Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Six Enhancements

The rain flew through the air, with the sound of wet wind trailing behind. Su Changxing deftly dodged an axe and sprinted forward.

Zeng Lin watched Su Changxing sprinting ahead, a smile emerging on his face. The veins on his skin bulged, even the area around his eye bags turned blue, and his speed surged as he used the back of the axe to strike Su Changxing’s shoulder.

He still harbored hopes of forcing Su Changxing into submission. Although he was powerful in his superpower state, he couldn’t maintain it for long and couldn’t face the zombies that kept coming at night, so he couldn’t search for the Mysterious Shop alone at night.

If he could force Su Changxing into submission, he could secure more Mysterious Shops at night and gain more enhancements.

Su Changxing also sensed the enemy gaining speed from the sound of footsteps behind him. He drew a rusty hand axe from his backpack and threw it back.

The hand axe, entwined with rain threads, whirled towards Zeng Lin, who had to use his axe to deflect it, slowing down his pursuit of Su Changxing.

Watching Su Changxing move swiftly and agilely through the zombies, Zeng Lin squinted slightly, confirming that Su Changxing hadn’t used any superpowers.

”Pure physical strength, he must’ve used Speed Enhancement twice and Power Enhancement twice. Is he really that lucky?”

Zeng Lin felt uncomfortable. He had only obtained two enhancements, yet this guy, whom he deemed inferior, had gained four. Kill intent surged in his heart as he swung his axe again.

Su Changxing felt the wind rising again behind him, moving so fast that there was no room to dodge, and he had to wield his saber to counterattack.

Enormous power transmitted from the handle, and his steel saber flew high from his hand.

Zeng Lin’s face showed a smile.

Su Changxing also smiled, his speed increasing again. Unexpectedly, a new steel saber appeared in his hand, and he powerfully slashed at the exhausted Zeng Lin.

This was his chance to turn the tables and kill Zeng Lin, hiding part of his speed and deliberately abandoning his weapon to lull Zeng Lin into complacency.

But it seemed that Zeng Lin had also held back just now, quickly withdrawing his knife to defend while kicking Su Changxing to the ground, his smile widening:

”Four times Speed Enhancement? Really impressive, but your intentions seem too obvious, or perhaps I’m more cautious than you imagined.”

”But speaking of which, what strange superpower is this of yours, conjuring weapons out of thin air? Haha.”

Intense pain spread through his abdomen, and Su Changxing felt a metallic taste in his throat. Without any hesitation, he got up and ran, pulling out a Signal Stick from his pocket, lighting it, and tossing it behind him.

”Zzz~”

With a sound of fast-moving air, the Signal Stick emitted a dazzling red light, landing at Zeng Lin’s feet. In the next moment, all zombies around were startled, screams and howls erupting on the streets.

”Why does that kid have something like this?”

Zeng Lin watched Su Changxing running towards the Mysterious Shop, his face showing a peculiar smile, then also ran up to the nearby building.

Su Changxing noticed Zeng Lin not pursuing, and he sighed slightly in relief, knowing he had made the right bet. This person wasn’t willing to risk his life with him.

With short red hair, wearing a black tight combat suit, Cai Jing held a folder in one hand and a mobile phone in the other, her face serious:

”Team Leader, the attribute enhancements from the shop, according to our statistics, have diminishing effects with multiple uses of the same attribute, and each person can only use up to six enhancements in total.”

The middle-aged man lifted his sunglasses with his index finger and looked at her, saying, ”No matter how the attribute enhancements are distributed, you can only enhance six times?”

Cai Jing confirmed, ”It seems so. As far as we know, at least a dozen people have died because of it, and most were Superpower Users, with only their bodies being transported out.”

Nearby, a young man operated his phone and said, ”Looking at it this way, dividing two enhancements each into Physique, Speed, and Power, seems to have the best effect.”

The middle-aged man nodded, ”Indeed, but certain superpowers that directly enhance the body should increase the number of uses.”

The young man raised his head, saying gravely, ”Boss, there’s another issue. Some people in the bureau are currently following orders selectively, and they are likely seizing resources from the Mysterious Shop privately.”

Cai Jing replied coldly, ”It’s following instructions selectively.”

The young man turned to the woman, pursing his lips, ”Yeah yeah, I know I’m not cultured, no need to emphasize.”

The middle-aged man seemed unconcerned:

”This was expected. Those who acquire more power will reveal a dark side under such conditions·····hopefully no one goes too far.”

Su Changxing burst into the white light amidst the surging Undead Tide, entering the Silver Gray Space, where his ears fell into absolute silence.

”It still doesn’t make sense, Zeng Lin could’ve continued the pursuit, killed me, then entered the Mysterious Shop to hide, but he didn’t.”

Recalling the scene just now, he sensed something off but couldn’t figure out what went wrong, lacking some key information Zeng Lin knew but he didn’t.

”Hmm, if it’s not Speed Enhancement, it’s really not very adaptable.”

Su Changxing approached the blue screen to browse the items, his face showing a smile, rare resources were Power Enhancement.

If it were Speed Enhancement again, he would start suspecting targeted sabotage.

Exchange.

Name: Su Changxing

Power: 4.9 (far above ordinary humans)

Speed: 5.6 (far above ordinary humans)

Physique: 3.7 (above average for humans)

Perception: 1 (something ordinary humans wouldn’t have)

Spirit: 5 (far above ordinary humans)

Evaluation: You’re very lucky, if not for the potion’s ability, you might already be dead. With Power and Speed going hand in hand, your combat strength increased significantly.

Dead?

Why would he die?

Su Changxing felt dumbfounded, suspecting the evaluation was making fun of him, or perhaps multiple enhancements truly posed problems?

Previously, he felt continuous enhancement seemed bugged, as some inherently strong individuals could infinitely enhance using the shop.

”So, there indeed was a bug.”

Su Changxing rubbed his temples, needing to think over each detail numerous times, but often lacking information leading to no conclusion.

”Unfortunately, I can’t check the specific effects of the abilities; I have to rely on exploring myself.”

Other basic resources in the Mysterious Shop had already been redeemed, leaving Su Changxing with nothing to do but sit in place, wait for time to pass, and pray there are fewer zombies outside the Mysterious Shop, at least enough for a chance to escape.

In the empty room, time seemed to pass slowly, and he suddenly felt this place might not be that simple. Glancing at the metallic orb, he inexplicably asked:

”Are there any other functions here?”

An androgynous electronic synthetic voice sounded in Su Changxing’s ear.

[Do you wish to authenticate your position?]

Su Changxing blinked stupidly, realizing that just by asking, there were actually other functions, hesitated for a moment, then said: ”Authenticate.”
