Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 400: Chapter 69: The Leopards Are Back

The heavy rain came as expected.

This rain fell fiercely but also stopped quickly.

”It really is the dry season approaching, the sky is so overcast, yet it only rained this much.”

Chen Wen leaned against the shelter, gazing at the receding dark clouds.

One must admit, watching the sky in the plains really is a beautiful thing.

The sky is vast, the land is flat, extending endlessly.

Watching the clouds come and go, it has its own unique charm.

”If one were to survive in this area during the dry season, the difficulty would probably double.”

Thinking about the dry season, Chen Wen said, ”Just dealing with water would be quite a problem. In the dry season, water is more precious than gold to wild animals!”

”At that time, hippos concentrate in the remaining water areas, monopolizing the water sources, and the water sources are further polluted by the hippos. As you saw, my hippo buddy here produces a lot of waste in a day, but because the river is wide, it’s not very obvious.”

”But imagine a large group of such hippos occupying a narrow water surface; that scene would be quite disgusting.”

Saying this, Chen Wen couldn’t help shaking his head.

...

Downstream of Chen Wen.

After waking up, Feng Zhong went to the riverside to fetch water and find some food.

But as Feng Zhong arrived, he noticed some chaos in the distance among the reeds.

Feng Zhong glanced over and said, ”It seems like some animal passed through the reeds, trampling down a small patch. It looks like an alligator.”

”Speaking of which, there are many alligators around here. I saw Chen Wen’s food supply includes alligator meat. Maybe I can collaborate with Chen Wen later to catch an alligator and make the food supply more ample.”

Feng Zhong was pointing at the river from the water’s edge, paying no attention to the forest on the other side.

Two leopards were lying on a tree, motionlessly observing him.

One of these leopards, if Chen Wen were here, he would definitely recognize it.

This was the leopard that attacked him at night!

After leaving some murmurs, the leopard went to find its brother.

At that time, Chen Wen estimated, based on the leopard’s activity range, that it might take over ten days for the leopard to return.

But now it had only been a few days.

The leopard had returned with its brother.

The two leopards were cautious, not crossing the river during the day.

They merely observed the riverside before going back to their favorite environment—the forest.

Now, the leopards were contemplating how to reclaim their territory.

But their simple brains couldn’t devise a complex plan.

The leopard, based on its instinctive habits, thought it better to attack at night.

...

As evening approached.

Chen Wen returned to the place of the stew-roast and dug out the stewed impala.

With the soil above uncovered, waves of meat aroma seemed to burst out uncontrollably.

Having missed dinner, Chen Wen couldn’t help but swallow a mouthful at the scent.

It really smelled good!

He stripped away the top layer of leaves, revealing the body of the impala, black like coal.

Did he fail?

Seeing the impala meat so black, Chen Wen felt a bit nervous for a moment.

He quickly reached out and lifted the warm impala meat.

With a strong tug.

The black outer skin tore apart, revealing the oily, tender white impala meat inside.

”Succeeded, although this roast is a bit overdone, everything inside is fine except for the outer layer!”

Chen Wen breathed a sigh of relief, reflecting: ”It seems next time I need to make the fire smaller. Last time when roasting the Nile crocodile, it was roasted with the skin which is why it didn’t burn. With this meat, though, it was problematic.”

After summarizing the experience, Chen Wen divided the cooked meat into two batches to take back to the shelter.

Dinner must be freshly roasted impala meat.

The taste was average, not as delicious as he had imagined.

This is partly due to the lack of seasoning.

However, Chen Wen acquired a rather good trait.

[Woodland Elf (Purple): Luck increases when in forested areas, like woods and forests]

[Remark: Good fortune will always favor us—Twisting horn impala]

Luck.

This thing is mysterious but crucial in wilderness survival.

Those with good luck might find a complete animal carcass at the start and soar from the get-go.

Unlucky ones might be surrounded by wild beasts at the start and die on the spot.

In any case, although limited to specific terrains, this trait truly deserves a purple rating.

Having chosen the right trait, Chen Wen sat for a while, staring at the campfire and sky.

Then he went to sleep.

...

Under the night sky.

Feng Zhong was also asleep.

But he didn’t know that the two leopards, filled with malice, had already crossed the river from the narrow part of the reed bed and arrived on the shore here.

Upon arriving, they easily found the tree where they habitually rested.

The leopard previously chased off by Chen Wen nimbly jumped up.

The brother leopard, Leopard the Second, climbed the tree from the other side, easily reaching a higher position.

The two leopards there had a perfect view of Chen Wen’s shelter.

The leopard sniffed the air and felt the scent seemed to have faded.

It was somewhat angry.

It had only gone to find its brother, and that detestable two-legged creature actually ate up the meat that soon belonged to it!

Truly infuriating!

The leopard was agitated, wanting to attack the two-legged creature with its brother right now.

But Leopard the Second lightly called out to calm its big brother down.

The two leopards, twins, the first thing they saw when they opened their eyes was each other.

They learned, hunted, and grew together.

They understood each other perfectly.

Though Leopard the Second’s hunting skills weren’t as sharp as the elder, its mind was slightly sharper.

It gracefully jumped down from the tree, calling out.

The leopard immediately followed and jumped down.

The two leopards leisurely walked towards Chen Wen’s shelter, intending to assess the situation.

...

Over at the shelter.

Feng Zhong followed his tactics without altering Chen Wen’s layout.

He simply took down the wood stacked high, creating more resting space.

Having not rested well for a long time, Feng Zhong relaxed significantly after entering the safe area.

Not only did he sleep through the night, but he also snored soundly without any vigilance today.

The snoring rose and fell, leaving the two leopards under the tree puzzled.

Had the creature above discovered them?

Was it growling in warning?

Or was it oblivious?

Leopard the Second hesitated, not daring to climb up the tree.

But the elder quickly ran out of patience.

Once again extending its claws, intending to jump up the tree.

But the chevaux-de-frise remained, blocking the leopard’s path up.

After several attempts, the elder concluded it couldn’t get up.

Gently tapping the chevaux-de-frise with its paw, it seemed to signal to its brother that this obstacle hindered its path to revenge.

Leopard the Second tilted its head, watching for a while, and even sniffed the chevaux-de-frise.

After confirming it posed no threat, it even extended its tongue, licking it.

Coincidentally, it licked the nightshade paste Chen Wen had applied.

Leopard the Second drew back its tongue, curiously gazing at the wooden chevaux-de-frise.

It didn’t know what this thing was, but it realized it was harmless.

It directly extended its mouth and bit the corner of the chevaux-de-frise.

With brute force, it pulled.

The stacked chevaux-de-frise clashed, creating a noise.

”What was that noise!”

Startled by the sound, Feng Zhong finally woke up.

Grabbing his defensive weapon, he activated the flashlight mode of the drone, peering out from the shelter.

The next second.

Feng Zhong was dumbfounded.

What was going on?

Why were there two leopards down there?

How had they moved the chevaux-de-frise aside?

Mind still reeling, Feng Zhong saw one of the leopards had already passed through the removed chevaux-de-frise and started climbing up.

Sweat burst out from all over Feng Zhong’s body.

While shouting loudly, he raised the wooden spears Chen Wen had left in the shelter.
