal. Moreover, our Su’er is so handsome, knowledgeable, with a good family background. His father is the Prime Minister, his mother is from the Duke Zhongyong Mansion, and both sisters are well married. He’s practically a diamond bachelor!”

Nanny: ”I’ve never seen anyone who praises their grandson so wholeheartedly as you do.”

”A good child deserves praise.” Song Ci, holding her hand, said, ”It’s just a wallet being given, not a private meeting. No need to make such a fuss; Gu shi just places too much importance on Su’er.”

”But he’s the heir with great expectations and her only son. Of course, Madam values him highly.” Nanny said, ”Even though there are others present, who knows if they’ll spread rumors? If they twist it, then it’s really like mud falling into your pants; whether it’s dirt or not, it certainly looks like it.”

Song Ci raised her eyebrows at her.

”What?”

”I’ve noticed, Nanny, that your ability to articulate is improving. Your conversation skills have really grown.”

Nanny: ”...”

Even when talking seriously, she still joked around. Can we still have a proper conversation?

Song Ci said, ”Reputation aside, actually, it’s secondary. The real issue is that the two families don’t match socially, so it’s good to have some caution. Otherwise, if something unpleasant really happens, it would be quite a thorn in the side.”

Gu shi, with her pride and ambition, would never fancy the daughter of a minor Fifth Rank official.

”That’s why Madam keeps a close watch.”

”No matter how closely she watches, she can’t keep an eye on the child every minute. The most important thing is the child’s own integrity and uprightness. I think Su’er is quite decent.”

Nanny, however, said, ”You’re not wrong, but do you realize, there’s so much filth in the inner courtyards? Sometimes, the gentlemen can’t guard against everything, and many bear the unintended responsibilities because of unfortunate incidents.”

”I find myself speechless at what you’ve said.” Song Ci said wistfully, ”Go on, if there’s anything else to advise me on. Speak, and I’ll listen.”

As an experienced elder trained in the Imperial Palace, with skills honed in palace and mansion intrigue, learning from her is truly gaining an advantage.

Nanny felt somewhat helpless.

The two of them arrived at the vegetable garden, where the farmers greeted them warmly.

Song Ci smiled and called out.

”Madam Dowager, I was just about to report to you; the potatoes have sprouted.” Chen Da said excitedly, bending over and rubbing his hands.

Song Ci was delighted and quickly walked into the garden.

”Take it easy.”

Song Ci stood in the garden, looking at the rows of land, with little green sprouts emerging at intervals. Her eyes filled with tears of joy.

Heaven has rewarded our efforts.

She had never planted potatoes before; all she knew was gathered from old villagers’ sayings, half-bumbling, half-guessing her way through.

Unexpectedly, they really did grow sprouts.

Indeed, she is the protagonist.

”In a couple more days, when the seedlings grow a bit more, cover them with a thin layer of fertilizer.” Song Ci instructed Chen Da, ”You are seasoned hands at farming; in front of you, I’m merely showing off. If what I say is inappropriate, feel free to bring it up, for you are the ones with experience.”

”Madam Dowager, you’re too kind. Without your guidance, how would we know how to plant?”

”Anyway, I’ve said my piece. Once we can harvest, then the credit will all be yours.” Song Ci said excitedly.
