Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Miss Reporter

Organization?

At the same time, Su Changxing noticed a few figures in the distance running this way. Realizing the man was stalling for time, he stabbed him to death with a knife.

Pulling the steel saber from the man’s chest, he picked up the black-screened phone on the ground and left.

The phone dissolved into light and shadow and disappeared.

Su Changxing speculated that the organization the short-haired man belonged to must be quite large in the real world.

They actually managed to influence this Doomsday World on the first day using their real-world power and even formed an organized group. Judging by their actions, they likely weren’t an official organization.

Su Changxing quickly disappeared into the darkness of the streets. Not long after, three armed people arrived at the short-haired man’s corpse.

”Old third hei just died recently, the wound is fresh, stabbed in the heart with a knife.”

”Looks like the other guys are dead too. Weren’t A0171’s supplies already cleared out? Why are they still here?”

”Said they wanted to make some extra money?”

”Extra money? Do you know who did it?”

”Old third hei messaged that it was a young guy with a backpack and a steel saber, suspected Superpower User, speed and power beyond normal people.”

······

Shen Jinxuan sat dumbfounded by the window. Tonight, she saw a man go on a killing spree.

She thought the man would suffer misfortune under the ambush of four people, but to her surprise, he broke out of their encirclement and killed them one by one.

It was dramatic, like watching a special movie.

”Did the last person die too?”

Shen Jinxuan was curious. After a while, she saw the man running back alone along the street, as if escaping from something.

Could the story have taken another turn?

Shen Jinxuan watched in shock as the man came sprinting toward the building she was in, looking urgent.

A strange idea popped into her mind—could this man have discovered her and was planning to kill her to eliminate all witnesses?!!

But the staircase of this building is in the back, he shouldn’t be able to come up.

Shouldn’t he?

Shen Jinxuan crouched in the corner, watching as a head popped up at her window.

······

Su Changxing ran wildly all the way back near the A0171 Mysterious Shop, not forgetting to pick up the headscarf man’s phone to seize Points on the way.

[Plundered Eliminator, gained 230 Points]

Originally planning to leave immediately, he reconsidered. These people would definitely come to inspect the corpses nearby; why not observe these organization members first?

After all, know yourself and know your enemy, and you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles.

Although his appearance hadn’t been exposed and the organization didn’t know who he was, the matter would likely blow over. But given the organization’s modus operandi, a confrontation later was inevitable.

He needed to find an easy-to-observe, hidden spot. Su Changxing surveyed the surroundings and found that a room in the building opposite the Mysterious Shop offered a good vantage point for observing the entire street without being easily detected.

Having decided, Su Changxing immediately ran to the building below, where there were no front stairs, not a problem for him as he could climb, making stairs redundant.

Effortlessly, he climbed to a third-story window and vaulted inside with a single handhold.

Upon entering, Su Changxing froze; there was a person inside. In the darkness, he couldn’t make out any features, but those bright gray-brown pupils shone in the moonlight.

Locked in a sudden four-eyed gaze, Su Changxing was at a loss for what to do.

Shen Jinxuan, looking at this blood-soaked man, shook her head vigorously, immediately saying: ”I didn’t see anything, don’t kill me.”

The air fell into the deepest silence.

Is it the invisible three hundred taels? Confessing without being pressed?

Su Changxing raised an eyebrow, contemplating whether he should eliminate the risk of exposure posed by this woman.

Of course, he was just thinking about it; he wasn’t a mass murderer who’d kill someone just because they glanced at him, the four he killed left him no choice.

Now, having left the law-abiding society and returned to the most primitive state, killing wouldn’t lead to punishment, at most retaliation.

Su Changxing glanced at her position and pointed behind himself, saying: ”You sit over here, I’ll sit where you are.”

”Oh, okay.”

Seeing the man didn’t intend to act immediately, Shen Jinxuan breathed a sigh of relief. The sight of him killing with such ease had made her shudder. She stood up quickly, making room and sitting on the opposite side of the window.

Seated in Shen Jinxuan’s spot and looking outside, Su Changxing realized the vantage point was indeed excellent. Shen Jinxuan had probably seen everything, so he pensively asked: ”Are you scared of me?”

Shen Jinxuan swallowed hard, shaking her head: ”No.”

Thinking over her response, she felt something was off and nodded, considering she had just seen him kill four people, it would be odd not to be scared. Secretly, she suspected Su Changxing had once worked as a hitman or some other black profession.

Though a reporter, her experience in such matters was limited, more often dealing with corporate PR disputes.

This was completely different from her original goal of becoming a reporter. She used to enjoy stories about detectives and reporters solving cases and uncovering societal darkness together.

In sum, it was still a rather frustrating and boring life.

Seeing the woman’s eyes starting to wander, seemingly lost in her own unrelated thoughts, Su Changxing’s mouth twitched, doubting whether she had actually seen him kill.

But on second thought, he realized that only someone who’d seen the killings would react as she had earlier.

”Ahem.” Su Changxing coughed to pull her back to reality but got no response. He then said, ”Miss.”

Startled, Shen Jinxuan came back to reality. Sensitive to certain words as a reporter, she felt indignant and summoned the courage to retort: ”I’m not a Miss, I’m a reporter.”

Alright then.

Su Changxing clenched and released his fist, confirmed there was a communication gap, and took a deep breath:

”Don’t tell anyone about this, or post it online; let it end here.”

Shen Jinxuan nodded eagerly: ”I understand, my lips are sealed, as long as you don’t kill me, I’ll do anything you want, except, except······”

Su Changxing bit his lip, wanting to clarify he’s not a killing maniac but ultimately stayed silent, suddenly recalling her being a reporter and considering the earlier recordings, he asked with a dangerous look:

”Reporter lady, you didn’t record a video, did you?”

Shen Jinxuan blinked, surprised the man thought of this possibility. She indeed had recorded but hadn’t posted it yet.

In her career, it was the first time someone intercepted her recording, a stain on her professional record. Her first time gone just like that.

She figured the man would surely search her phone, so she admitted: ”Yes, recorded, but haven’t posted.”
