Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 354: Chapter 25: [Thermoconformity]

Chen Wen hadn’t tasted Nile crocodile meat yet.

But he had already sampled saltwater crocodile meat, and it was delicious.

Presumably, the taste of its relative, the Nile crocodile, wouldn’t be any less impressive.

Once cooked, the Nile crocodile’s armor became quite fragile.

Chen Wen easily sliced it open with a spear.

Underneath the scales, the white tender meat of the Nile crocodile caught Chen Wen’s eye.

This thing, the fat content should be quite high!

Judging from the smell and the condition of the meat, Chen Wen concluded.

Shouldn’t taste bad!

Sprinkle some of Ah San’s special seasoning and take a gentle bite.

The tender meat slid instantly into Chen Wen’s mouth.

Chewing instinctively.

The juices burst forth!

The aroma of the spices mixed with the meaty flavor, with a slight hint of leafy fragrance.

It played a wonderful symphony in Chen Wen’s mouth.

Chen Wen couldn’t help but squint his eyes, as saliva flowed abundantly.

Delicious!

So very delicious!

He let out a breath, looking at the crocodile leg: ”A delicacy of the world! Fragrant!”

He said, taking another big bite.

Fragrant!

...

Seeing Chen Wen feast heartily, many of the competitors’ assistants watched with envy while asking the guide about the taste of Nile crocodile.

”I’ve only tasted young crocodiles, their meat is very tender, just like... tofu, slippery, and without any strange taste. With some spices, it’s really delicious!”

The guide was generous in sharing the flavors he had experienced.

”In our tribe, we don’t usually get Nile crocodile. After all, catching crocodiles is quite dangerous, so I haven’t had much crocodile meat growing up.”

He looked at Chen Wen with some envy.

This competitor has a whole adult Nile crocodile!

If rationed, it could last until the end of the survival challenge!

But judging by Chen Wen’s demeanor, he’s definitely not going to ration it.

...

After this feast, Chen Wen didn’t say much.

Burying his head in eating was the main theme of this banquet.

Large bites of Nile crocodile meat would become overwhelming.

At this time, pairing it with lotus root helped.

The lotus root, as refreshing as bean sprouts, perfectly balanced the richness of the meat.

Making Chen Wen’s mouth overflow with savory juices.

Besides the meat, there were also advantages to consider.

Chen Wen eagerly awaited the advantages from the Nile crocodile.

[Targeting natural creature—the Nile crocodile, looting in progress!]

[Looting in progress... Looting completed!]

[Please choose one of the following three advantages]

[Rage (Purple): You become more easily angered, and upon anger, rationality declines, and thinking ability diminishes]

[Note: I’ll kill you! I’ll kill you! — Nile crocodile]

[Underwater Ambush (Purple): You excel at ambushing prey underwater. When underwater, your oxygen consumption rate slows down, and you are less detectable by prey. Upon surfacing, there is a high chance the prey will be stunned, trembling, or slowed due to fright.]

[Note: I never fail! — Nile crocodile]

[Temperature Regulation (Gold): You can now actively adjust your body temperature according to the surrounding environment. Your body will adapt to temperature changes, choosing a low body temperature state weakens metabolism and limits life activities, but greatly reduces energy consumption, allowing pseudo-hibernation; choosing a high body temperature state enhances metabolism, significantly boosts physical potential, and greatly enhances activity ability, though energy consumption increases. ps: Pseudo-hibernation is akin to entering a hibernation-like state, where energy consumption is greatly reduced, but the brain can still maintain a certain level of thought and simple activity]

[Note: The secret to our survival in harsh environments is temperature regulation — Nile crocodile]

[Please make your choice within one minute or forfeit! If time expires, the first advantage will be auto-selected!]

To be fair, these advantages are a bit tricky to choose from.

[Underwater Ambush] undoubtedly enhances this survival experience, making the ambush system more complete.

At the same time, this advantage is highly applicable, usable wherever there is water.

It’s quite a powerful advantage.

But Chen Wen also wanted the [Temperature Regulation] advantage.

If [Temperature Regulation] was a passive body temperature selection, Chen Wen wouldn’t have glanced at it.

Too limiting.

But this time it’s an active choice between two states.

A high-temperature state is like injecting adrenaline.

Possibly even more exaggerated.

The low-temperature state directly pseudo-hibernates.

In extremely cold regions, as long as you stockpile enough food and build a shelter in the early stages.

Once it gets cold, just huddle in the shelter.

Sleep it off, and who’s going to out-sleep you?

Even bears aren’t this intense!

Being able to perform simple activities and think while consuming minimal energy.

Chen Wen thought for a moment.

This time the wilderness solo is at Great Slave Lake, an extremely cold place.

By then, just follow this rhythm.

In the late survival stage, just lie in the shelter.

Invincible!

Who can outlast a hibernating human?

Choosing this advantage, as long as the shelter and food are sufficient.

The championship is almost a sure bet.

With only twenty seconds left, Chen Wen hesitated no longer.

Decisively choosing [Temperature Regulation].

Even though [Underwater Ambush] is a system advantage and is widely applicable.

But compared to directly becoming a cold-blooded animal with [Temperature Regulation].

It’s slightly lacking.

After choosing the advantage, Chen Wen directly activated the high body temperature state.

He just felt a heat on his forehead, and his body suddenly felt discomfort.

But soon the forehead returned to coolness, and the body gradually returned to normal.

Then, Chen Wen clearly felt the difference.

Firstly, the brain.

With metabolic capability enhanced, the brain received more nutrients and oxygen.

Chen Wen could distinctly feel himself becoming more alert and focused.

The mental state also became very positive.

Meanwhile, Chen Wen felt his breathing ability had increased.

Breathing became faster, allowing more oxygen into the lungs.

Stamina and endurance should see a great increase, right?

Furthermore, his speed, reflexes, and strength should all enhance.

Chen Wen couldn’t help thinking.

The enhancements felt so far are this much, and more would require further study and exploration.

But the high-temperature state also has certain drawbacks.

One is being more prone to hunger, and the other is lagging heat dissipation.

With high-temperature mode on, and sitting by the campfire.

Chen Wen had started to sweat.

At normal room temperature, around 26°C or below, heat dissipation should keep up.

But above 26°C, it fails.

Switching off the high body temperature state, Chen Wen wiped the sweat off his brow.

He tested the low-temperature state once more.

As Chen Wen shivered, his core body temperature began to drop.

Usually, this condition is quite deadly because it symbolizes fatal hypothermia.

But [Temperature Regulation] protected Chen Wen from the effects of hypothermia.

As body temperature dropped, Chen Wen clearly felt his thoughts become sluggish.

And a drowsiness started to surface in his mind.

Movements also became much slower.

What is this pseudo-hibernation all about?

Let’s test it!

Chen Wen continued cooling and soon entered the pseudo-hibernation state.

Under this state, Chen Wen felt his cognitive ability was severely suppressed.

The brain almost turned into a single-threaded processor.

Physical actions also slowed greatly, with simple activities limited to eating, drinking, and excretion.

The last one was Chen Wen’s guess, while the first two were based on experimentation.

Exiting the low-temperature state.

Chen Wen returned to normal.

This advantage is really strong!

It’s most likely a top-tier advantage worth a hundred points!

Chen Wen couldn’t help thinking.

However, using this advantage is genuinely uncomfortable, whether in low or high body temperature state, the moment of change is particularly distressing.
