The Valued Lady is Truly Dominant

Chapter 531: Chapter 531: Impressive, My Madam

Song Ci had been in Great Qing for over a year, but it was her first time going to another family’s mourning, and she felt somewhat listless upon returning.

Nanny was a bit worried and hurriedly invited Lin Qing over to take her pulse, fearing she might be reminded of something bad and make herself sick.

Song Ci didn’t stop her.

Lin Qing carefully took her pulse, looked at Song Ci’s tongue and eyelids, and asked teasingly, ”Didn’t you sleep last night?”

Song Ci’s eyes flickered, and she mumbled.

Nanny: ”Were you pretending to sleep?”

Last night, she kept vigil, got up in the middle of the night to check if Song Ci had kicked off her quilt or was awake. At that time, she seemed to be sleeping soundly.

Now it seems she was pretending.

Impressive, her Madam, who acted just like she was truly asleep!

Song Ci retorted, ”I didn’t!”

Seeing the looks of ’there’s no need to argue, we saw through it’ on their faces, she said sheepishly, ”I did sleep, just woke up quickly.”

After waking, she thought of that Madam Zhang, who usually looked so full of vitality that there wasn’t a sign of illness. Why did she suddenly pass away?

That lady seemed to have just celebrated her 60th birthday recently, right?

Thinking this made her reflect on herself; one never knows when life unexpectedly ends. Madam Zhang reportedly passed away in her sleep, and it was only in the morning that the maids realized she was gone.

Song Ci thought at the time, even though she left peacefully, it’s a bit too lonely and desolate to go with no one around.

Sigh.

”You’re overthinking things, which has caused some internal heat. I’ll prescribe a couple of remedies for you to take.” Lin Qing said.

Song Ci shivered slightly and protested, ”Is that necessary? For internal heat, why take medicine? I won’t take it!”

”Your gums are already a bit swollen; if you don’t take it, they may swell even more. Then you won’t be able to eat anything tasty and will have to drink plain porridge.” Lin Qing ignored her protest.

Song Ci pressed her mouth, feeling that her gums were swollen and painful, then bargained, ”Just don’t put in coptis.”

Lin Qing smirked, ”Without coptis, how to clear the heat? Rest assured, I’ve made two jars of candied fruits; you can have some.”

Nearby, Niu Pan’er’s eyes lit up, ”Two jars?”

Lin Qing nodded with a smile, ”One jar is extremely sour. I’ll have Sang’er bring it to you later, but you mustn’t eat it like a meal.”

Niu Pan’er said, ”Then I won’t be polite. Thank you.”

Lin Qing smiled casually, not minding.

She followed Song Ci to stay at the Prince Mansion for a while. With the Commandery Princess’ favor, the servants didn’t dare look down on her, serving her attentively. Reciprocal kindness, giving some candied fruits to Niu Pan’er was nothing.

She wrote the prescription and advised Song Ci, ”This first dose has some calming herbs, take it, then sleep in and don’t overthink. It’s not good for your health.”

Song Ci sighed deeply, ”I can’t control myself. The last time I saw Madam Zhang was at Qi’er’s wedding. Back then, she could still drink a few cups with me. How long has it been? She wasn’t even ill or in pain, just suddenly gone. It shows that once one is old, they are always ready to be summoned by King Yan. Who knows when my turn will come!”

Everyone’s faces slightly changed.

Niu Pan’er said teasingly, ”Mother, you’re overthinking. You wouldn’t bear to leave us yet. Besides, are you still planning to plant those potatoes? You better focus on how to grow them; otherwise, I’ll take them to the kitchen to fry shredded potatoes.”

Song Ci’s attention was immediately diverted, ”Oh, no, once potatoes sprout, they can’t be eaten; they’re poisonous and shouldn’t be consumed much.”

She had forgotten about this entirely; in the future, even if she managed to grow them, she had to remind everyone that sprouted potatoes were inedible!
