Chapter 40: Chapter 40: My Big Brothers

Brother Tan sat on the ground, watching the person in front of him raise an axe. At that moment, he had no way to dodge and could only close his eyes, awaiting the arrival of death.

But death did not arrive as expected. Opening his eyes, he found that, at some unknown time, an arrow had appeared on the forehead of the middle-aged man.

The axe in the middle-aged man’s hand fell to the ground. He stood rigidly in place for a few seconds, then fell to the ground.

”He’s actually dead, dead.”

Brother Tan was panting heavily out of fear, only feeling that after the collapse of order, all sorts of monsters and devils had emerged, and he actually encountered such a ruthless killer.

Although he wasn’t a good person himself, having been a small-time thug before, he had never thought of killing someone. He certainly hadn’t killed anyone, nor had he even fought much. Most of the time, he just joined in to boost numbers and make a show.

Whoever had more people was tougher.

”Haha, they’re all dead.”

Brother Tan laughed with a sobbing voice. Although these two brothers had only known him for a few days, they got along well, and even swore brotherhood like in the Three Kingdoms. It seemed that being together in this dystopia meant little to them.

”Don’t talk nonsense. I’m not dead, and neither are you.”

A voice came from a distance.

Brother Tan saw a person with a longbow on their back and a large saber in hand slowly walking in the darkness, knowing that it was this person who had just taken action.

Su Changxing looked at the person on the ground with tears and snot streaming down, and said calmly, ”If you’re fine, you should leave here.”

Brother Tan wiped the tears from his face, got up, and said, ”Thank you for saving me, brother. I’ll leave now.”

”Yeah, hurry up.”

Su Changxing casually picked up a mobile phone from the ground; these were all points.

The phone transformed into light and shadow in Su Changxing’s hand and disappeared.

In an instant, he had gained 2730 points. Su Changxing couldn’t help but sigh, no matter the era, robbery is always the quickest way to get money.

Robbing escorts in ancient times, banks later, and now plundering phones.

Brother Tan watched the person pick up the phone from the ground, feeling some familiarity, pondering, ”Are you the Steel Saber Maniac?”

Huh?

What the heck?

Su Changxing slung the steel saber over his shoulder, stared at him, and questioned, ”What did you say?”

”Haha, nothing much. Today, I saw a post with someone who looked a bit like you, big brother.” Brother Tan thought for a moment, then said seriously, ”Does big brother need a lackey? I, Brother Tan, am a skilled lackey and can handle any odd or tiring jobs.”

Su Changxing raised an eyebrow, surprised to find someone who had seen that post, then asked, ”What do you mean by being a skilled lackey?”

Brother Tan quickly explained, ”I’ve got lots of experience being a lackey. Don’t judge by my appearance. I’m actually in the scene, often working as a lackey for different big brothers.”

Different big brothers’ lackey?

Why does that sound so awkward?

Su Changxing asked curiously, ”So what happened to your previous big brothers?”

Brother Tan thought for a moment and said, ”Some got caught, some quit after getting injured, and some...”

Glancing at the corpse on the ground, Su Changxing said expressionlessly, ”So if you don’t want to die, you’d better leave now.”

Brother Tan felt some regret, having lost a huge opportunity. He had vowed to find the most ruthless guy to follow, but estimated that if he didn’t leave now, he wouldn’t be able to. Turning, he jogged off into the distance.

Just then, a piercing screech came from the direction Brother Tan was fleeing, and something glowing with purple light in the darkness came sprinting at them, trailing a faint purple shadow.

Brother Tan instantly turned around and ran back towards Su Changxing.

Without any hesitation, Su Changxing dashed towards the direction of the Mysterious Shop. He couldn’t see what that thing looked like, but intuition told him that running away was the wise choice.

The footsteps of the purple monster were heavy, approaching quickly from behind him.

This sense of oppression was intense. Su Changxing felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up and quickened his pace further, thinking that the creature would attack Brother Tan first, and he could definitely get into the Mysterious Shop to hide for a while.

But after a few seconds, the sound of footsteps was still present and getting closer. Su Changxing looked back and found the monster bypassing Brother Tan and charging at him.

Meanwhile, Brother Tan was sprinting off in the opposite direction, shouting, ”Brother, I won’t forget the favor you did me today. Sorry!”

From this distance, Su Changxing could see clearly that the monster’s skin had purple scales, and its eyes glowed in the dark like two purple gems. It appeared to be about three meters tall.

”Damn, I’m not his brother!”

Su Changxing cursed, then threw the steel saber back at the monster, lightening himself to increase his speed further.

Due to being a Master of Archery, Su Changxing now had some proficiency with all ranged weapons, including throwing weapons. The steel saber aimed accurately at the purple monster.

The monster swung its arm, deflecting it, but its speed was somewhat impacted.

At this moment, Su Changxing stood on the white light, looking back at the monster as a large black claw appeared in his view, with the pressure of its swing feeling palpable.

The next moment, Su Changxing’s figure vanished into the white light, and the monster missed, crashing into a wall, leaving cracks in the red brick.

Angry shrieks echoed under the night sky.

”What kind of terrifying monster is that, making a hole in the wall?”

Shen Jinxuan gaped, dumbstruck, as she sat on the rooftop watching the scene below, muttering, ”I hope he didn’t die.”

She had been in that position before Su Changxing arrived, recognizing him as the man she saw climbing the building yesterday because most people wouldn’t scale buildings.

She had watched the whole process of Su Changxing as the opportunist, but then another monster appeared.

She was quite grateful to Su Changxing and didn’t really want him to die. Not only had he given her food, but he also helped clear the building of zombies, allowing her to scavenge some supplies from it.

Afterward, she followed Su Changxing’s suggestion and moved towards this area.

As for why she was on the rooftop, she had fallen asleep in a room and then groggily ended up on the roof, where she saw Su Changxing climbing the building.

”My sleep disorder seems to be getting worse.”

Shen Jinxuan yawned, feeling the heavy drowsiness again. She had a severe sleep disorder, which worsened after the Doomsday Game started.

Su Changxing collapsed on the ground, cold sweat trickling from his forehead. After taking a deep breath, he finally calmed down completely.

Although he had estimated he could enter the Mysterious Shop, there was still a discrepancy between estimation and reality.

If the monster had been slightly faster, or if he had been slightly slower, the outcome would certainly have been different.

”Why did that monster pass Brother Tan and attack me directly?”

Su Changxing frowned, feeling it was unreasonable. It might have been because his body was stronger and attracted the monster, but that explanation seemed flimsy.
