Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 376: Chapter 45: Somniloquy

The leopard retreated far away.

Consider it a conclusion to the matter.

Chen Wen thought silently.

Leopards are different from grizzly and brown bears; they don’t seem to hold grudges.

Will it not come back?

But Chen Wen overlooked one problem.

Leopards may not hold grudges, but their territorial consciousness is strong.

And Chen Wen was currently occupying the leopard’s territory.

To the leopard, this is equivalent to its territory being occupied by an unfamiliar species.

The leopard could not simply leave like that.

Chen Wen, who was occupying the leopard’s nest, continued to sleep.

The hippo’s absence was also within his expectation.

At night, it goes out to eat heartily, so it isn’t realistic to expect it to stay permanently at the shelter.

Therefore, Chen Wen did not blame the hippo.

Driving the leopard away was enough anyway.

But at this moment, a floating message suddenly appeared before Chen Wen’s eyes.

[Damn! I will go find my brother to drive away this damn human and reclaim my territory!]

Chen Wen was taken aback, what on earth?

But a moment later, he slapped his forehead.

Damn!

[Whisper]!

Ever since the octopus, this ability seemed to have disappeared, as it hadn’t appeared again.

The later [Communication] even replaced it, becoming its superior substitution.

Therefore, Chen Wen gradually forgot he still had an ability named [Whisper].

[Whisper: A Druid has a pure heart of nature, with a small probability of hearing some animals’ psychic voices and understanding their meaning]

The probability of this ability was truly very small, and Chen Wen felt it was judged twice.

Once with some animals.

And once with psychic voices.

Similar to communication, you must first find animals that can, with a small probability, emit psychic voices, to have a small probability of hearing them.

This small probability, truly, is small!

And so, after acquiring [Communication], Chen Wen gradually forgot about this ability.

Occasionally seeing it, he would inwardly scoff about what on earth it could be useful for, then cast it aside in his mind.

But tonight was different.

Whisper has done a great job!

Staring at the last message left by the leopard, Chen Wen sank into thought.

It seems this creature is dissatisfied with me.

Moreover, it mentioned reclaiming territory...

Good heavens!

Chen Wen slapped his head: This is the leopard’s territory!

This creature’s territorial consciousness may not be as crazy as the hippo’s, but it’s not weak either.

And I occupied this place while the leopard was inspecting other territories, even altering it to fit my needs.

More extraordinarily, I even drove the leopard away upon its return.

My actions were even more outrageous than being caught with a wife in flagrante!

After all, animals’ moral needs fall far short of their survival needs.

Moreover, this place is most likely the core territory, or the hideout, of this leopard.

Rich in food resources, well-hidden, and abundant in water resources.

As a lair, it’s definitely suitable.

So, it seems I’ve unknowingly offended a leopard, or even two.

Realizing this, Chen Wen felt a bit helpless.

The message revealed by [Whisper] contained just too much information.

Thanks to Whisper!

Chen Wen thought.

As for the leopard’s brother, he wasn’t too worried.

You have a brother, but don’t I too?

That ”big” brother of mine may find it hard to kill a leopard, but pressing a pair of brothers is quite easy.

Having figured it out, Chen Wen went back to sleep.

Generally speaking, even blood brothers, leopards will maintain a certain territorial distance.

Therefore, for this leopard to make a round trip.

Chen Wen conservatively estimated it would take several days, perhaps even ten days or so.

No rush.

What if I manage to get an African elephant by then, and they come back just to serve themselves on a plate!

...

The next day.

Chen Wen got up early to start a new day of survival.

The first task was to retrieve the two spears used to drive away the leopard last night.

The spears were slightly damaged.

Still usable.

Next was checking the cheval de frise.

The cheval de frise beneath the treehouse seemed to have been tampered with, but the exterior was intact.

Finally, Chen Wen made another round in the woods.

He identified the leopard’s old lair by the claw marks on the trees—among the largest and sturdiest trees in the forest.

Leopards are active at night and rest during the day.

They like to perch on trees or in rock caves to sleep and cool off during the day.

Therefore, Chen Wen referred to the place where the leopard sleeps as its lair.

After inspecting the leopard’s nest, Chen Wen did not find anything useful.

However, he discovered that the place with the most leopard marks also conveniently had a view of his shelter’s wall.

This wall happened to be where Chen Wen was drying his jerky.

It seems the leopard was attracted by the smell of meat and was planning to attack me.

Chen Wen jumped down from the tree, no longer pondering about the leopard.

This morning, the camp’s routine work needed to be done—gathering firewood and fetching water.

Additionally, Chen Wen considered diversifying his food sources.

Just eating Nile crocodile meat was becoming a bit tiresome.

He needed to collect some more water lilies.

And take a look at what else could be edible in the Kuanduo River.

...

Chen Wen started his work.

Meanwhile, other contestants all busied themselves as well.

But today, Feng Zhong seemed a bit unusual.

Feng Zhong was not working but was instead organizing his survival gear and some of the food he had stored up these days.

Not much.

But saving a bit, he could sustain two to three days of relatively high consumption.

”I plan to meet up with my teammate.”

After packing up, Feng Zhong said, ”My teammate, Chen Wen, eliminated Brad a few days ago; he should be doing quite well currently. Moreover, our previous plan was for me to join him. Now that I have the ability to travel far, it is time to find him.”

”I believe that through cooperation, we can certainly collect more food and start planning to eliminate other contestants.”

After saying this, Feng Zhong slung his belongings over his shoulder and left the hyena den he had been staying in for so long.

He took a deep breath of the air outside the cave and set out on his journey.

Seeing Feng Zhong’s actions, though somewhat doubtful about the motives of this somewhat controversial Vice Chairman, Lin Jiawei saw it as a good thing.

At the very least, with two people teaming up, Chen Wen no longer needed to do the basic camp work.

Instead, he could focus solely on hunting and taming animals.

The topic’s relevance and discussion engagement would be higher.

...

Back to Chen Wen.

After finishing with the basic tasks, he found the napping hippo.

The hippo was glad to see Chen Wen coming to find it.

And upon hearing Chen Wen’s idea, the hippo was even happier.

What could be more interesting than taking your friend out for a spin in your home?

The hippo, too, had a bit of selfishness.

Before coming here and meeting Chen Wen, it was the leader of a hippo herd.

But as it aged, it was driven away by younger, stronger hippos, becoming a solitary rogue hippo.

This was something it could not tolerate.

It could accept leaving the herd voluntarily and surviving together with its new friend Chen Wen.

But it could not tolerate being driven out because of insufficient combat power.

Therefore, it wanted to take Chen Wen to visit its former herd.

If there was an opportunity, it wanted to team up with Chen Wen to beat up the young hippo that had driven it away.

Thus, the hippo snorted, signaling Chen Wen to ride on its broad back.

After carefully climbing on, Hippo Rider Chen Wen was on the move!

...

With Chen Wen on its back, the hippo activated hippo-boss mode.

Seeing Nile crocodiles soaking in the water along the way, it charged at them without hesitation.

When the Nile crocodiles saw the hippo approaching from afar, they turned and fled.

Goodness, so that’s the ecological status of a hippo?

Nevertheless, he didn’t forget his goal and patted the hippo after remembering.

Suddenly noticing some fish swimming in the river.

Chen Wen raised his hand and looked.

Ever since catching some Egyptian catfish that time, he hadn’t gone fishing again.

And although the Kuanduo River wasn’t known for its thriving fisheries, it was still worth checking for any other edible things.
