Chapter 4: Chapter 4: One Slash, One Kill

Su Changxing glanced over his character attributes and felt reassured. With his current power and speed, if he found the right angle, he should be able to split a zombie’s brain with one slash.

He already had a plan in mind: first, find a relatively safe place to spend the night.

He didn’t know how these zombies identified the location of enemies, but at night, human vision is limited, which is disadvantageous for Su Changxing.

Su Changxing stepped on the corpse of a zombie, bent down, and walked into the corridor. Darkness was all he could see, a heavy smell lingered in the air, and faint growling sounded in his ears.

There were still zombies on this floor.

Due to the strengthening of his body, his senses had become sensitive, and even from a distance, Su Changxing could hear the growling of zombies.

Su Changxing made a quick judgment to deal with the zombies first. It’s better to address the danger directly than let it come to him.

He lightened his footsteps, crouched his body, followed the sound, and moved forward slowly in the corridor, step by step.

It was very quiet around, and Su Changxing could feel his heartbeat. The growling became clearer as he moved.

Very close now.

Su Changxing walked in the middle of the hallway, took another small step forward, and a loud growl came from ahead, followed by heavy footsteps.

”So fast.”

A dark figure darted out from the doorway, rushing toward Su Changxing’s face, its speed exceeding his expectations.

However, Su Changxing remained calm. Having already experienced despair, he didn’t panic in the face of life or death and planned to go all out.

He calculated the zombie’s speed, raised his Steel Saber, and timed his slash perfectly.

Swish~

Blood splattered everywhere.

As if predetermined, the zombie’s head collided perfectly with the blade, the Steel Saber embedded into the center of the zombie’s skull, halting its movements abruptly.

[Zombie killed, 10 Points]

One lethal strike, very much as Su Changxing had imagined. With his current power combined with the Steel Saber, he could kill a zombie in one hit.

Of course, it was also because these zombies were utterly mindless and charged blindly, losing even the instinct humans have to protect their weak points.

Normal humans, facing an incoming slash, would instinctively use their hands to block, even if unable to dodge.

”At night, zombie speed seems to increase significantly, surpassing average humans, potentially reaching quadruple speed. This means when humans encounter zombies at night, they have to fight; escaping is not possible.”

Su Changxing felt a bit heavy-hearted. These zombies were not as simple as imagined. If it were only zombies with daytime speed, he could handle three or four. But encountering two at night with this speed might be too much.

Fortunately, after carefully searching this floor, Su Changxing didn’t find a second zombie. Yet as night fell, his visibility was decreasing, and this was dangerous.

If only there were something to provide light.

Suddenly, Su Changxing remembered the phone in his pocket. The phone should be able to provide illumination, even if the light might be weak.

To his surprise, the phone wasn’t emitting any external light, yet he could see the text and images on the screen.

What kind of black technology was this? It glows, yet doesn’t completely glow.

No choice but to rely on weak moonlight to explore this floor. He only wanted to find a safe place to rest overnight.

This was likely an office building, and most of the room doors were wooden, completely unable to block the steps of zombies. Sleeping inside at night couldn’t ensure safety.

Su Changxing walked another round along the corridor on this floor, still not finding a suitable place, feeling mildly disappointed. At this moment, he suddenly noticed a half-person high hatch at the corner of the hallway.

This should be a storage room.

Knocked with his hand, the door was iron, solid enough.

Su Changxing opened the door, finding it pitch-black inside without any peculiar smell, which proved there were at least no zombies inside. Squatting down to crawl inside, he discovered the space was quite ample, enough to accommodate him.

”Clang~”

He closed the iron door with his hand and locked it.

Only then did Su Changxing relax, letting out a sigh of relief, sitting inside the storage room. He spent two Points in the discount store to exchange for water and bread.

Su Changxing took a bite of the bread, very fluffy with a hint of sweetness and warmth, as if freshly taken from the oven.

Even with just bread, Su Changxing felt very satisfied. For most people, tonight would be a hungry night.

He opened the forum, his eyes twitching involuntarily.

[Survivors: 9.5 billion]

In just a few hours, 500 million people had already died. Such a death rate was chilling, about equal to the death toll of seven world wars.

”The death toll will continue to increase until humanity adapts to this Doomsday World, and the rate will slow but not stop······”

Su Changxing did not know how many would be left after thirty days. Because the survival rate isn’t only threatened by zombies but also by food and water scarcity.

However, Su Changxing felt this city’s buildings hadn’t been abandoned for very long, suggesting that a considerable amount of supplies might still be preserved.

Another question, whether this world is a post-apocalyptic True World or a created Doomsday World······

During this brief time, the forum saw numerous hot posts appear.

Even in a doomsday scenario, there would always be a handful of elite humans living very well, still considering others.

Feng Hua Mao: Urgent news, zombie speed will greatly increase at night, extremely dangerous, so all of you just need to hide well then.

Reply 1: Got it, thanks for the tip, master.

Reply 2: I had already hidden before it got dark.

······

This was quite similar to Su Changxing’s experience, where zombie speed greatly increased at night. It was unclear why this happened—could it be that zombie cell activity is inhibited by sunlight?

From the Stars: I’m lucky; found some cans at my birthplace, but no water. Now trading cans for a bottle of water.

Small Stomach: Anyone need a wooden stick? I’m trading sticks for food.

······

The forum was already flooded with posts trading food and water. Many realized that if they didn’t have food, they’d have to leave their hiding places tomorrow to search for supplies.

Once out looking for food, they’d face zombie threats, and many didn’t have the courage to confront zombies, even if they had the chance to defeat them.

Su Changxing pondered for a moment and posted a strategy guide.

Lucky Child: Although zombies are very strong, their intelligence is low, with no apparent logical thinking ability. Consider using obstacles or traps to skillfully kill them.

This was important experience Su Changxing gained during today’s confrontation with zombies. No other hot post mentioned it, so he posted it, hoping to help others within his capabilities.

Because of his earlier weapon-selling post, Su Changxing had accumulated some fame, soon receiving many responses.

Fearless One: Thank you, Lucky Child, for the advice. Initially, I dared not face zombies head-on, but now it seems there’s no need to face them directly, can totally trap them.

Glutton: Hearing the expert say so makes me relieved. I was afraid these zombies were intelligent, but fools are clearly easier to deal with than smart people.

Andersen: +1

······

This post quickly became a hot topic again. The forum seemed to have a flow mechanism—posts by those who previously posted hot topics would be more easily seen by others.

This was an invisible resource acquired by Su Changxing.

After eating and drinking his fill, Su Changxing felt intense fatigue and sleepiness, closed his phone, put it in his pocket, curled up his body, and quickly fell asleep.
