One-Eyed Monster

The Soul Devourer Master could not summon new bodies; he couldn’t release energy, nor could he devour and collect energy. Thus, his entire shell was battered by countless Resistors until it was beyond recognition.

The emotions he once discarded surged toward him like runaway wild horses, madly trampling him. These wild horses were relentless, leaving deep marks as they stampeded over him.

Fear, sadness, loss... those things he had once abandoned left their marks on him again, and the deepest mark was loneliness.

This loneliness drove him, in the past, to wildly pursue powerful strength. After finally obtaining this power, he even forgot who he was. It’s a sad thing, yet he didn’t feel any regret, as if acquiring that energy was the most important thing for him. As long as he obtained energy, everything would come, all those things he abandoned would return.

When he stood at the peak, everything would be under his control.

A guy who forgets even himself is destined to be lonely.

The powerful strength allowed him to do whatever he pleased, yet he always felt like he had lost something, something he couldn’t quite articulate. That feeling was like strings, difficult to sever, entangling his fragile heart, tugging at it here and there, never letting it rest.

Having power made him feel increasingly dissatisfied, as if there was something else he couldn’t obtain.

That feeling of loneliness always entangled him, but he didn’t know that it was loneliness.

He always thought it was because he stayed in the Border Realm, so he recklessly pursued power, never letting that realm be at peace.

The power drove him to constantly occupy others’ consciousness, increasingly hiding his loneliness.

Apart from constantly pursuing power, in order to leave the Border Realm, he didn’t know what else to do.

He didn’t know why, despite being so powerful, he always sought others’ approval, especially that of his opponents. He could have easily ended fights, but he insisted on subduing his opponents, as if only that could bring peace to his emotionless yet restless heart.

Gaining others’ approval, being able to subdue a few experts, was what he wanted most in the Border Realm.

His restless heart always hoped for some followers at his feet, not ones who submitted to his power, but ones who revered it...

Sometimes he envied that Resistor leader, but ultimately, he still believed that without power, there was nothing...

Now, being beaten by a group of Resistors, he was powerless to fight back, bringing him from the heavens back down to earth. Those runaway wild horses ravaged him for a long time, their trampling far harsher than the Resistors’ punches and kicks. This emotional trampling gradually brought him new memories.

In this life, he had devoured far too many consciousnesses, leaving many souls restless, and their last struggles flashed through his mind one by one.

Some were scared out of their wits at the last moment, others felt nothing when being devoured, but some faced it calmly, even with a smile.

He couldn’t understand why people reacted so differently; to him, everyone should bow to power, accepting being devoured as their only chance to become strong...

In the past, when he faced immense power, he chose to bow...

In those days...

He suddenly remembered himself, that weak, unwilling self.

That self was too weak, seeking others’ approval, but weak people are ultimately cowardly, unable to face others’ challenges or fight for their rightful possessions.

He watched the bullies burn his properties, saw his beloved suffer because of his cowardice, watched everything being stripped away, bowing to demons without any resistance.

He pleaded with those demons for his life, willing to give up anything...

The demons, with their hideous faces, spared his life, making him a living dead.

Weak people have no choices, not even choosing to be themselves.

He distinctly remembered it being the demons’ final words.

Forgetting who he was, he suddenly found unprecedented strength, and, endless loneliness...

The path to becoming the Soul Devourer Master held few stories.

The demons let him keep his body, overtook his consciousness, making him someone else...

The remnants of consciousness, exactly that endless loneliness...

It turns out... that was the meaning of the Resistors!

The loneliness in the Soul Devourer Master’s heart suddenly elevated, which was his original self, a person he had abandoned!

And at this moment, the identity of the Soul Devourer Master also collapsed!

His consciousness was trapped within the Spirit Binding Net, unable to emerge. Within this net were scattered remnants of consciousness he once devoured; they never forgot to resist...

Their resistance finally allowed the original consciousness of the Soul Devourer Master to be released...

Though that person had once been weak, giving up everything, he never forgot to survive; that lonely survival instinct always lingered within his consciousness.

The Resistors ceased their attack; the broken shell was beyond recognition, rolling on the ground, those rebellious consciousnesses making their final struggle.

Within the inescapable Spirit Binding Net, countless consciousnesses rolled repeatedly, releasing their lingering emotions. These broken consciousnesses were no longer whole, much like the Soul Devourer Master himself, they no longer existed...

”It’s over...” Igor observed the twisted shell, barely supporting his body. His consciousness was struck by energy, not entirely dissipated, barely maintained...

”The Soul Devourer Master is finished, but the Border Realm hasn’t ended!” Sol said.

Igor nodded; he now felt top-heavy, as if about to lose his consciousness...

”No!” That twisted shell suddenly screamed, startling Igor back to awareness. Could the Soul Devourer Master possibly revive?

”It’s over here!” The voice shouted excitedly, ”This Intersection failed! I never thought it would collapse like this!”
