One-Eyed Monster

This completely went out of control.

Without a way to interrogate, there’s no way to find out why Igor attracted the attention of the Soul Devourer Master.

If such a result takes shape, then won’t everything they did before be in vain?

Did they go through the trouble of capturing one of the three knights just to vent their anger?

Did they risk so much just for a moment of satisfaction?

As the leader of the Resistors, Tobin Sol finds this a bit unacceptable.

Although the members are happy, having vented their anger and being in a state of excitement, Tobin knows that this isn’t a sustainable way forward. If they continue like this, their current location will gradually be exposed. The number of Soul Devourers far exceeds theirs, and if they don’t remain careful now, the consequences in the future will be unimaginable.

Although this attack was executed with style and was satisfying, failing to obtain what they wanted made these efforts seem not worth it.

But Igor doesn’t know all these things. His impulsiveness made him completely unleash himself at this moment.

Tobin Sol is always the leader of the Resistors. He has to be responsible for the entire group. He had agreed to Igor’s plan because he couldn’t find a breakthrough with Igor. Now, if they can’t get any results from interrogating this skeleton knight, he won’t be able to forgive himself.

Igor’s interrogation ended before it even started.

Now their punching and kicking can’t threaten this skeleton knight anymore. After all, it’s not flesh. Once they understand this, their method of attack will be ineffective.

The skeleton knight is in a state of contradiction, but he knows one thing clearly, that even if his master doesn’t avenge him, these Resistors can’t do anything against him. He had already judged this before. So now he’s completely relaxed, and he’s made it his mission to explore the weak points of this barrier.

The skeleton knight feels he must bring something back for his master in exchange for not being devoured by him.

At this moment, Tobin Sol feels they can’t let Igor act so recklessly anymore. Now adjustments must be made, even if it means digging, they have to extract some information from this skeleton knight.

So Tobin decisively called off their physical assault—it’s not the time to resort to brute force.

This change puzzled the skeleton knight: ”What’s wrong, why did you stop, trying something new?”

”Yes, trying something new,” Tobin Sol replied calmly.

”No matter what new tricks you try, don’t think capturing me means you’ve ascended.”

”Whether we ascend or not doesn’t matter, your master won’t come back to help you anyway,” Igor sneered at the skeleton knight.

”Eventually, you’ll be devoured by my master. Your fate is worse than mine!” The skeleton knight quickly retaliated against the mockery.

Tobin Sol remained silent, just looking at the skeleton knight. His strategy differed from Igor’s. While Igor used physical torture out of anger, Tobin’s approach involves psychological torment. Although uncertain about the outcome, it was the unexplored nature of these Soul Devourers that concerned him.

Low-rank Soul Devourers lack complete consciousness, and are entirely tools; every Resistor in the Border Realm knows this.

Soul Devourers from intermediate to high rank possess complete consciousness, but it’s not truly free, always bound by some power, restricting their freedom of action. This is the crucial reason why no useful information has been obtained from them.

Now, having caught a high-rank King Realm Soul Devourer, one with full consciousness and freedom of movement, whether they can extract valuable information from him remains to be seen by Tobin.

In the Border Realm, Tobin is considered the person most familiar with Soul Devourers. Without him, capturing this skeleton knight would be impossible.

The brief silence made the skeleton knight uneasy. He knew he was a captive now and the silence made him a bit restless...

”Have you run out of ideas?” the skeleton knight asked, his uneasiness turning into such a powerless question. He just wanted to know what these Resistors intended to do.

A bolt of lightning struck the skeleton knight directly, without any hesitation, causing him to tremble!

”This new trick can’t do anything to me!”

”True, it can’t do anything to you. If we shatter you, you’ll recover by consuming others, like a bottomless pit with no end.”

”Good you know. Since you know this, you should obediently let me go, and then come with me back to my master.”

”You’re overthinking it!” Tobin Sol said.

”What?”

”The lightning bolt just now was a reminder—you will always remain like this.”

”What do you mean?”

”Your master will eventually abandon you. He won’t let you return,” Sol continued. He understood that dealing with these high-rank Soul Devourers couldn’t rely on brute force alone; it would have no effect. They have a master who is all-powerful, a god-like existence, therefore, even the strongest forces before them are but symbols.

They are not afraid.

What they truly fear is loss.

Losing the chance to return to the world of embodied existence.

”As long as I can bring back what my master wants, I won’t be abandoned,” the skeleton knight’s voice was devoid of emotion, but others could detect an underlying unease within his words.

”Even you don’t believe that, do you? You’ve failed so many times, and now you’ve been captured by us. How could your master want a weakling like you!”

”I’m not weak!”

”Can you break free from bondage?”

...

The skeleton knight gradually fell silent.

”Don’t think you’ll gain anything here. I’ve been observing you—you’ve been trying to find the weak point of this barrier, right?”

...

”I can tell you, this barrier is time-limited, and it just hides the surrounding environment, nothing special.”

Everyone was shocked at Tobin seeing him reveal the barrier’s weakness to the skeleton knight. They couldn’t understand why!

Especially Igor couldn’t understand.

Tobin seeks a result, and to get that result, he must employ a different method of interrogation.

Whether they can get a result from this skeleton knight depends on whether Tobin’s method is effective.
