Wilderness Survival with Druid System

Chapter 387: Chapter 56: Poison Testing

Gotcha!

Fooled!

It’s all over!

This is the thought process of Yoshikawa Feng’s assistant.

Yoshikawa Feng was fooled.

Under Chen Wen’s elaborate disguise, Yoshikawa Feng firmly believed that it was just because his rope was too thin that the antelope escaped.

He sighed and said, ”It seems this is Amaterasu’s test for me. Next, I need to weave a thicker rope more earnestly, so I can win back Amaterasu’s favor and capture the antelope!”

After speaking, Yoshikawa Feng collected the broken rope.

Without looking back, he returned to the shelter to continue weaving his ropes.

But he didn’t know, it wasn’t Amaterasu or any test keeping him from catching the antelope.

It was Chen Wen’s trickery.

Yoshikawa Feng’s assistant couldn’t bear to watch anymore and chose to go outside for some air.

...

Unaware of what was happening outside, Chen Wen was handling cassava.

Handling cassava is quite simple.

Peel, rinse, put it in a pot, and soak in water.

After soaking long enough, drain the water, rinse again, and boil until cooked.

Then it’s ready to eat.

However, different kinds of cassava have different levels of toxicity.

Some cassavas, particularly those from their place of origin, are quite toxic.

Even after such processing, they still retain strong toxicity.

But as a staple food, the cassava introduced to Africa is clearly not among them.

After processing the cassava, Chen Wen began the soaking process.

During this waiting period, Chen Wen took out the black sapote he picked yesterday.

”This thing... I’m not sure about its toxicity right now, so I plan to test it.”

Chen Wen said.

Of course, the experiment isn’t conducted on himself or the hippo.

Chen Wen poured the black sapote into the empty jar brought by Brad.

He found a stick and mashed these berries with force, getting a jar of black-purple pulp.

After properly placing the mashed fruit stick, Chen Wen looked for a test subject.

Soon, Chen Wen’s attention shifted to the waterfowl wandering by the water.

”These water birds eat meat. I plan to soak a piece of crocodile meat in the pulp, luring them to eat it, and observe their reaction.”

Chen Wen paused and continued, ”If they die on the spot, I plan to use these things as a defensive tool, preferably smearing them on the tips of cheval traps, so even if a leopard returns, these cheval traps would make it behave, I mean, act like a leopard.”

”If they don’t die on the spot but instead show adverse reactions, it might still be used for smearing cheval traps, but because its toxicity isn’t strong, it could be used to hunt some larger animals, like buffalo.”

”If there’s no abnormal reaction at all, lively and active, I plan to try it myself to sense its specific effects.”

Chen Wen’s words made Abel immediately alert.

This is courting death!

For sure!

Belladonna has poison, but it takes a lot of berries to reach a lethal dose.

Its toxins are actually concentrated in the leaves and roots.

The berries of belladonna were once used by Italian women as beauty products.

Back then, women used belladonna juice to dilate their pupils, enhancing charm.

Because at that time, dilated pupils were considered a symbol of sensuality.

Historically, this thing was also used as a medicine.

Because it could relieve pain, spasm, and anesthesia, but due to its strong toxicity, it was gradually replaced.

To be honest, besides being non-addictive, belladonna is a bit like those drugs like marijuana.

But those drugs make you addicted, while belladonna sends you on your way!

Therefore, in Abel’s eyes, Chen Wen wanting to taste belladonna is courting death.

But he hesitated for a moment and didn’t remind Chen Wen.

After all, he hasn’t eaten it yet, and detoxifying belladonna is relatively simple.

Abel just asked the medical team to prepare the detoxification kits.

...

Meanwhile on Chen Wen’s side.

He began testing the toxicity.

After soaking a piece of sticky crocodile meat with a stick in the pulp,

Chen Wen poked the crocodile meat to pieces and threw it to the shore.

The hippo in the water seemed to notice something and glanced this way.

But since Chen Wen didn’t call it, it continued lounging in the water, napping.

Chen Wen sat on the far-off ground, observing the birds’ behavior.

Soon, one big-looking bird noticed the crocodile meat.

This bird eats bugs, but it would eat meat if available.

The bird hopped over to the crocodile meat, checking its surroundings.

Seeing no danger, it approached again.

As it neared the crocodile meat, the bird suddenly jumped back, as if preparing to fly away.

But no danger appeared, and the bird stopped its movement.

”Wow, this bird would be a great mid player, maxed anti-gank ability.”

Chen Wen said with a laugh.

He watched as the bird pecked at the crocodile meat covered in pulp, slowly eating it.

”Did it eat about as much pulp as one berry?”

Chen Wen speculated uncertainly.

But as the pulp digested, the bird didn’t show any discomfort.

Could the pulp possibly be non-toxic?

Chen Wen doubted his judgment.

Yet there were clearly footprints of herbivores around that pulp at the time, and the pulp showed no signs of being eaten!

Could it be...

Just as Chen Wen was caught in his wild thoughts, the drug took effect!

The bird that was previously hopping around, looking for food, suddenly acted as if possessed, becoming extremely active and even strange.

It cried out frequently and sharply, causing ear discomfort.

Chen Wen couldn’t help but hiss and said, ”Looks like it makes animals more agitated and lively, a neurotoxin?”

While Chen Wen pondered over this, the bird slowly walked to the water’s edge and began drinking.

After drinking for a long time, it flapped its wings and flew off as if unaffected.

”The toxicity to birds doesn’t seem very strong.”

Chen Wen stood up and analyzed, ”After poisoning, it became extremely active and agitated but lost its ability to fly. I noticed the bird failed to lift off several times, as if its coordination was impaired.”

”However, the condition appeared quickly and dissipated quickly, having little overall impact on the bird, somewhat resembling a stimulant.”

Deep down, Chen Wen wanted to taste it himself.

After all, with [Purification] as a backup and the toxicity seeming not too strong for now.

If just a fingertip’s worth is tasted, it should be safe and can’t be poisonous enough to kill.

For the sake of gaining an entry, it’s worth a try.

Chen Wen thought, taking up the pulp.

He prepared himself in advance, walked to the riverbank, and called over the hippo.

The hippo rushed over with water splashing, coming to Chen Wen.

It curiously looked at Chen Wen and the jar in his hand: ”Chen Wen, what are you holding? It smells tasty.”

Tasty?

Chen Wen said, ”This is not tasty. It’s poisonous, though not very toxic. But if not controlled intake, it could still cause a problem.”

Upon hearing this, the hippo seemed unconcerned, ”Poison? What’s that? We hippos never care about such things when eating.”

True.

Chen Wen thought for a moment and said, ”But you can’t eat it. I actually asked you here to keep a watch around and keep crocodiles away.”

”Rest assured.”

Upon hearing Chen Wen’s request, the hippo immediately said, ”I won’t let any crocodile get close to you!”

Chen Wen trusted the hippo very much.

He directly took off his shirt and jumped into the river.

[Purification] started working as soon as Chen Wen entered the water.

But Chen Wen couldn’t feel the effect of [Purification] in time.

He used his pinky to dab a bit of pulp and observed it for a while: ”This thing... what’s its flavor? Let me taste it!”

Finished saying, Chen Wen ate the pulp in one go.
