Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Unexpected Casualties

The four people guarding the entrance saw Su Changxing enter the police station again, and started whispering among themselves.

With long hair and dressed somewhat eccentrically, Yan Xu commented, ”Speaking of which, that guy’s archery skills are really impressive, almost never missing. Definitely a master archer, just like that person our old literature teacher told us about who could shoot an arrow through a narrow gap from a hundred steps away. What was his name again?”

Next to him, Huang Tao, who had a student-like demeanor, chimed in, ”Yang Youji from the Chu Kingdom during the Warring States period. Although, Huang Zhong from the Three Kingdoms period also comes to mind.”

Yan Xu nodded confidently, ”Yes, yes, that’s him.”

Standing in the middle, wearing a denim jacket, Cheng Chong said:

”He’s really good, but I feel like we’re being underestimated. Boss and he are cleaning up the zombies inside while we’re just standing outside watching.”

Huang Tao hesitated, ”But Brother Huang told us to just guard outside.”

Cheng Chong said confidently, ”Listen to me, when the zombies get to the door, we’ll rush in to help. We should be able to take out a wave of zombies directly. Even if Boss Huang doesn’t say it, we still need to take the initiative. Don’t you think that’s right?”

Yan Xu nodded in agreement, ”Our old boss used to say that as well.”

With newfound confidence, Huang Biao stood at the front of the stairs, shouting vulgarities, ”Zombies! Your Grandpa Huang is back. If you have the guts, come up here.”

The air fell silent again, with no expected footsteps or piercing screams.

Seeing the lack of response, Huang Biao continued cursing.

”I’ll be damned, if you dare, come up here today.”

”I swear, if you don’t come up, I’ll come down.”

...

Huang Biao cursed at full throttle for a minute, feeling a bit parched, yet the creature seemed to have fallen asleep, showing no reaction.

Has the bug been fixed?

Just when Su Changxing thought the creature realized it was just handing them free points, Huang Biao pulled the fuse and threw the Signal Stick down.

A few seconds later, screams echoed through the corridor once again.

Alright, seems like it’s only been partially fixed; fixed, but not completely.

Su Changxing aimed at the stairway entrance, shooting the moment a zombie appeared, then quickly ran back, firing another arrow a few steps away.

However, although this arrow hit the zombie’s head, the aim was off and did not kill it.

He observed the number of zombies, still seven this time. Could this mean the creature can only control up to seven zombies?

After Su Changxing killed two zombies, Huang Biao’s people rushed in from outside, ready to take out the remaining few zombies together.

But just then, the screams unexpectedly rang out again.

Under the cover of screams, these people lost their fighting ability entirely, and a long-haired man even collapsed on the spot.

Su Changxing guessed that this long-haired man’s spirit was below normal, being overwhelmed by the screams even from this position.

The zombies were ferocious, with someone getting injured immediately; Cheng Chong in the denim jacket was knocked down by a zombie.

By the time Su Changxing decapitated the zombie, a chunk of flesh was already missing from Cheng Chong’s shoulder, exposing white bone amidst the flesh, with bright red blood flowing everywhere.

Huang Biao looked at the injured on the ground, cursing, ”Didn’t I tell you to just guard outside?”

There’s no medical aid here, and such severe injuries likely mean death, dying slowly in agony.

The other two were also a bit at a loss, not expecting the power of the screams or the zombies’ combat prowess.

Lying on the ground, Cheng Chong cried in agony, struggling, ”Brother Huang, I won’t die, right? You said you’d get me out of this hellhole. You promised.”

Huang Biao looked grim. He thought everything was going smoothly, not expecting such an accident. Taking a deep breath, he said, ”You guys carry the two of them back and ask Dr. Zhao what to do.”

Huang Biao glanced back at Su Changxing, smiling apologetically, ”These young guys don’t know their limits. If they die, it’s their own fault. Let’s keep going.”

Su Changxing nodded without responding, thinking he’s also young himself.

Lin Xiuyu confidently declared, ”Someone’s been injured. They’ll surely retreat now.”

Then, the screams, audible from a distance, sounded again below.

Cai Jing lowered her head, wiping her binoculars with a sleeve, ”Looks like they went back in.”

Lin Xiuyu rubbed his chin, pondering, ”Are they trying to tire that creature out?”

Sticking to the previous procedure, Huang Biao stood at the stair entrance throwing Signal Sticks, while Su Changxing stood behind with his bow.

The scream sounded as a horde of zombies rushed forward.

After taking down one zombie with his bow, Su Changxing noticed that there were only six zombies this time, not seven.

Could this indicate that these are the last zombies left below?

After he took down two more zombies with the Shadow Bow, the screams echoed again. The creature seemed increasingly agitated, screaming more frequently.

This time, Su Changxing retreated to the edge of the police station, choosing not to exit completely but instead raising his Steel Saber to counterattack.

Su Changxing knocked down the nearest zombie with his body and decapitated another zombie with the Steel Saber.

At the same time, Huang Biao also finished off a zombie.

After Su Changxing beheaded the last zombie, he looked at the stair entrance and said, ”This batch only had six zombies. Maybe these were the last ones in the police station, and we don’t have many Signal Sticks left.”

”So we’re going down?” Huang Biao immediately understood Su Changxing’s intention.

”Yeah, let’s rest for a bit before heading down.”

Su Changxing stepped out the door, took a water bottle from his backpack, and took a big gulp.

Huang Biao followed him out and unabashedly said, ”Su Changxing, let me have a sip.”

Su Changxing took another bottle from his bag and tossed it to Huang Biao, noting his weary expression, likely due to the continuous screaming.

Huang Biao took the bottle and downed half of it in one go, wetting his dry lips, seemingly revitalized, and shouted loudly:

”Refreshing! To be honest, with our water shortage, I only had a small sip all morning.”

Su Changxing was a bit surprised. Huang Biao, as the leader of a small group, shouldn’t be lacking water. Thinking it over, he said, ”So that’s why you’re sneakily drinking my water?”

Huang Biao laughed heartily without any embarrassment, ”How can you call it sneaking? Can’t a brother offer a drink?”

Su Changxing decisively said, ”Yeah, this will go on your tab.”
