One-Eyed Monster

”You don’t understand our master; what you said won’t happen.” The skeleton knight remained stubborn, knowing that this resistor’s leader had clashed with their master before and somewhat understood the master.

Although they were their master’s subordinates, their understanding of their master was possibly less than that of a resistor’s leader, because they feared their master and almost never took the initiative to understand him.

They were afraid that if their master found out that one of them was secretly researching him, they would be devoured; no one was foolish enough to run into the volcano.

The only people who dared to do so were those who opposed their master.

And this person was right here, speaking ill of their master.

Igor was getting anxious on the side; things weren’t going well. It would be better to beat this guy up again. He felt Sol wasn’t very reliable either. Just as he rolled up his sleeves and prepared to step forward, he was held back by the Mos Brothers.

”Don’t get excited, the leader has his way!”

”But...”

”No buts, our years of experience tell us that things are progressing smoothly!”

Igor was bewildered, not understanding what these two were talking about. He couldn’t see any progress at all; this kind of conversation was less effective than beating up the skeleton knight.

Sometimes, fear is born from pain, but sometimes, the fear produced by pain is not effective. Pain can become numb, and fear as well.

What Sol brought to the skeleton knight was not only pain but also helplessness and the unknown. This unknown was the real power.

The skeleton knight had reached a state where he didn’t care about pain because, during his service to his master, such things were too common. They were always under this fear, and their ability to endure it came from the hope their master gave them.

Devouring others’ consciousness, taking over their bodies, and returning to that world was the greatest motivation for the Soul Devourers.

With this motivation, they continued to devour, but in the end, they found that devouring others was easy, and taking over others’ consciousness was also easy. However, returning to that world with a body was not easy.

Because they were bound, bound by their master. Only when the master allowed them to return could they go back to that world.

The power was in the master’s hands; whoever the master allowed to return could return.

To go back, they must complete the tasks assigned by their master continuously. Becoming knights by the master’s side would give them the opportunity to return to that world.

Therefore, the three knights beside the Soul Devourer Master changed again and again...

The skeleton knight was one of them. He originally thought that by achieving great merit this time and bringing the youngster back, he would possibly have the chance to return to that world. But who knew, his mission actually failed, and it failed again and again...

His master might very well ignore him, as the resistor’s leader said. It’s uncertain; by now there could be a new knight...

Then what will happen to him next? Even if this group of resistors released him completely, what would he do? Wander aimlessly across the land? What meaning would his previous efforts have?

He didn’t want to face such a future; it would be very powerless. Nor did he want to face his master because he really didn’t know how his master would treat him!

”Feeling downcast, aren’t you?” Sol began to speak again. He had sensed it; his plan was more than halfway successful. The skeleton knight was already shaken.

The unease about the future and the unknown made this skeleton knight begin to doubt his previous judgment.

”Even so, I won’t become a resistor.” Although the skeleton knight said this, he suddenly felt that becoming a resistor might not be bad.

”You overthink. The resistor team wouldn’t accept trash like you; you’re just a bastard, not fit to be a resistor!” Sol stated firmly.

”Then why are you telling me all this?”

”No reason. We resistors don’t need any reason to teach you Soul Devourers a lesson. You can stay here in peace until your master or the next knight devours you.”

...The skeleton knight was left speechless.

”And we resistors will take this youngster your master wants and continue to resist.”

The skeleton knight suddenly felt a sense of loss. He suddenly realized that having such a large energy reserve, yet ultimately finding himself with nowhere to belong.

What use is being strong in the Border Realm? In the end, it’s just a lingering consciousness, unable to obtain a body, nor defeat the one at the top. Now even his former opponents began to disdain him; this feeling was really unpleasant.

He used to be on top of the world, and he could have gained the master’s recognition and returned to that world with a body. But now, everything has changed.

What was the source of all this? What made him so unbearable?

Was it that mission?

Or the person who caused the mission?

The skeleton knight gradually found the source. The source of his failed life was that boy who stirred up chaos upon arriving at the Border Realm!

”You!” Although the skeleton knight was an amalgamation of various devoured consciousnesses, speaking without any emotion, his emotions were still roiling inside. The monotone could not convey emotion, but the content could still reflect the fluctuations in his heart.

At this moment, the skeleton knight was clearly talking about Igor; now all his resentment was on Igor.

”You, causing waves just by arriving here, the master said you have the scent of the same kind on you, and said you’re the entire key. While I am foolish and don’t understand it, since the master wants your power, I must help the master capture you.”

Although the skeleton knight was venting, he inadvertently revealed their goal, which they pursued at all costs.

Sol didn’t care about the rest, but when he heard Igor was the key, Sol was stunned.

This key, could it be referring to the means to connect?

If it really is like this, then he understood why this master was willing to do anything to get a complete Igor.

This is to break the rule of connecting the Border Realm and the world!

It was impossible to see that Igor had such power.

Igor also couldn’t imagine that Stan Sol’s rambling would make the skeleton knight confess on his own; it truly had a good effect. He must definitely learn this way of interrogation when he gets the chance. Because it worked well.
